Last night Baxter and his crew put together the best show ever to raise money for the local Boys and Girls club. It was amazing. And is a testament to who he is. A guitar lover, and business owner, a salesman, an artist, and entertainer, but most importantly a great human being.
I don't know how many David Gilmour Custom Shop Strats are sold each year but they would surely sell 10-times that number if they produced a made in Mexico version. A black nitro-finished Strat with the correct pickups and a 'positions 1&5 together' switch for under 1500 dollars/pounds/euros would make them far more than the CS version.
When I worked for GC in the early 2000s Fender released an Eric Clapton “Blackie” masterbuilt relic for Black Friday and we sold out of them within hours. The following year at the same price point they tried the same thing with SRV’s “Lenny” and we could not give them away! If I remember correctly we sent them back to Fender after about a year with multiple price reductions.. I think it’s semi more about the guitar and how people connect it to artists rather than the artist themselves.
I have the regular Eric Clapton model, not the custom shop, and it is a fantastic guitar. Basically it came with the mods I wanted and no frills. Bought it barely used for 1300. To me that's a good deal. GC still have a custom model for 4k on the wall. I never even bothered to pick it up.
3:35 That lotus burst Orianthi signature is the prettiest PRS I’ve ever seen but I literally can’t pay the price of a car for a guitar. I ended up buying a pink and purple fade maple burl top Leia during Kiesel’s black November. Similar vibe with specs that fit me better for way less money.
I’m totally ok with no signature other than Sir Palphus’s on the LPC heading my way! And I will be even more ok in about 3 weeks or so when I bring some of the money I saved into your fine shop to pick up that 68 pro reverb that I’ve been lusting over!
I would love to have one of those Orianthi guitars, they're amazingly beautiful. Not because of Orianthi, I mean, I'm not blind, yet. She IS a looker and a half, and I'm not deaf either but being a weirdo I want the guitar! lolin'
It's the little things on this channel: A Gumby reference (I saw Gumby creator Art Clokey live lecture in Art College) and a Fred G. Sanford shout out. The G stands for Gibson.
The best purchases I have made from a price/performance perspective we're items from manufacturers that had either fallen out of favor with the buying public., or had never attracted much interest initially: a PRS CAD amp and a Gadow guitar. Trying to predict what will become or remain popular is just a gamble.
I understand the attraction of custom artist reproductions for some but if I was spending anything near the cost I would find CS guitar(s) that are the perfect fit for me and that I want to spend hours playing.
I got the bonamassa amos V recently and granted it’s a super cool guitar but I must admit I got that one sort of as an investment. Also got two of the Brazilian R9 Murphy labs recently mostly cause I got smoking deals on both and plan on playing those regularly. But still kick myself on some of the Gibson runs I owned and sold right away instead of sitting on them (Joe Perry aged les Paul, collectors choice the beast, etc) and passed on ones that I had a feeling about (beano burst, aged Collectors choice 1) when they came out and definitely went up. But you never know what’s gonna be hot. Some of the collectors choice have done very well (sandy/Goldy etc) and some not so much. I’m personally waiting on if they ever do another pearly gates from the Murphy lab. Or if PRs does another super eagle
I just bought a Framus Teambuilt Devin Townsend Stormbender. It's not a strat. It's not an LP. It's truly a "Signature" in that it's it's own thing. Unique in it's design.
Good points made, I love guitars, my dream is a burst with a bigsby! A couple years ago Gibson came out with the Custom Shop 1959 LP Standard Limited Edition Brazilian Rosewood with the bigsby, beautiful piece, but damn, $20,000.00. I am one of those nut cases that will pay a fair price for a guitar, but come on, at most that guitar cost Gibson $3,000.00 to build when you add the Murphy Tax to it. NO guitar should cost over $8,000.00! None of these manufacturers are hand making these instruments, they put the blank in a mill and run a program! Or they 3d scan a body and transfer it to the CNC machine. I am talking more about production and custom shop not remakes. It has gotten out of hand.
Have you done a post here in regard to upcoming prices due to tariffs? I keep watching, but I may have missed your remarks. I suspect we can expect 20 to 30% higher prices minimum. What are your thoughts? A lot of bread and butter comes from the Epiphone and Squire brands which will no doubt be hit with the additional prices. Do you have ANY insight on this. Is it good to sell off my collection of Gibsons, Fenders, Squires and Epiphones NOW?
Everyone is afraid or stupid about tariffs! People already complain about the price of Epiphones, what happens if Trump decides he wants a 200% tariff on Chinese made guitars? The tariffs apply to Made in Mexico Fender's too, how does Gibson and Fender survive? How does Schecter, Jackson, Ibanez, and all the other guitar manufacturers survive Trump tariffs?
These brands try and build around the hype model and create sales based on nothing other than limiting production... which they're not good at doing since anything successful they reboot and sell until literally nobody else will buy it... but beyond being terrible at the hype sales model mostly used by Instagram influencers selling jewelry and slime, they're not actually changing anything other than the window dressing. "Here's the same guitar you've seen countless times, but now with a red spot!" oh wow... let me spend 30k for a red spot.... yeah no thanks... How about some new exotic hardwoods? How about some new magnet alloys? How about unique scale lengths? How about a new body shape? How about a new trem system? How about just a new combination of existing pickups in a new package? Nope.... sorry kids... best we can do is slap someone's signature on it and beat it with a super special set of car keys.... that'll be 20k.... get fucked! I mean go look at the intellectual properties for any of these brands like Gibson, Fender, or PRS.... they haven't even applied for anything in over a decade... they couldn't innovate to save their lives!
If it's anything like the high end car market, it's the same like 200 dudes who buy everything. There's also the whole money laundering/hiding aspect. Gubment charges yearly on financial assets, but only once on a $10k guitar, and a $30k watch, and a $500k car.
I don’t understand the guitar market. If I try to sell something I get low balled and stuff sits around forever. I always lose money in the end. Music stores in my region have been going out of business. Manufacturers are raising prices every year for the past 5 years. How is it sustainable?
How will Epiphone, Gibson, PRS, Fender, and all the other guitar companies survive a 200% Trump tariff? Why is everyone acting like they don't know anything about how tariffs will kill the guitar market?
IIRC Bruce plays a payola Telecaster. Just last year, my Friendly Local Guitar Store sold a payola Nocaster for about $50k. So I would imagine that the price of admission for Bruce's mutt would be in the realm of the Greeny Experience.
Buying guitars as an investment is an incredibly STUPID thing to do. Invest in the stock market, in companies you understand. Keep an eye out for companies on the rise.
the whole signature series guitar thing is complete nonsense why am i going to spend thousands on a reissue standard LP when i can by an amazing real deal Kalamazoo for the same price as a reissue ( ok not 59 but even that is stupid ) in the end your still going to sound like u no matter who's name is on the guitar and u will loose money on the deal .. guess what hasn't gone down in price my pre CBS Strat and my 50yr and older Les Pauls ... everything in life started out as a STANDARD regardless of age and $8-$12k will get u one hell of a nice real deal vintage guitar ,, so weird folks spending $$$$$$$$$$$$ on reissues when u can buy the real deal .. sorry for the rant but 45plus yrs of buying guitars im just amazed .. its like going to Jack in the box and spending $10 on whats supposed to be a real Hamburger but deep down inside u no its just a cheap quick imitation of what u really want that cost $11

I don't know him yet, but I've got to say you're right. His actions speak louder than words fer sure.
Might as well buy Franklin Mint collector plates and Beanie Babies.
Some signature guitars are so familiar to the artist specifically that it would be like wearing Slash’s hat.

As a punk fan I’m a fan of stickers on guitars, but also as a punk fan I think it’s a poser move to buy a new guitar designed with stickers
The only guitars I went Fan Boi on are that I have a first year of each of the Eric Johnson signature model Strats.

I landed on my dream FCS limited edition Tele at Casino!
Clarification Note: "I saw it back in NAMM!" has a much different meaning than "I saw it back in 'Nam!"
Lol
Nice Variety Show last night, Loved it

That area in Nashville where the Gibson Garage is, ain’t exactly some place you wanna be unarmed.
You're afraid to walk the streets of Nashville without a gun?...lmfao
What's it like being afraid of everyone and everything all the time?
Caught your band playing Born to Run'...very impressed with the whole event

The "low key" Wrangler pop up was a nice touch. I laughed.
Thanks for the info!

IMO, a Keith Richards Micawber Tele would be the all time seller at inception....AND...increase in value going forward
Gibson really needs to back off on the Slash sig guitars.
I didn’t want to see Slash’s snake! Great episode!

Quick question which out of the big three, Gibson,Fender and Paul Reed Smith is more affordable for the working musician???
Forget the Fender custom shop, buy the Hello Kitty Squire and forget about it.

@@bryonkidder6199 I spoke with Gibson today. It's coming. Period. They are waiting to see what happens.
guys,
Let there be light......
studio lighting looks like you are in a dark cave.
I want to know how much you want for the Terry Kath telecaster?
Thanks!
John, you are the patron saint of Casino caffeine !
In the UK slash is slang for going for a pee. .... back in a bit, I'm just going for a slash....
can you two obligate Gibson to make metallic finished explorers please?
Baxter, did you get any tickets for Oasis? I’ll be at the Toronto show.
Got a pretty good story about Mike and his guitar.

Hilarious how the wranglers affiliate link came up lol.
I'm waiting for the Epiphone version of the Jimmy Page Les Paul.

My guitars are at a steady $250 😅
$500 hello Kitty Squier
I’m sorry but if I end up with a 1984 left handed Les Paul, it’s never leaving my possession.
I’m convinced Orianthi is a man baby yeahhhh
Limited edition
Now the hype gonna be another beat up sunburst Strat for the rhcp fanboys. 👎

Not a fan of "signature" guitars. It's like when I buy a sport jersey, I don't buy them with some other guys name on the back either.
