The newest EV batteries will double the mileage because they have double the power for the same price, and same with future solar panels, such as perovskite panels. This almost certainly will happen by 2030, but maybe sooner, like 2026-7.

Aptera is a game changer, And the fact that repairs should not be many at all is great. Change tires every five years or so hehehe so awesome. Basically service free. The dealer ships hate it as no repairs equals no income after the sale of the new vehicle.

There seems to be a slight misunderstanding where Right to Repair is concerned. There is no right to repair in the sense that a manufacturer is obliged to repair a product. The product just has to designed in such a way that repairs are easy and ‘doable’, also by the owners themselves. For that to be feasible, parts and repair procedures must be readily available. This notion should be actively promoted by the manufacturer. This in contrast, for example, with manufacturers like Apple, who make it actively virtually impossible to repair their products.

Take my money, already! Seriously I am bummed that it hasn't made it to production yet despite its clear advantages over almost every other type of car for this segment... And frankly this is the car that most people actually want and need as their daily driver... Since the vast majority of drivers travel alone and less than 40 miles round trip at and average speed of like 40 mph.. But yet its more than capable of road-tripping in it... Much like my Smart Fortwo which I've done cross continent trips on...

Being a new automotive company, it makes sense that Aptera wants to make it clear that they support right-to-repair. The first step was to engineer the Aptera simply, so it doesn't break down or require lots of maintenance in the first place. And if something does go wrong, they will send a trained technician out and do the repair, or provide parts and information for local mechanics to repair the vehicle, or provide parts and info for skilled owners to perform their own repairs and modifications. This model is fundamentally different from legacy dealerships, who make most of their profits from ongoing maintenance and repairs, throughout the life of the vehicle. Controlling parts availability, price, and often requiring special tools, proprietary diagnostics, and restricting the repair and parts information. Even sometimes voiding the factory warranty if repairs or maintenance work is not done by the dealerships. I'm not expecting to have much go wrong with my Aptera for many years, but I'm glad that the plan to support right-to-repair is designed right in, even before the first Aptera is ever built.

Obviously an Aptera will need new tires and brakes at some point. Also it will need an Aptera specialist mechanic to look over any Aptera that's been in an accident, and once every 30K miles, etc. for even those accident free Apteras. Hopefully the company will include at least a 90-day to 1-year warranty on the drive train, and also offer an additional extended drivetrain warranty.

You know, it is easy for them to claim they are right to repair or what not when they don't have an actual product and worse do not even have an official warranty declaration yet. Even sillier they actually stated that some warranties may only be pass through from the original manufacturer of the part! No automotive company does that because consumers expect the seller of the finished product to handle all warranty claims! This leads many to believe that Aptera may not have the parts on hand to allow you to perform the repairs in a timely manner. Just because they claim they make it easy to do your own work does not mean it is easy to find the necessary replacement parts as nearly all electronics shown so far are bespoke to Aptera.
Plus it is very obvious channels like yours have never delved deep into what Tesla offers all owners for servicing their own vehicles. Any Tesla owner can use the service portal for incredibly detailed service instructions to include replacement of components. Let alone all the on board diagnostic features.

I keep hearing about this right to repair. Does anyone here have ever spent at least part of their life in the car repair industry. It sounds like nobody has. I grew up in it and to this day have various family members that still do. When I bring this up about Aptera, they just roll their eyes and say, "good luck with that."
There are so many issues that Aptera glosses over when it comes to this. In addition to that, Aptera has kept their warranty a secret. For a transparent company, wouldn't you'd think they would have come up with this by now. Elio Motors has a 3 yr 36 mo warranty and they are in the same spot as Aptera. Never got past prototypes.

@@stix2you - I would not consider Zenn to be a good example. It was a really low volume vehicle and limited to city use.
With Aptera, they just keep saying, "right to repair" yet they never go beyond that. All I have heard is that you just scan a QR code and then that's it. Everything you need.
Sounds simple but since you are a mechanic, you know how it is. You work flat rate and thus when you need to access information, you need it fast and then need to know the TU to determine how long it's going to take to fix it. Plus how about diag time?
When an Apera shows up and let's say it's 6 months old and the rear hatch doesn't open. How do you diag it? Can you plug in a scanner? Does the vehicle have a comprehensive diag system on it? Apter has never told us that even though I have asked them a number of times.
Then for warranty. How does that work out? Take it to a show and say, "This is an Aptera, fix it under warranty, they are right to repair." What do you expect the shop to do? Just call the company and say, "We have an an Aptera that the rear hatch doesn't open, we scanned the QR codes and know how to remove the latch and controller, thus what do we do to figure out which one? Plus, how do we get paid and how long will that take because we have never heard of you before."
You know this as you deal in the business. On the other hand, maybe shops will just lose money on them. It sure worked out for Arcimoto. One other thing, not all people can work on their own car. If they did, you'd be out of work.
