I believe he was put down because if testicular cancer. Saw his owners speech about him. It was obvious he was a part of the family.

How do you have a champion Quarter horse that was half Arab?

He was not half arab. He was pure quarter. His face was sculpted, so that leads many people to believe he was not pure, when in fact his face was just delicate. Look at his sire's fine face. You can see why his was that way.
