      Apart from the fact if only a third of the world was heterosexual the population would be zero by now and humans would have died out centuries ago.
      It’s just a Greek sexually perverted apologetic for how the elite who didn’t have to work the land lived their lives, so sat around all day trying to make excuses for their bored debauchery and drunken antics. It is the the most flawed illogical fallacious crock of 💩 ever written. So apart from that fact , yes it describes 3 per cent of the world. It’s totally illogical, abnormal and self indulgent perverse world view.
      Congrats. You would be a patrician in the senate of Greco Rome, a privileged waffling sex deviant due to nepotism lacking in common sense and spouting tautological paragraphs, where brevity and honesty would be sufficient. In short.
      Your comment confirms that you have zero integrity and have failed to grasp reality.

    They were stuck to each other at their tummy and that’s why we have a navel!

    • @mistrants2745
      @mistrants2745 3 роки тому +3

      That is correct, but their heads were also backwards. So after being cut in half, their face was on what we would call our back, while the navel was on the other side. But the gods twisted their faces around and thats how we ended up with our face on the side of the belly button.

    It is a story full of symbolism. You can get wiser when you try to interpret myths and you it is also good to think about this myth.
    But I don’t know if there is just one other half for a person. This myth could also imply you to think that you can not become whole or be in unity with yourself and the devine when you do not find your other half.
    So I also see some interpretations of this myth as problematic, lets say I am not the biggest fan. But maybe has truth to it, but I personally doubt it.

      the movie and rock musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch is inspired heavily by this story. although it is not this story itself, i do think you'd enjoy it. the main character Hedwig becomes obsessed with this tale when she is young, and has since then devoted herself to finding her other half.

      @mrhat50 The crazy thing is we know there is the other half of us out there somewhere. I believe that our mission in life is to find them. I also believe that in every lifetime we actually do meet but we fail to recognize each other because our awareness only registers after the event by which time they are long gone. We have to keep returning to this earthly plane for as many lifetimes as it takes to finally connect. Only then can we move on in our whole form to a higher plane.

      This myth was supposed to show how comically stupid Aristophanes was. It was obviously showing him making justification for his vices of lust and sexual desires through this myth. Socrates immediately debunks it with his dialogue with diotima and this myth was never meant to be a representative of Plato’s idea of love. Rather Aristophanes was everything wrong with Greek culture, Plato hated him due to his play “the clouds” that made fun of Socrates so purposely made his day stupid things like this shallow myth in the symposium

      Bisexuality was known in by the ancient Greek and Roman, and from what I've heard, they even thought it would be the most common one. But I also think that Bisexuals weren't called as such, because a man for example was allowed to have a intimate relation with others of the same sex, but still has to had a wife. So I guess they were more of a "advanced heterosexual ".

      The term comes from the French mythomane.
      Mythomania, on the other hand, is a psychological disorder that consists of LYING in a compulsive and pathological way.
