Pipe insulation and zip ties are a dream for protecting a frame in a soft bike bag with added bonus that they weigh next to nothing. £6 was enough to cover whole bike, think it was 18mm inner 22mm outer. Definitely not going to get dings or scratches, a cheap but effective hack.
Yep! I used pipe insulation too when I was travelling to the Canaries. No scratches and no dents or whatsoever. I paid 8€ and I am still using the pipes! Love them.
ben vinall yup. PVC pipe that’s the same size as the hubs and just put the axle/through bolt in to hold it in place and the risk of airport personnel crushing the bike from the side goes down significantly
Some really great tips. Very resourceful, heres what I think about some things you adviced. 4:50 Me and my bike sometimes take baths together and that works to keep the bathroom clean. + Saves water. 5:13 Wrapping up is to dry is fine but not to keep it for long else it stinks. 6:17 Interesting, I would very much prefer keeping it with me strapped to my backpack. Keeping it in luggage bag gives me anxiety, no idea how they would handle my bag, how many times it got slammed. Even if covered with clothes it could get moved around. After all a helmet on impact loses its protective nature so if it suffers some non visual damage while in transit and it on my head afterwards not sure how thats gonna fair if I crash.
Always fun trying to get under 23 or 25kg, take everything you can on carry on bag, only leave essentials in bike bag or you get stung with over weight fees. Only really need, multi tool, pedal tool, pump, couple tubes besides things you'd normally have.
Best and easiest thing to do for the bars is to just get a couple of spare head spacers in place of your stem that you only use for travel that way you still have pressure on everything and it’s a lot easier to put the bars back on
HI! @globalmountainbikenetwork, Im traveling to hawaii soon but im not bringing my bike (most likely renting one) and i was wondering what to bring/put in my travel bag or checking?
Booking a rental ahead of time is a great idea. I've done that but still brought my own pedals and saddle just in case the rental place doesn't have the right ones. Renting by the week is usually a great deal, better than an $800 DB bike bag and $150 airline fee each way.
_*Hi guys i have a retro DH bike (marin b-17 f.r.s 1998) and a modern XC hardtail (Cube analog 2014) i can keep one only which one do u recommend guys thanks!*_🙂
Use what you can afford. As Neil said if you are using a soft bag or a box we suggest removing the derailleur and disk rotors and always take a spare hanger. 👍
Are you traveling this year with your bike? Do you have any travel tips? Let us know!

It really works great!
You can buy an outlet socket adapter for cheap and take the bulb out of the lights next to your hotel bed to have an outlet close.
Thanks for making this video AFTER I just traveled to Alaska with my bikes
Nice tips Neil noted for if i travel with my bike .

I remove the bars by removing the stem front plate. Then rotate the stem around so it sit over the top tube.
Amazing video !
Like always
You haven't even watched it
@@Fasttrax2 but i mean its from GMBN
@@mani_2850 oh 😂 k then

An alternative to P20 is calypso, better value and less greasy and I think works better.
Good info,
I like to rent bikes it tends to be cheaper and you get fresh gear and no baggage hassle
cool
That twisted strap at the seatpost drives me crazy
What bike bag is this? looks interesting!
This is from douchebags.com 👍
Some airlines charge quite a lot for extra baggage, whats your top tips?
HI! @globalmountainbikenetwork, Im traveling to hawaii soon but im not bringing my bike (most likely renting one) and i was wondering what to bring/put in my travel bag or checking?
I take a usb hub for a computer. It can charge lots of devices at once.
Too much trouble for me. I'll just rent one when I'm there.
Not all places have rentals, and this can get expensive, and not all types of bikes can be rented. But you are right - rental is much less worries.
rentals cost a fortune for low to mid spec bike

This is so funny 😂
Global Mountain Bike Network hahah sorry commented before watching the whole video
Is it cheaper to fly with your bike on a car? If so, I will pack myself in the car along with a few other people.

Could you maybe do a video with a checklist of what to take for example to the alps and Bike checklist like servicing wise?
