I had the fairlight in mind in the beginning when Woody started to describe the synth. As soon as I heard the teaser music I guessed it wasn't my guess. Nice instrument Woody, I remember the Dx7 like it was yesterday. Time certainly flies! 10/10 for your enthusiasm, great channel, so original and refreshing.
thanks for the comment, very encouraging and glad you enjoyed the pickup. i'm having a blast playing it. you will be seeing it a lot on my channel methinks.
I agree with you on the 32 preset selection. When I first got my dx7 few years ago I made it a goal to learn how to program, and then fill all 32 with my own presets. Since then I've thoroughly learned how to program patches and about 14 of them I'm happy with and won't change.. 32 may not seem like much but a goal like this is not as simple as it may seem! The old saying, less is more, fits this to a tee. You definitely get a feel and understanding for your dx7 with this approach, and your own "signature sounds" if you like.
Hello Woody, you have awesome videos on your channel! Apart from the synth topic, I really like your video and editing style! The way you incorporate the landscape footage and the music performed on the newly acquired synth! Great editing and fun to watch! I am really glad we are now connected here on UA-cam. Big Like and Sub! Greetings to Sweden! Ralph PS: FM Synthesis has never really been my cup of tea ;-) ;-) But the DX7 looked pretty cool though and the keyboard was excellent ;-)
glad you enjoyed the videos, still experimenting on different features and themes for the video, it's fun and a creative outlet! yes I can understand that the DX is an awkward fit in your studio. personally I like the early digi-synths because of the nostalgia of that era, plus they are cheap to pickup compared to analogues. looking forward to spending a while browsing your channel too, keep up the good work!
Woody Piano Shack Hello Woody, I will keep an eye on your videos too :-) As for the Digi Synths, I never really got used to them ;-) Very awkward was the combination of analog sound engine with a digital control panel like the Moog Source ;-) Guess they did it mainly to reduce the price for that synth. Cheers Ralph
Nice find, you must be excited! Believe it or not after work today I'm driving to Guitar Center to pick up a DX-21. I always wanted one after I saw an ad for it in Keyboard magazine in 1986. Kind of nervous ... it was listed in "good" condition, I hope everything works correctly and it's not too banged up!
Very informative and entertaining all wrapped up in one, Woody. I'll be looking forward to viewing your next video. I'm very concerned about you filming and talking while driving in your videos. Please be careful while doing so. It's very easy to become distracted and lose the sense of where you are.

That Eiving Engedal track sounds amazing! - hard yo believe it was produced on such an old synth
Hey woody. Im inspired....loved this video. Hanging to see exactly what debris is lurking on the inside. Love old keyboards.
me too, cheap, and still sounding as good as the day they were made!
Great Old classic american car in the video! Beautiful one!
Checking a DX7 out tomorrow thanks for this video

I love your car, it's beautiful! Looks like it is in pristine condition as well :) Oh and DX7, always good ;)
I think you could say it's built like the Gustav V as a nod to the jurisdiction that you're currently in! 😀

good luck with the 21, seems like a fun little board!
Thanks! I picked it up, and it's in real good shape. Started playing with it and reading the manual (online PDF). I love it!
Dammit man, you've made me want a DX!

What is that song playing in the background as you were driving?
You need to buy another one
I have Dexed but think I may have to get a real DX7...
Saludos de banda tom
Sure hope you did not trade your Juno-6 for a DX-7 :o
Everybody else was selling their analogues for DX7 :) but my father still has the Juno, he had more sense!
you´re driving way too fast :-)
