Rita from The God Complex was amazing. She was everything we wanted in a companion and I loved how The Doctor was totally besotted with her. She was the best companion we never had.
Agreed, not to mention the doctors daughter. Captain Jack should have been a regular too but maybe they are all just too alpha and not sidekick enough.

She was also a really nice person I know we got Donna right after that which is one of my top doctor conpanions but it would have been nice for her not to have just died and to have hit to see some more stuff with the doctor like she wanted. I do agree with the Sally bit though she would have been great.
Tim Latimer - Definitely. I actually thought he was going to walk into the TARDIS at the end of the story. Since then, of course, Thomas Brodie-Sangster has escalated in fame and, presumably, fee per episode.
I'm still not over Lynda, and always felt Tish should have been brought on board. I even liked Martha's brother and dad. Not her mum though. The doctor should have at least took them for a nice family day out in space Vegas or something

Totally agree with Astrid. I Initially thought Lady Christina would be good but then as I thought about it, maybe not. While it's interesting to see how the Doctor reacts when he's not in control of the situation like in that episode or Midnight for example, I could also see it getting very old very quickly with the Christina/Doctor power dynamic of "I'm the leader" "No I'm the leader". Even though say, Donna Noble had enough spunk to contest the Doctor, this was more her standing her ground on what she believes in which kept him in check and is why I feel it works so much better long term than Christina who was just selfishly trying to one-up the Doctor.

@@jonathan.palfrey There still are some distinctive aliens out there. The universe is wast, there are possibilities. Then you had the tree people of Chim (I guess?) in Ninth's era, those were proper aliens and you wouldn't confuse them with ordinary people like you would with Nardole. My list before watching this video - beginning from 2005 (not because I don't like or watch classic, but only because I had to set myself a limit, lol), and including some that aren't that viable but would still be wonderful in at least a couple more episodes... --Lorna Bucket (played by Christina Chong, the Gamma Girl, "A Good Man Goes to War") --Erica (played by Rachel Denning, brilliant hero lab technician, "The Pyramid at the End of the World") --Shona (played by Faye Marsay, "Last Christmas") --Madame De Pompadour/Reinette (played by Sophia Myles, "The Girl in the Fireplace) --Sally Sparrow (played by Carey Mulligan, "Blink") --Vincent van Gogh (played by Tony Curran, "Vincent and the Doctor") --Gwen Cooper (Torchwood) --Osgood --Brian --Wilf --Madam Vastra, Jenny Flint, and Strax --Rita (played by Amara Karan, "The God Complex") --Professor Grisenko (played by David Warner, "Cold War") --Cass (played by Sophie Stone, "Under the Lake") And then after watching the video, I'll add... Lynda and Tim Latimer. 😁
Good call on Duggan, Richard Mace and D84. Beatrix Lehmann as Emilia Rumford had such good chemistry with Tom in The Stones of Blood, it would've been nice to have an old but still lively companion. Or to go a bit younger, maybe Miss Hawthorne from The Dæmons.
I would have liked it if Victorian Clara was the doctors companion. I liked modern day Clara but I think having a young woman from the Victorian era in the tardis would open up so many possibilities
Chela is just a placement for Adric, who should never have been killed off. Plus it was just Tegan and Nyssa so Chela could have joined but Davison didn't want anyone more interesting than his. Also: Timmy from HUMAN NATURE, Jake from RISE OF THE CYBERMEN, and Tommy from IDIOT'S LANTERN (who was originally supposed to have a crush on and kiss the Doctor).
There's a lotta points here but what I'm really taking away from it is that... K9 can drink alcohol? 😂😂 To be honest I'm kinda getting tired of 21st Century Companions especially with the recent additions. It would be nice if the companion was a human from the past or far future ala Captain Jack or an alien/robot companion like K9 or Handles or even the Dalek Companion Big Finish has been working with in Time Lord Victorious. 💜 Edit:- Also why is Madame De Pompadour on the thumbnail? I'm sure I watched the whole list and she wasn't mentioned at all.
_My_ Personal _Top Picks:_ *1)* Perkins *2)* Osgood *3)* O’Donnell (Under the Lake / Before the Flood) *4)* Chela *5)* Tim Latimer *6)* Rita (The God Complex) *7)* Kiani (She’s from a Big Finish story called _“The Eleven”,_ but she’s fr1cking AWESOME) *8)* Jade McIntyre (Arachnids in the UK - I quite liked her, especially the blatant lack of knowledge when it came to how creepy her study-subject was found by other people 😂) *9)* D84 *10)* Handles
@@paulforder591 well Duh, that’s How I know who Kemel is. Yeah the spelling is crooked. His relationship with Jamie was brother in battle. The 2nd Doctor wouldn’t have to run and hide when he has Kemel as a companion.
100% agree about "Richard Mace." I thought he'd make a great 17th century companion when "The Visitation" was first shown. However, I've heard that actor Michael Robbins thought very little of DW and certainly wouldn't have wanted to continue. Second thought: I hadn't considered "D84" as a companion; it's a pity he (it?) was killed off. Now that you mention it, D84 has interesting possibilities.
I would have LOVED some episodes with Wilfred Mott traveling with the Doctor. They could have been the “sad old man squad” at times, despite their apparent age differences, but Wilf was also fun, lovable, brave and kind. Bernard Cribbins had also auditioned for the part of the Doctor, but was turned down for someone younger. Still, getting a consolation prize of playing basically a perfect character is good too.
Somebody I always thought would have been a perfect companion for Peter Capaldi’s Doctor was Frank Skinner as Perkins from Mummy on the Orient Express. I thought he he was the perfect foil for Calpaldi’s Doctor, and who wouldn’t want to watch a couple of crotchety old white guys having adventures together? Perkins was calm and laid back and the Doctor was a bit manic and hyper.
Damn! When I saw the beginning I thought Jenny (The Doctor's daughter!) was going to be on the list! AND Madame de Pompadour! Both deserved a chance in the TARDIS!
I think we all agree getting some none modern day companions would be a nice change for Nu-who. I always thought madam dapompador (excuse my French) would’ve made a cool companion for a few episodes.
so much classic 🤤 keep it coming duggan is absolutely number 1 for me and i think adric is a companion that is essential to the 5th doctor’s arc so i whisking get rid of him at all
I can't believe that I'm the only one calling for Canton Delaware, the gay FBI agent who saved the doctor from the Silence in the episodes the Day of the Moon, and The Impossible Astronaut. Not only a great character but played by the fantastic Mark Sheppard. He would have been a terrific companion.
I would have loved to see Nasreen from The Hungry Earth and Cold Blood. She was funny, brave, curious, and smart. And she developed a quick and easy rapport with Eleven, snapping his bracer strap playfully after the Tardis crashed through the earth. And the Doctor took an almost instant liking to her and obviously thought highly of her, even trusting her at the negotiating table beside Amy.
There's one that I think would be an amazing nod, both from a story telling standpoint and a respectful nod to a lost performer. The Sarah Jane Adventures is clearly fair game since characters would often cross over, so why not... Luke? Surely he's done with university by now and his interesting origin and current restriction to stay on Earth by the Judoon are seeds for stories.
Very pleased to find D84 on the list - I've always mourned the fact he didn't make it as a TARDIS regular. So much potential... and as much as I love K-9, D84 would've been a lot more practical, as was mentioned. One potential candidate missing from the list in my opinion would be Todd from "Kinda" who had a great rapport with Davison's Doctor, but may have been a bit too similar to Liz Shaw...
Jabe (1x02: The End Of The World) was my first favorite almost companion from NuWho. She was brave and witty. I could add Alice O´Donnell, from Under The Lake/Before The Flood...
no Sara Kingdom? You've gotta be badass for Big Finish to weasel around a technicality to make an entire series of radio plays about you as a companion xD
I always thought Sally would be next after Martha and was shocked she wasn't. One correction to the list though D84...as a child I became obsessed with him for a spell and never, never found his face terrifying 🤣🤣
Why is no one talking about the fact that he uses Reinette as the thumbnail but doesn’t include her?!?!

They should bring him back as a Mrk 2. Use the head from Van Statton. That way he could be useful in potential gunfights as well.
And you just threw in the image of Rory’s dad, Brian, at the end. Would love to have Brian and Wilf meet.
Brian was great. He worked out what the cubes were about, in 'The Power Of Three', before even U.N.I.T. boffins had.

--Madam Vastra, Jenny Flint, and Strax
--Rita (played by Amara Karan, "The God Complex")
--Professor Grisenko (played by David Warner, "Cold War")
--Cass (played by Sophie Stone, "Under the Lake")
And then after watching the video, I'll add...
Lynda and Tim Latimer. 😁
We can still get season with Billy Shipton 😁
Lynda with a Y!!! I still cry about her. She and Nine would have been so good together
What a tease with who they featured in the image for this video wasn't featured....
I would have liked it if Victorian Clara was the doctors companion. I liked modern day Clara but I think having a young woman from the Victorian era in the tardis would open up so many possibilities
But death stopped most of them soooo...
Lady Christina De Souza, Astrid Peth, or Jabe would be my picks for should have been companions in the modern Doctor Who.
Okay but Imagine Adelaide Brooke putting the doctor in his place every time he goes to do something ridiculous 😂
There's a lotta points here but what I'm really taking away from it is that... K9 can drink alcohol? 😂😂
To be honest I'm kinda getting tired of 21st Century Companions especially with the recent additions. It would be nice if the companion was a human from the past or far future ala Captain Jack or an alien/robot companion like K9 or Handles or even the Dalek Companion Big Finish has been working with in Time Lord Victorious. 💜
Edit:- Also why is Madame De Pompadour on the thumbnail? I'm sure I watched the whole list and she wasn't mentioned at all.
I promise you, the companions I came up with in my own Thirteenth Doctor era are not just 21st century modern day companions
I would have loved most of these! Just to add a couple: Ray from Delta and the Bannermen and Shou Yuing from Battlefield.
Pleasantly surprised the list wasn't all 21st century. Too many fans don't seem to know about the classic era
_My_ Personal _Top Picks:_
*1)* Perkins
*2)* Osgood
*3)* O’Donnell (Under the Lake / Before the Flood)
*4)* Chela
*5)* Tim Latimer
*6)* Rita (The God Complex)
*7)* Kiani (She’s from a Big Finish story called _“The Eleven”,_ but she’s fr1cking AWESOME)
*8)* Jade McIntyre (Arachnids in the UK - I quite liked her, especially the blatant lack of knowledge when it came to how creepy her study-subject was found by other people 😂)
*9)* D84
*10)* Handles
Also Kamel,(Evil of the Daleks) the silent strongman with the heart of gold.
That's Kemel, Mr. Zeng. I take it you've seen film clips from Evil of the Daleks? (Which is mostly missing, except for episode 2.) 😁😼🇬🇧🇬🇧
@@paulforder591 well Duh, that’s How I know who Kemel is. Yeah the spelling is crooked.
His relationship with Jamie was brother in battle. The 2nd Doctor wouldn’t have to run and hide when he has Kemel as a companion.
Excuse me, but Jack will forever be the smoothest companion. No debate.
EPIC VIDEO KEEP IT UP!!!
"Human Blood"? "10 Characters"? Maybe check the script and voice over before publishing next time.
Very interesting and very welcome
Damn! When I saw the beginning I thought Jenny (The Doctor's daughter!) was going to be on the list! AND Madame de Pompadour! Both deserved a chance in the TARDIS!
These are excellent picks. Especially in New Who, the companions have tended to fall into the same mold. These choices were really interesting.
you should do a top ten lit for sja and torchwood
Nice list
love how at the end he said "10" characters, and showed cassandra
I think we all agree getting some none modern day companions would be a nice change for Nu-who. I always thought madam dapompador (excuse my French) would’ve made a cool companion for a few episodes.
Also Tish is gonna be in the new Loki show on Disney+ and I can't wait
so much classic 🤤
keep it coming
duggan is absolutely number 1 for me and i think adric is a companion that is essential to the 5th doctor’s arc so i whisking get rid of him at all
I can't believe that I'm the only one calling for Canton Delaware, the gay FBI agent who saved the doctor from the Silence in the episodes the Day of the Moon, and The Impossible Astronaut.
I would have loved to have seen more of Professor Emilia Rumford from the Stones of Blood.
Duggan is the greatest one off companions to have ever been on the show. He's the perfect third wheel to the Doctor and Romana.
Would have been nice to have him along - mainly for the thumping.
no Sara Kingdom? You've gotta be badass for Big Finish to weasel around a technicality to make an entire series of radio plays about you as a companion xD
I always thought Sally would be next after Martha and was shocked she wasn't. One correction to the list though D84...as a child I became obsessed with him for a spell and never, never found his face terrifying 🤣🤣
Still hanging onto hope that Jenny is coming back someday, she literally married David Tennant irl
Agree on all of them. I never really thought ... about it outside of the episode arc itself.
Lady Christina de Souza would have make a great companion to the Doctor.
