    I was trying to find a way to change out my inserts, so I can install heavier ones, but I wasn’t sure how to do it without damaging the carbon. This looks about as simple as it gets. THANKYOU so much for sharing!! 👍

      It works great and doesn't ruin the carbon like some other methods.

      I finally tried it, and it works fabulously. I did ruin The first arrow though. But that was my fault… I held the tip over the torch for too long. It melted some of the carbon from the inside. Lesson learned though I guess.@@SamkoTradBow

    @Traditional Bowhunting And Wilderness Podcast do you use epoxy or hot melt glue? I do the same thing with epoxy. Years a go when first learning this technique I used to much heat and the carbon wrapping came out with the insert. So yes just enough heat to pull it out

    • @SamkoTradBow

    Use blue cap G orilla Gel glue fir inserts ..Use acetone or goof off to clean inserts before gluing .
    Lightly sand the inserts with light grit paper ...
    Put glue on 3/4 towards front of insert ..
    Easiler to get out if glue is not at end of insert..

      Learned another great trick from the ranch fairy. Find a drill bit that fits in the shaft pull the nock off and slide the drill bit into the shaft and swing it. It will help knock out the insert.

  • @blacksrfm

    This method does work, but you still need to be careful because you can damage your arrow if you overheat the field point

    • @SamkoTradBow

      Best way I know how to do it. But its a balancing act. pull gently with the pliers every 10 seconds or so and when the heat has done its job the inster will come out.

  • @jamesdevore5171
    @jamesdevore5171 3 роки тому +1

    I removed the nock and slid a drill bit in the shaft. You flick the arrow down and the drill bit works as a slide hammer and will release the insert

    • @SamkoTradBow

      kxmix yes. That is the reason you want to do it this way is so that you don't over heat the carbon and ruin the shaft. You can reuse the insert and the shaft.

    Debates on using Acetone to soak carbon arrow but GT says its ok will not harm carbon fibers ...
    Avoid using drill bit inside and swing it will crack the arrow ..
    Better idea is rod thru nock area just smaller than dia of arrow and lightly tap with hammer while holding arrow..
    Drill bit will mushroom the soft brass inserts ane split sides of arrow ...
    Using no heat is best way I like Acetone then use rod and punch out ....

    Just ruined a $15 arrow by doing this (except heating the field point outside of the arrow, installing it, and about 2-3 seconds later pulling out the point along with some carbon fiber). I’m not knocking this guy or the 12 other videos on UA-cam showing a variation of this method, but I’m just saying be sure of what you’re doing and be careful. (Might also be the way the CX Maxima Reds are constructed) (might also be my dumb ass but, for once, I don’t think that’s the case)

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  5 років тому +1

      You didnt get it hot enough or allow a minute for the heat to sink into the insert all the way. I have had that happen a couple times as well. But there really is no other way to get the insert out.

    • @Petunia31
      @Petunia31 5 років тому +1

      The threads of the FP were just beginning to glow, had it in for about 3 seconds and began pulling, so it may not have been long enough. Also, I did not build the arrows initially so I don’t know what glue was used and that could have been a factor. But you live and learn; I just hope someone may learn “something” from my experience.
      Thanks for the input.

    • @SamkoTradBow

      Heat only the field tip and give it time to let that heat sink into the insert and release the glue. Took me an arrow or to to figure out i wasn't waiting long enough for the heat to get from the field tip to the insert to the glue. And not sure how it works with all glues out there. Some are less heat releaseable than others.
