It's always better to have another person to tell you to stop to help get the vehicle exactly on top! I used ramps with my dad all the time and that was the best and safest way we found to use them and we put a 78' Chevy 3/4ton 4x4 up on them a few times when we needed a bit more room.
if possible install the jackets so the jack handle is on the outside when you are using the jack Wow Inflation. So you hopefully will not get pinned underneath. There are jack stands that have a hydraulic jack built into them. I have 12lb black composite rams that I bought at Tractor Supply for $69.99 they work great.

I put ol rubber floor mats under the ramps to help keep them in place
