My STBD engines STBD cams appeared the same when I was done. If there is zero slop in the belt, and if the index marks on the belt (all 5 marks) are exactly right, you MAY appear to have the cam-to-cam marks a tiny bit off. Like one half to one tooth. This is what happened to mine. So I removed the belt and started over from scratch. Same result. I started at the crank and used the belt guide to hold the belt tight to the crank. And then proceeded with the cams and followers. I was so nervous that I had screwed it up that I spun the engine over multiple times with no issue. Started it right up and it's fine. The engines have matched RPM with matching throttle positions, exactly as they did before I did the belt irrespective of power settings. If the timing was off, that would not be the case. So I'm pretty sure that he's got this fine. There is only one way to get that belt on and to have the BELT marks match the CAM marks. IOW, if you insist on the cam marks lining up perfectly then one of the belt marks will be off. I elected to ensure the marks on the belts aligned with the outer marks on the cams and accepted a tiny cam to cam differential. I'll do my PORT engine next and I am going to go berserk with the marks. I'll prob photo them at TDC and may even add witness tape IF the cam-to-cam marks are not perfectly lined up.
The tensioner was bad, so we replaced it. It's easier to install the new belt with the tensioner removed; If you'd like, I can post a video showcasing how.
Yes I agree tensioners need to be replaced with belt and idler pulleys also to me . Just as a precautionary . If they seize it is a interference engine . Meaning valves will contact piston if not of time
@@cheetoz6902 Precautionary? Why not just put in a new ECU while you're in there then. Sorry, I'm not going to start slapping new parts in there just because they have 850 hours on them.
@@edwarddougherty6552 What does Yamaha say in their manuals about when to replace the tensioner? ZERO. Two new tensioners is about 1300 bucks. I'll be re-using mine.
Wow! This was exactly what I needed. Keep it up guys!
Why did you change the tensioner? Quite an expense part to replace if its not necessary?
You say by the book it is supposed to take a couple hours... what book are you referring to? Always wondered how they estimate hours for a job...
Would this be the same procedure for a 2013 Yamaha 250 S.H.O. VF250 LA?????.
If the SHO is 4.2 yes it’s the same.
good afternoon Yamaha 450, do you happen to know where the marks on the block are, I can’t figure it out?
If time was off a tooth would that cause the engine to not start but just keep turning over and over after replacing the belt
No but it could foul spark plugs
can you show how to easy is install a new tensioner?
Yes I will make a video
Fala mano . Aonde consigo esses Sacar Volante e trava volante. Um abraço Show de bola de explicação . Deus abençoe
How about a more complete video from start to finish ?
To get to the point where the video started is basic removal of the covers and flywheel.
Buena puesta a punto buena sincronisacion
How many hours should the belt be changed
1000 hours
Thank you
Port side cams are a tooth off

I don't understand why you removed the tensioner. And then you replaced it with a new one or did you just reinstall the old one? Please explain.

An ECU doesn’t have bearings that can fail.
