      You can praise all of them for their talent and criticize all of them for racing dirty, one doesn't invalidate the other. I'm not old enough to remember Senna, but when it came to it Schumacher was as dirty as they come and Verstappen takes a lot of pages from his book.

      @@quase3 Senna purposely crashed his rival out to win a championships, The whole if your not a racing driver if you no longer go for a gap, was him purposely wrecking Prost for the WT, a year after Prost had essentially done the same thing into the Chicane for the world title.
      Schumacher also straight up wrecked an opponent after he went off and was in danger of losing the World championship to him. Just turned right into him. Believe it was Hill he hit.
      Even Lewis just straight up would drive people off the track. Lewis's typical MO is beat them to the Apex and then take the line like they don't exist, See for example 2021 Silverstone. Its not a nock on Lewis, its just how 90% of the grid overtakes, and is why we dont see that many wheel to wheel battles, cause no one leaves any space.

      That's true. But it's also true that if he pulled the stunts he pulled in 2021 in any season before or after, he would have been issued a race ban. He was far over the limit in 2021. The only reason F1 let things go the way they went, was because of the entertainment value of it. It was one of the worst seasons per racing standards in recent years and whether you're a Max fan or not, you'll have to be extremely biassed to not admit that he crossed the line multiple times, especially in Brazil and Saudi

    to say 'the old max is back' or anything like it is stupid. Vettel did exactly the same a couple of years back as max did in austria, better yet vettel pushed hamilton fully onto the kerb. Lando just didn't let himself get 'bullied' on track, thus resulting in the crash. It's a racing incident in the end, because both parties could've done something to avoid contact.

    • @DevinEMILE
      @DevinEMILE 2 місяці тому +75

      I just think its funny that Everyones like Lando mailing it up the inside from way to far back, missing the apex, essentially forcing max to stop or drive off the track is fair. Like a crash was always going to happen when Max defends like his life depends on it, and Lando was just sending it up the inside at every chance into turn 3.
      Landos overtaking was clumsy and looked like Max from 2016. Max's defense was normal for most drivers, Lando just refused to yield leading to the contact.

    • @Gwox
      @Gwox 2 місяці тому +21

      @@DevinEMILE I think it has to be acknowledged that Lando's clumsy overtaking seemed to be a direct response to Max's moving in the braking. In the sprint race we saw a clean overtake from Lando in that same corner, and it looked as though he was going to do the same again in the grand prix before Max cut in front of him at the last minute, forcing him to back out. From then on, every move Lando made had to be so late Max couldn't possibly have time to react (see his first divebomb, where Max again twitched in the braking zone to cut in front, but realised if he did Lando was too committed to stop so kept left). It's not a justification of Lando's driving, but if someone's going to defend beyond the boundaries, the only way to overtake them is to go beyond the boundaries too (or hope the FIA actually penalise them for it but fat chance that's ever happening if there's no contact), and when 2 drivers are both doing that, it's inevitably going to end in an incident.

    The thing you forgot to mention about Saudi 2021 is Max had to give the position back to Lewis for leaving the track and gaining an advantage (a harsher penalty than the warning Max received in Brazil). Mercedes NEVER told Lewis that Max was going to be giving the position back, so Lewis thought Max was ONLY DRS Hunting, causing Lewis to ride the back of Max, puting himself in a position to be brake checked (Think Vettel at Baku 2017. Vettel put himself in that spot). That incident has 3 people of equal blame. Max for driving in an unsafe manner, Mercedes for never informing Lewis that max had to give back the position, and the FIA for setting up the track in a way that allows DRS hunting.

If you're going to make a defence of someone, at least make the facts right and not make it up to just suit your narrative 😂 And let's not forget that although the divebomb wasn't exactly the best overtaking attempt there has ever been, this did come after Max had already moved in the braking phase several times already. Verstappen is a generational talent but it doesn't mean he isn't unnecessarily aggressive when he's defending or overtaking at times. Red Bull are to blame too as they never criticise their star drivers, only deflect the issues at hand as someone else's fault all the while.

      @@honeybadger1656The only reason I can think of is that outside of the safety cell, F1 cars are comparatively made out of glass. Any sort of side-to-side contact has a good chance of damaging the floor enough to significantly reduce performance, and people expect the drivers to race each other around that fragility. Spoilers, racers like to _race,_ even if it risks catastrophic damage to their car.
      Sidenote, I'd argue that a current Indycar is slightly safer than an F1 car, purely because it's designed to make flying into a catch fence at 220+ survivable. I'm pretty sure the sheer strength of that survival cell is half the reason they're almost as heavy as an F1 car despite being significantly smaller overall.

You'll find people to this day saying that Max should have been punished more for the crash at Monza, and Lewis more for putting Max into the wall at Silverstone, depending on which camp they're in. In any sport, the arbiters will forever be the target of scorn and ridicule, fair or not. And they published both drivers their telementry's, and even Johnny Herbert (one of the stewards that particulair race) staded that there was actually no evidence on Max his onboard what so ever, about his suspected movement in his breaking zone.. So the stewards felt they had to set an example, because the thought Max was very intimedating toward Norris, so that was actually the reason why they penalized him..But actually Max was the one who avoided an collision several times during this particulare race and the previos race in Barcelona at the start where Norris pushed Max in to the grass.. Max hasn't changed, but apparently some drivers think that if they have to compete with Max.they do must drive extra aggressivlyto try to beat Max.. But apperantly some other drivers still underestimating Max, because they can't intimidate Max..The had only four collisions with an another competitors in the last three seasons was suprisingly all with three British drivers (Russell in Baku 2023, and Las Vegas 2023, both: Russell's fault. I'm sorry but trying to blame Lewis claiming he was playing DRS games in Saudi is disingenuous. Max had ran off the road at turn 1 twice already, had been given a penalty and ordered to cede position. Listen to the radio comms. GP literally says to do it smartly/intelligently. That means do it at the last corner and then re-pass with DRS.
    Which isn't even allowed. You can't cede position and then re-pass at the first possible opportunity. Lewis did that at Spa in 2008 when a rule didn't even exist and he still got penalised.
    So why didn't Lewis just let Max re-pass if it wasn't legal anyways and would result in a penalty? Because Michael Masi had let Max get away with so much in that race and Brazil, Max had ran him off at T1 twice already, would you trust that Max wouldn't do something like that again? Would you trust that if he did pass illegally that the FIA would penalise him for it?
    Fuck that. Max's driving in Saudi is the worst I've ever seen. He should have been disqualified from the Saudi race and banned for at least one race. But DTS was alive, so instead we got them sweeping it under the rug and somehow finding something even more controversial in Abu Dhabi. A joke season.

  • @h077y

    It’s not an accident. When Max is racing, he has a mentality of “ if you do not yield, we will crash” and he wants the other drivers to know that. It’s a warning. And this goes for both when somebody is trying to overtake him and when he is trying to overtake someone else. it’s clear that he never matured out of his Crashstappen ‘phase’. The other teams simply didn’t have a car to compete so he has not had the opportunity to race anybody at the front again until now, and the moment he did he was back to his old tricks.
    In Austria I hadn’t even gotten past my anger at him gaining position off track and not returning it and then they crashed! Seeing how he then still didn’t even stop, and was pulling nasty out of order moves even while their cars were trashed, just shows his mentality. He’s a dirty driver who will win by any means necessary, but it’s not surprising when you know what his upbringing was like. Monsters create monsters.

    You can't give 2 license penalty points to Alonso for a racing incident and give Max 10s for Austria.
    You can't give Magnusen license penalty points left and right up until his close to the race ban and then stop giving him penalties.
    You can't keep pretending that the outcome of an incident and the drivers involved aren't affecting the penalties given and for similar thing you give drastically different penalties.
    Max is playing with the limits, and even if I don't like him as a driver I respect him and I can't blame him for the stupidity of the stuards and FIA

Lewis had so much time to overtake, which Max was allowing by driving dozens of kilometres slower and Lewis refused to pass while sitting in his draft for the entire straight. We have no clue what Max was thinking at this point. Drafting a slow moving car is equally as erratic as braking. Lewis should’ve passed, his own team knew he was slowing down to allow the pass.
