If your pressure was low 25, recommend 33, down 25% pressure plus full send... seems like the main issue is tire pressure not tire?? Glad nothing major happened at 80mph!!!
On my old MK7 GTI, I used to run fairly high pressures up front to help compensate for tire rollover when camber wasn’t sufficient. Like 32-34 cold. Would aim for 40 hot. Never had any issues.
Glad you’re alright! Makes me think twice about running my 265/30r19 PS4S on track with my M2C. Never had problems with 200TW 30-profile tires, nor PS4S 30 profile, but they’re merely a rainy track day tire for me. Can’t believe the tire collapsed like that! Thanks for the great content, as always, Fenton!
The PS4S should not be driven hard below 30psi. The one time i had to track on PS4S for time trials, they had to be pumped up to 34psi cold to not roll on sidewalls, was sketch even at 28psi cold. 235/35 on a 8.5j. The star spec BMW PS4S may be better off or running a wide tire on rim combo like 255 on 8.5j may help. But ultimately I don’t think it’s Michelin’s problem if it unbeaded at non optimal pressures, as the liabilities go towards to the driver when running non approved pressures by the car manufacturer. Stuff like this is also why track day tires with stiff sidewalls exist, allowing a wider range of usable pressures. In short, PS4S should be somewhere between 30-40psi cold, will only last a couple laps because it is what it is. P.S. nice driving 👌🏻
I'm not seeing the "massive understeer" in T6 causing the off. It looks like you just upset the car a little on entry and catching the oversteer put you on course to run very wide. I don't think infinite front grip would have kept you from putting at least 2 off. At least you caught the car and didn't go into the wall backwards!
@@Zygrene Wow that's crazy. I was just basing my comment on not seeing a big leftward steering input without response. That just means there's going to be a HUGE improvement over stock when you get proper tires, suspension and alignment. Thats typically what happens with FWD cars. Huge improvements over stock.
Dumb question - it used to be conventional wisdom to add a few pounds of tire pressure for better grip. Your hot pressures are about what cold pressure is rated, so it seems that your cold pressure is below manufacturer recommendations. How about setting cold pressure 2-4 pounds higher than recommended?
Glad you were able to stop in time and were able to drive home. I had a similar scary off situation in my CT4 Blackwing. RE71RS on it's 3rd track day abruptly started understeering. But you can get a nice pickup for 40k plus 15k Miata /s2000, c5, etc. Total 55k which happens to be the price of type s. Yes, there will be additional maintenance, nonetheless I think I know which option I would choose.
@@retrograde11 That is a smart option. I highly recommend a C5Z (Nice examples can be had for a little more - 20-25k). I've driven many Miatas, love them to death. Never driven an S2k but love the AP1 high revs.
FWD 4 EVA
Maybe I'm just jaded but why are you tracking a $50k fwd luxury car? $10k NC2 Miata + $5k for tires and mods + $5k for track days, and then like $30k left over for a daily. Just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. You came very, very close to stuffing a brand new car into a wall.
There are definitely pros/cons to tracking a daily driver. I just don't have space for a third car right now.
Is it really fair to blame the tire when you went off the track? I get that the PS4S isn't the right choice to withstand this type of track driving, but the folding thing should be chalked up to the physics it had to endure when flying off the track sideways into a couple hundred feet of gravel.
Also I'm sure you'll be all over this eventually, but please try to include impressions of street/canyon driving after the mods as well. I will be doing the occasional track day but 95%+ of my usage will be on the street, and I feel that the car is near perfect for backroads fun drives, and don't want to do anything to compromise that for a few extra seconds of lap times.
Also I kind of hate the way 18s look on this car but if there's legitimate performance benefits I guess I'll learn to live with it...
The tire debeading happened before I went off track (I'm pretty certain)
That Z06 at 4:25 took off like the integra was sitting still lol.
505hp (or maybe more) vs 320hp haha
brown pants moment for sure
Human error
But you can learn from it
ditch the michelins ASAP. highly overrated tire brand
Understeer 😢
wow in a FWD car lol😂
Certainly fast, but how much do you miss the "fun" of RWD while youre put there? Ive only ever tracked FWD thus far, so ignorance is bliss 😉. But just curious...
I do miss the fun of RWD, but FWD offers its own unique and fun challenges. I can also push it hard with more confidence.
It’s a heavy family 4 door car
its 3200 lbs lmao
Phew
What GoPro accessories are you using for the helmet?
A bunch of random GoPro branded arms and a helmet mount
