You are just amazing As a retiree and a small fan of Ukiyoe, I borrow many books from pub library n photo copy whatever I like to make Uki scrapbook, genre by genre, make a comparison using Netsuke and Inro model books as British Museum,s. Keep it up!! from Auckland, NZ
Hey Kevin darn good question. "Backed" means that the print has been glued to paper or card. This was commonly done when the prints were put into albums by their owners - kind of like scrapbooking. The good thing is, it kept all the prints together connected in an album, also that they used water based glues back in the day. The bad thing is that a backed print is not worth as much as a non backed print. You can try to remove the backing BUT some inks after 1868 bleed terribly and so you really can't do it to prints after that date. I have a video on this topic at ua-cam.com/video/lZ-HKBbqV7c/v-deo.html Hope that helps!
Hi, love the unboxing! It would make it even more exciting if you could tell to each piece how much the market value would be just in your opinion 😊
That's a good idea - I'll think about that for my next one.
Woah! always exciting to see the unboxing!
Yes! always fun and educational.

Thanks Dok! I plan to keep it up. What you're doing sounds like a very interesting and educational pastime. Keep it up!
Thanks! Cool to watch. Can those of us who are not gallery owners also purhase like this at auction? What are some sites you'd recommend? Thanks!
Yes, auctions are open to everyone with a credit card. Check on Invaluable and Liveauctions to start.
congratulations! what seller sent this excellent packing? prints look excellent quality!
It's the Japanese version of ebay. Some of the prints were excellent but some were backed and worn a bit. I'll do some gentle restoration.
Could you please explain what "backed" means? Thank you
