    I switched over from Things 3 to Omnifocus 4 a couple of months ago (largely thanks to you banging on about it so much) and am very pleased I did. I particularly like the integration with Apple Shortcuts. When a new magazine article is commissioned I can add a project with all the associated tasks and important dates all worked out relative to my deadline. It's great! I didn't know about the ability to assign a search to a tag's location though, so was pleased to learn that today. And I definitely need to start making more use of maildrop.

    Wonderful video. You gave a lot of real life examples and the usual challenges for actual usage. Contrast this with many other videos that are focusing on functionality and theoretical usage. I find this video very relatable and different. Thank you and subscribed.

    Many thanks for this great guide! Have been a longtime user of OmniFocus, but I still enjoyed it as a guide on my way to use it better and more consistently. And yes, if you were to provide the fourth biscuit and talk about automation (which you seem to have mastered brilliantly and I still struggle with), I would volunteer to bring the tea ;-)

      Ah, you're just being nice there. I'm happy with the kind of Shortcuts automation I showed, where a school visit project is created for me. And it's true that every time I invoice someone, I find a task about checking they've paid has been added automatically with a date of 30 days from now. But then there's whole Omni-Automation website which daunts me a little. But I'm working on a video about the Shortcuts version, and I'm asking someone for help on the larger stuff.

    This is your first video I've watched, and I will now go into the backlist. I'd love that fourth biscuit-I've always been weak on any kind of Apple automation, and there are projects that I constantly have to recreate in OF that automation could easily do. I have to say that I've been a fan and user of Omni apps for years and years, but I've always underutilized OF, particularly when things get really hairy. I'll turn to Reminders or even paper when I have multiple things I have to get done that day. You know, like a "first ten"? Why didn't I think of using a tag for this??

    Do you find yourself having to look at a dedicated calendar as well? Or do you just use OmniFocus as a schedule?

    • @WilliamGallagher
      @WilliamGallagher  2 місяці тому +1

      As good as it is to have your events shown in OmniFocus, you can't add or edit them. So I use Fantastical. A long, long time ago I opened up my calendar one morning to discover I was apparently supposed to be in another city. Had to drive like mad and I did make it, but since that day I've made sure to check the calendar first and last thing daily.

    • @mr_red13
      @mr_red13 2 місяці тому

      @@WilliamGallagher The good thing about OmniFocus that I noticed from your video was that events from your calendar not only shows up in your forecast, but you are allowed to fit tasks between them so you can better look at your day.
      Things 3 only shows the calendar events bundled warmly together at the top, which isn’t as helpful. But the big question I have is, can you view the *location* *and* *details* of a calendar event in OmniFocus or would I have to open up my calendar like Fantastical?

    If I get an m2 Mac mini base model, and keep it off line, no updates, and just use pages to edit a manuscript, would it last at least a year without filling up the storage? My windows laptop will be dead soon and there’s no time to wait for the m3 or m4 if it’s coming at the end of the year.

    • @WilliamGallagher
      @WilliamGallagher  2 місяці тому

      Sorry, I replied to this but UA-cam says I haven't. What I was thinking was that you might do better buying an M1 Mac mini with more storage: that could work out to the same cost and for what you're doing, it sounds to me as if an M1 would be good. (Both my Mac mini and my 14-inch MacBook Pro are M1.)

    • @Jay-dx9zp
      @Jay-dx9zp 2 місяці тому

      @@WilliamGallagher it happens to me too. Sometimes the comments vanish. The place where I would get a Mac mini only has the m2. My plan was to get a cheaper one now, and toss it when the m3/4 pro comes out. But $799 is a lot to throw away. That’s a new iPad right there. Do you know if a laptop will still work if the battery is dead. The red light is flashing and the battery % is going down. If the power goes out, the laptop shuts off, so the battery is done. But will the laptop still work, plugged in, when it hits zero?

    • @WilliamGallagher

      @Jay-dx9zp It should do, yes.
