Definitely makeup is best when it's fun. It's great to have comfort with how you look without it, especially because it's not always fun to wear it either.
Ppl who try to invalidate trans women have never once in their lives tried to truly listen to trans people bc i have never related more to what youre saying even as a cis woman. @yote333 the best speech ive heard against the transphobic laws in the us is by Rep. Pamela Stevensons. She said, "First, you hated Black people, then you hated Jews, now you're hating everybody. So the question is, when the only people left are you, will you hate yourself?" She truly encapsulated the root of the trans genocide happening now which is extreme hatred for anyone who isn't them and that stems from their inability to be content with who they are. They can't love themselves for who they are so they overcompensate by asserting power over others to make them feel like they're above everyone else.
I am so glad you came to the conclusion that you can go without make up. I watch a few content creators who are trans and it just seems like they try so hard to be “woman enough” when that’s not what being a woman is. Jazz Jennings said in a written interview that she felt embarrassed to wear plain shorts and a T-shirt and I just thought that was so ridiculous because I can wear a plain shorts and T-shirt and I still feel like a woman.
Trans people are very frequently misgendered and most of the time we had to grow up without the same amount of gender affirmation than cis people, so i think that's why so many trans people relly a lot on clothes and makeup to feel affirmed in their gender because there is nowhere else where they can feel like that. This can change with time and the construction of an affirming social support, but i can definitly imagine how content creators being flood with transphibia, might relly more on those things to affirm themselves.
i feel like it's also important to see why though. even cis women struggle with expessing femininity "correctly", being trans brings a hole other dimension into it. some people think being hyperfem is leaning into stereotypes, others will say someone's fake because they aren't fem enough, then passing is a whole thing and makeup can help with it a lot, just like clothing, since that's what many people will go off of if they aren't sure. many trans women also simply want to do the things they felt like they couldn't before (wear dresses, wear makeup etc.) and that's totally understandable too. so i'd never judge any trans person (or anyone, honestly) for whatever their way of dealing with a world with strict gender norms and rules is.
i'm gonna do my best to explain something. if it's long, i promise you i tried to make it shorter - living and existing while trans is just complicated. here's the thing - if you're trans, you deal w/ a lot of mild to moderate day to day incidents that become very mundane to you when you exist in public spaces in-person. sometimes you might have much, much worse, but hopefully, those times are rare. people stare at us. they scrutinize us. they say cruel things. we get on the bus. we get off the bus. we go to work. we go to school. we go home. just gotta keep on keepin on, right? can't control other ppl's actions, just how you react, so you either speak up, stay quiet out of terror, and then you move on. and when it's real, physical people in front of you, you can _always go back home/back to safety._ even when you're in hell, if you're lucky, you can have a place where that doesn't happen. they're right in front of you when they hurt you. you can learn what they look like. you can learn who to run away from. now, imagine it's millions, maybe even close to billions of comments, 24/7/365 - constantly picking at every tiny little bit of your appearance and mannerisms, to try to prove you're "not a real xyz." calling you ugly. you can't drown out that many voices. you can't. your phone dings every few minutes with a new comment misgendering you, another pops up, it's a detailed, graphic description of what the comment's author would do to you if they had geographical isolation, no one to stop them, weapons, and the time to spare. another comment pops up. and another. and another. depending on how The Onslaught™ is feeling on that day, you might even so much as risk being doxxed or swatted simply for posting a 60 second video as mundane as like, a GRWM clip, or a dance trend clip where you're wearing pride stuff, or livestreaming your makeup or videogames. if you're an online creator, maybe you filter your comments. now none of your followers have to deal with the endless regurgitated v!olence - but you still do, because sometimes, you'll have to manually filter your own comments when you manage your social media, and that means... even when bigots aren't literally blowing up your phone with notifs, you still do not get to feel safe from them because you still have to reead them. and if you've got a big platform... oh, that's a lot of horrible comments, particularly if they're bad enough for the filter to catch them. if you're trans on the internet, particularly as a video content creator... you can't just go home. not if you make a living off it, or you rely on it to do things like activism or community outreach. you literally cannot escape it. your only option for slight relief is trying to make yourself bulletproof in style and rhetoric, so that you're always prepared to protect yourself from the onslaught of hate fueled internet word vomit being thrown at you 24/7. it doesn't fix the problem. it just makes you hate yourself less while you try to survive - and helps you not get hurt or worse. and someone like jazz jennings has been in this hell of scrutiny since _childhood._ she's been going on tv since she was _six years old_ speaking up about what it's like to grow up, and exist as trans people in this world. she's been watching bigots be willing to scream this BS to her face since she was _that young._ death threats sent to her and her parents. so much horrible cruelty for one person - and she was the most well-known by bigots when she was so little - because that's when she started fighting this! jennings isn't even her actual family's last name because of how dangerous it is to exist as a transgender public figure. jazz's family is jewish, and for safety reasons, they've all used a pseudonym in place of their real surname in public since day 1- because unfortunately, transphobia and antisemitism get along like a house on fire. i truly cannot emphasize enough - jazz jennings, of all people, has earned that pass for being afraid of wearing shorts on tv. she's been in the public eye surrounded by bigots for so long that it really does make sense to at minimum be extra dysphoric about something like that - if not have it be a safety concern. her story is just one example of so many like it. i'd probably experiment with my style re: gender presentation more than once every few months for a single day before never doing it again, rinse and repeat, if i didn't remember exactly what happens every time i do. i would love to dress differently or bend the lines a little. genuinely. as a trans adult, i am living proof a lifetime of wearing dresses and skirts doesn't magically make you a woman. so it's not like wearing one will now - but that's not the real problem, see?
for me (enby) iit's more about the hair, i tend to feel overdone in makeup and even though i waited for it to be a fashionable thing for men to do, i keep my hair long because it makes me feel pretty and, even though i sometimes regret not being able to wear more androgynous or masculine short styles (i have a sometimes a very preppy style that is heavily based in traditional gender ideas) i just wouldn't feel like myself without my hair

I’m a cis girl but I’ve never worn makeup because I didn’t have a mom growing up, and I also went through a ‘not like other girls’ phase. I like the idea of makeup but am scared about wearing it since I break out easily and what if I like myself more with makeup and develop more self confidence issues, or what if it just looks bad. Honestly I’ve never really felt all too pretty except a couple of times when U was wearing a dress/outfit I liked or when I got a cool haircut where I got one side of my head shaved. Still have it and LOVE it btw, I’ve had it the same way for a while now and can’t imagine going back. It’s one of the few things I like about my appearance. So maybe makeup would boost my confidence, or it would destroy it.

this might seem weird but I'm like, constantly getting increasingly surprised finding out trans people are trans, like I was just so convinced I didn't even realize they weren't originally the gender they present as. Gender transition is insane and so cool.
I've never used makeup, and idk if I ever will, but it's always fun hearing about other people's relationships with it and just seeing how it all works

I'm non-binary and I can totally see it, I can't stand the feeling of makeup (I'm also autistic) but I wish I could, eyeliner is so cool lookin
you pass so well your makeup looks amazing but even your bare face is so angelic
you look so pretty!!!
Omg I didn't know you're trans it's amazing!!
I so genuinely wish that everyone would see makeup as something fun and extra and everyone can do it or not do it with out biased reactions
I'm a transmasc goth, and I love putting on dramatic trad makeup but it doesn't make me any less trans
i would love a video where you show all the products you use because your base is amazing!
You know what’s really weird is that transphobic people say it doesn’t make you a woman yet bash males for doing it like make that make sense
dude how have I been watching you this long and not kknow you were trans! Your makeup looks are straight fire every freaking time. I also love all your videos on your local goth scene. Back when I lived in cali the clubs were super niche, its nice to see the growing interest in the music and aesthetic.
this might seem weird but I'm like, constantly getting increasingly surprised finding out trans people are trans, like I was just so convinced I didn't even realize they weren't originally the gender they present as. Gender transition is insane and so cool.
Girl, i didnt even realise you were trans till you mentioned, you're SLAYING!
she looks so beautiful! i love her make-up 💖
I stopped wearing makeup when I found out about how the mica is mined 😭
Wow the glitters you chose and the blend is so pretty!
been watching you for a while, only just realised you were trans. gay AND goth? girl you are my new fav yt-er
Your eyeliner is perfect omg
I am so envious of your brows! 😍
It’s art and every one should be able to wear it if they want to

You are so pretty with or without makeup!
Bish you slayed that eye liner!!!
Gurl you’re so gorgeous!! 🤩🤩
Whenever your videos come up in the feed I get irrationally happy.
Aww you are soo pretty!!
You are gorgeous!!!❤❤❤ I didn't understand myself as trans until I was older as well.
I've never used makeup, and idk if I ever will, but it's always fun hearing about other people's relationships with it and just seeing how it all works
If this video wasn’t about you being transgender, I for sure would’ve thought you were a cis woman!
You’re right, makeup IS just a cool little thing :)
You’re beautiful girl!!! ❤
Kat. You are absolutely gorgeous!!!!
You are absolutely gorgeous!
Make up is definitely for expression
Omg you're so pretty 💕
I have found a fellow polyamorous transgender person, my life is complete
You pretty with and without makeup.🖤🦇
Tansgender people HAVE to go through this hyperfeminity / hypermasculinity to prove to themselves and the world who they are and the fact that they evwn have to do that to feel secure is heartbreaking but i guess that's the right of passage
Queen shit. Literally would have never known you were trans. Been using your vids to help give myself ideas on what to do with makeup as a mixed race trans baby bat. Much much MUCH love to you.
You're so pretty! 😮😅❤
You are literally so gorgeous 🥰
Wow Kat! Your makeup is so beautiful! Thank you for sharing this with us!
