Heya! I played the original Japanese version, and I've worked on a fan translation patch with my team at Committee of Zero for the better part of two years now (almost done too!). Unfortunately, yes, this localization already has noticeably stilted wording, and as you said, you might not even know the extent without knowing Japanese.
And... yeah. It's kind of unbelievable how much of a mess it is. Untranslated text, lack of consistency in text making narrative throughlines hard to parse, NUMEROUS mistranslations... I could go on and on.
If you or anyone is curious about the game and it's localization, I'd be happy to answer any questions.

@@si-level The opening line of the game is something like "a gaze falls from the sky", with the Japanese text specifically using a word meaning "fall (like rain)". The official translation renders this as "eyes were above me, their gaze pouring down like rain".
Just out of curiosity... this version is the "cleaned" port from ps3, isn't it?

Anytime I need a game review or an unboxing I am coming to you my friend. You know exactly what to say and you make games that seem not so fun actually worth my time. Lol never did I want to play games where you mainly read but now I want this and Piofore because I just need a more laid back experience thank you

Did they ever actually patch the text to fix those text errors and the absence of quotation marks during dialogue?
This is so good to hear! I heard that this game was great, but had no way to play it. And the only version the US got was the anime. Which was... rough, like... not good. And I really wanted it to be good. At least I can now finally play this now and get the full experience. Great review as always!
You should get the comittee of zero patch when it's done. It fixes all the problems with this localization.

Now that its confirmed to be released on Steam maybe we can get some fan patch to improve the translation.
It's long been known for a fact that we will get such a patch. Look up the Committee of Zero if you're not aware of what they do.

Man, I was watching this and the part where it has his character Baselard onscreen, that weird effect had me thinking I was having a stroke or something. Haha. I barely noticed it was happening and when I did I was like "WHAT THE FUCK".

The whole Steam banning sucks so much. But it can't be that hard for Spike Chunsoft to find some other platforms to sell the pc version I would think?
Valve just had the ban reversed, although still wider distribution could never hurt.

Not like he could, since there is no existing official statement anywhere as to just what specific content that might be. As for the Switch version, it's being released not just on the eShop, but also physically packaged in game stores all over the English-speaking world, making the actual relevance of this question somewhat limited...
...And is even more irrelevant now that upper management at Valve have directly examined the situation and force-reversed the ban.

It's infinitely better, the anime is a complete butchery job in comparison. It's also much darker in tone, so go in knowing that.
@@TheWolfgangGrimmer I am a sucker for scary and mystery novels. I cannot help myself but order the game now because of it. I loved the VN steins gate. Hopefully this one, will be as fun and intriguing.
@@ayoubdouch6975 If you pick it up on Steam or a jail-broken Switch, check out the upcoming Committee of Zero patch. They always bring major improvements compared to the default state release.

Not a single SciAdv VN has English dub, not even Steins;Gate in either version.
What a joke of a translation. The fans did a much better job.
As is the case too often, but it kind of gives a huge advantage to amateur translators that they have infinite time to do the work.
