Few lessons for the enthusiasts. Recently had a talk with someone in the loop. Mainstay of IAF: Mirage. Why? Because of constant upgrades. It very difficult to get a radar lock against the Mirage. In balakot strike PAF failed to lock Mirages but locked on to sukhois with ease even with jammers. Sukhois now has both analog and digital radar warning receivers. According to my source it is very difficult to penetrate deep inside enemy territory with sukhois. It is generally used for recee and patrolling. Mirage has very effective jammers.
PAF didn't lock any during Balakot strike because the only jets they flew went for the decoy that IAF created in the South. Even ACM BS Dhanoa back then said PAF had no terminal weapons, and he further implied that PAF wasn't part of what Pakistan Army does, it was telling and quite close to the truth if you listen to strategists aware about the subject. PAF locked on to both Mig 21 BIS and Su30s when they conducted the counter op, because these were the AD fighters. PAF's claim they shot down a Su30 just wouldn't hold ground if they didn't even lock it. What tells you Mirages were even in the range of PAF for them to lock on, they weren't in firing range on the night of Balakot strike and didn't fly air defense on the counter op by PAF.
