Railroads, etc. need so much care, labor, stuff, that the life is a UNIQUE, year-round, special lifestyle they all share and involves specialized work/hobby LIFESTYLE these RR folx are first celebratin' here by getting together. But there's more going on. Think and look again. RR's used to be as common as airliners going everywhere and have a unique experience that never existed before and since. Thus, our children may never know of such a wonderfully unique thing as a train ride over open land again, but through such mini railroads, kept with devotion and appreciation for the phenomena of the railroad itself.
This is a great American holiday hybrid: Halloween scare house plus miniature railroads and locomotives! Its a social development or phenomenon blooming right here first! All the mini-railroads, (hundreds? thousands?) nation-wide can annually put together THE best semi-commercial Halloween haunted houses BECAUSE riding a safe, comfortable, seated, etc. train, stops and starts, outta the riders' control can provide (family-safer) state-of-the-art, Disney-level rides for the season much easier with the inherent operations of the mini-railroad, n'est pas? The train doesn't stop until the ride is over and the lights come back on, keeping the scary show going and everyone safe, seated and comfortable throughout in a systemic, organized way. The rest is left to the imagination, e.g., Universal studios JAWS rides, all the great Disney tunnel rides, etc. Further holiday themes, historical, national and religious holiday, etc. can be used to change the ride timely so folx keep coming back, i.e., guaranteeing year-round sales volume, indefinitely for mini-railroaders "sea to shining sea".
