Jesus saves 🙌🏽. There can be eternity with Him if you open is heart to Him, this world is just temporary! Just wanted to say that hehe. But yes totally agree, Bill Evans is soo good and his music is still so inspiring to us :,,)

If I was born a girl I would’ve been named “Emily”. That has nothing to do with my love for this jazz piece but it’s what comes to my mind when I listen to this beautiful song!
No one will remember tunes from the 80s 90s and onwards, so many wonderful songs written going back to 30s, no wonder they're called standards. I remember loving jazz as 70s teenager, apart from steely dan nothing came close!
Gomez's playing always seemed to be competing for the lead. Chuck Israel's playing (to me)worked better because he was genuinely accompanying Bill's work and not trying to conflict with what he was doing.
richard mackota I can definitely see what you mean. I’ve only heard Gomez play in two recordings, both of which are of “Emily”, but my, I love his efforts. Personally, I see his fast-moving lines more like embellishments to the baseline. I haven’t heard another bass player who really commands attention like he does.
Yea I see what you mean but nothing had went wrong because of that, they still made wonderful music and bill was satisfied if not so Eddie wouldn't have lasted longer .. .and besides, this is how he expressed himself no one is expected to express himself in a certain way it's fine as long as it doesn't get on anyone's way and within the structure..musicians communicate about these things..
Have you listened to Bill Evans' work with Scott La Faro and Motian, the Village Vanguard Recordings? After La Faro died, Bill Evans worked with a number of bassists to recapture that original sound, Chuck Israels and Eddie Gomez among them. You would have to listen to Gloria's Step, for instance, from those recordings to understand that Bill himself was re-imagining what the jazz trio could be. It was Bill who elevated the bass from being a mere background accompaniment to the piano, only playing the root in a humdrum pattern like it was in the bop and bebop area with Tatum, Monk and Bud. Bill Evans freed his left hand from playing the root and the fifth, so he could play the melody in his beautiful harmonic stylings, allowing the bass to also improvise harmonically along the melody with him. Bill was telling both bassist and drummer to have a conversation with him in the modal language. Scott La Faro was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing for Bill, but Eddie Gomez and Chuck Israels were also quite brilliant. The Bill Evans trio changed modal jazz forever.
