I lived a gay life for 25 years and today after going through trials in my life I fully surrendered my gay life to God and asked God to give me a new life in Christ. Since then since 2011 all of my problems and all of my enemies are gone and whats left is peace within myself with a new life! I tried to be straight once because I felt forced by my church but sex with men repulsed me, I would just kind of lay there and disassociate until it was over( felt like rape), no connection whatsoever. I felt nothing romantically for men, was never giddy as you would feel on first dates, or never fell in love like I did when I was with another woman. I’m not telling you this to be repulsive or inappropriate, I’m telling you to try to get you to understand that being gay isn’t a choice, if it was do you think gay people would choose to be oppressed? Absolutely not, if I could be straight I’d 100% do that because my life would be easier! God made me this way and I feel no negativity about my choices, I know deep down in my heart God made me this way and my moral compass feels spot on, happier than ever with my lifestyle.

"Love the sinner, hate the sin" is a nice way of thinking in theory; however, most times our hate for the sin also causes hate for the sinner. It is difficult for people to love someone but hate something that is such a big part of their lives.
So do we throw the bible out? Over and over and over the bible condemns sexual sin and especially homosexuality. There is no way of getting around it. The real answer is to tell them they are living in sin, but tell them in love. To not tell them the truth is to not love them.

A church that turns away sinners is not a christian (as in Christ following) church. A church that does not follow scripture is by definition not a christian ( Christ following) church, since Christ is the very Word of God. There is no dichotomy. Rebuking sin is not equal to turning away a sinner.
I've watched this whole video and went back to the 8:00 (minute) mark. Karen refuses to repent for her lifestyle. If she's done nothing wrong, then there's nothing to repent for and that should be her argument back. However, it's not. Her argument back is a flat out refusal to repent. The bible clearly states the consequences for that decision. I also noticed that (9:34) mark she stated that "I just don't want you to tell me that I can't have one." She's missing the mark here because the "you" she's referring to are the believers on the other side of the table/debate. However, they're not the ones saying she's wrong for the relationship she's in, they're simply following God's word. This tells me that Karen actually has a problem with God's standard for marriage and refuses to turn from that. That's her choice, but with that come consequences.

Whenever this subject is debated I'm always struck by how disingenuous and brazenly manipulative the pro-homosexuality advocates are. You see same sex couples where both individuals are clearly kind, decent, caring people who believe in Jesus and the gospel. They fully appreciate the love that Jesus has for all and in that spirit ask in heartfelt terms - how can it be wrong for us to love each other? How can it be a sin against God to spend your life with the person that you love? Are we really sinners for simply being homosexual - for being that which God created us to be? Are we to spend our lives alone because of it? If you are a compassionate Christian it's hard not to be moved when the argument is put in these terms - that's why they do it. But the real issue here is not one of love - forbidden or otherwise. Being attracted to members of your own gender - not a sin. Loving somebody of your own gender - not a sin. Spending your life with someone of your own gender - not a sin. So what's the problem? Well the problem is that when they say "I love my partner and I want to be with them" they actually mean I want to have sex with my same sex partner. That's what it all comes down to. They know that in the Bible God forbids it and that obviously they can't persuade God to change his mind. But their desire to have sex is so strong that they're going to do it anyway and in order to make themselves feel justified in their sin they want the Church to say that it's ok and to sanction same sex unions. Basically they'd prefer to go to condemnation taking the whole Church with them rather than resist their urge to have sex. Keep this is in mind the next time this issue comes up and the homosexual lobby tries to pull on your emotional heartstrings.

This is so confusing for me as a heterosexual Christian. I'm torn. I want the truth. I can only imagine the struggle of homosexuals who love God. How is it okay for us to not allow them to love God. I feel like we are saying "No, your not worthy of Christ's love." I just want to know if God will accept a homosexual into his kingdom. It sounds like a terribly immature and stupid question but to me it is a concern because although it doesn't affect me it affects people I care about. I want to be able to lead others into the truth but I need to know the truth in order to do that. I know of gay couples who are Christians and I kind of think well how can it be wrong then? But then I know of homosexuals that are Christians and they believe that it's wrong themselves. So who has the truth??? I see many Christians doing wrong things and I do myself. Jesus never came to abolish God's law, he came to uphold it. Because of sin we were all condemned by God's law, we were all in debt for our sin and faced punishment, that is why God came in the flesh (Jesus) and took our punishment and paid for our sin and rose again to set us free from death (Hell) releasing us from the consequences of the Law, by taking the punishment of death on himself, that is how much he loves you and me, no matter how much he is rejected and scoffed. Never once did Jesus say anything about Homosexuality! The word Homosexuality is not mentioned until 1946 in any Bible. It is only mentioned when changes appeared in the written word. In the King James Bible, the word Homosexuality is not mentioned Once, Love is mentioned 310 times. Most Bibles have 67 books in it, yet Catholics have some more, but what about the books missing fro0m the Bible? There is no Book of Noah, but more importantly, why is there no book of JUDAS? (See the Dead Sea Scrolls). What if the Angels that were in SODOM were female angels, the whole interpretation of Sodom and Gomorrah, is different. If you believe in the totality of the word of the Bible, then Adam and Eve being the only people created by God, we were all thereafter born of incest. Think also about how many women are mentioned in the Bible, for your evaluation.

Because doctrine is not objective truth. There's always assumptions and deductions and interpretations happening. How do you justify the trinity for example, or what do you mean by salvation?
@@joshuaboulton1343 Sound doctrine is not objective truth. It's based on assumptions that cannot be justified but only accepted by faith. Different Christians will have different assumptions. Then it requires deductions from those assumptions. This is not foolproof. Look at history of the church and you'll see lots of people have made differing deductions on a range of issues. Then it usually requires huge amounts of interpretation. If your starting point is the Bible, then it's a collection of documents each written to address a particular need or issue. While some of those issues overlap ours, many do not. We have to sometimes guess their underlying beliefs, values and principles and decide which hold today and which do not.

It has resulted in people losing their faith, their health, their sanity, their families, even their lives. This has to stop. And you know what, the Bible does not even talk about it. Yes, men slept with men and women with women, but the concept of lumping them together into one category is a recent one, and the doctrine that it's a sin specifically because it's with the "same secs" is even more recent. I personally accept it as scripture that we should trust as God's word, but we need to understand it terms of what the original writers were seeking to communicate to their original readers, not lift texts or parts of texts and interpret them as if they were written for today. I'm sure you do this all the time. When Paul talks about wives submitting to their husbands and Peter talks about women as weaker, do we hold such patriarchal values today? They were based on the cultural assumption that women were inferior to men. The gospel started us on a journey to correct that wrong, but it still shows itself in the pages of the new testament. Similarly, do you think it's right to tell slaivs to obey their owners? Do you think it's right to tell women not to utter a sound in church? We gladly disobey these instructions today, because we have different values. What ultimately counts is faith working itself out in love.

No one can deny the truth of scripture. Jesus destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. He was God then and He is God now. Also, women are forbidden to preach. We don’t like some of the Bible sometimes but we obey. He is coming back and we will stand before Him. 😊

I'm glad we changed the law in America to make slavery illegal. I'm glad we changed the laws to make women equal, despite the Bible saying they are not. I'm glad American law allowed gay marriage, and that many churches will allow and bless the marriages. Laws change all the time, some of which directly contradict the Bible but work out well. Slavery was only allowed for up to seven years, and then you had to set your slaves free as equals, so it wouldn’t be right to mistreat them when they were slaves so they could mistreat you later. It also goes against love your neighbor as yourself, which I think is where women’s equality comes from. Between love thy neighbor as thyself, and men and women becoming one flesh with marriage, I think there’s more evidence to put women on equal footing with men than Paul thought. Men and women think differently, and are anatomically different, but both are made in the image of God. One is not superior to the other outright. The Bible also says the world will go against Christians. This is also why separation of church and state is not only important to a government, but to Christianity as well. Just because our government makes a law and puts it into place does not mean that churches and religions must conform to that law. God made men and women to be together. It’s how we have survived as His people since the creation in Eden. Making a mockery of the most sacred bond (besides with God) that someone has by saying that it can be any man or any woman or any xeman or fishman or what have you is not what God meant for us. Hamurabi's law is an even older and more firm foundation of law, that actually has more in common with today's laws than the bible. No one will force your church to perform gay marriages, and your churches shouldn't be allowed to define what the state recognizes as marriage. I don't go to college in search of wealth, I go in search of knowledge, and to be able to make it into the field that I truly desire being in. All money aside, I want to wake up and be able to sustain my life by doing something I love to do. Money is an object which humans require to survive in our world, not some prized possession that I feel the need to flaunt around. I am perfectly okay with only making enough to sustain a simple life. Any time I make more than what I need, I am even overzealously generous, both with my peers and by doing community service (not to sound self-righteous or anything). My point is that many wealthy christians not only refrain from giving to their churches, but they also refrain from giving to people who ACTUALLY NEED some help, an extra push to get them back on their feet.
You're right, it's outrageous that in this day and age people spend time debating immutable traits that someone is born with like homosexuality. It's intellectually dishonest also to group homosexuality with 'adultery, murder, stealing'. At around 17:15, Rev Karen Booth prayed that "God would prevent the United Methodist Church from ever becoming such a denomination". She did not pray that God's will be done in this matter. That speaks volumes to me, as a British Methodist: Those who wish to enforce the old view of homosexuality as a sin on those for whom it is an issue (not for themselves) are not interested in whether God thinks it is a sin. They believe He does, and that is good enough for them to want to force it on others. That is not good enough for me. Those who know homosexuality for themselves know it is not a choice, but is the way that God created them. He had a purpose in doing so, and He loves them. No-one would argue with that. Maybe it has taken us 2,000 years to understand what Jesus meant by acceptance of everyone, regardless of their situation, what they've done, who they are. Maybe this is what God wants us to change now that, at last, we understand.

Now, I don’t claim to be an expert on this, so feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t it say in that famous passage ‘Man shall not lie with man’ or something along those lines (I can’t quote it word for word, I don’t actually have my own bible). Wasn’t it originally ‘man shall not lie with a child’? It was some fancy Latin or Hebrew word that I can’t spell, but it basically meant don’t commit pedophilia, not it’s wrong to be gay. It was altered later on to conform to the ideals of the time and was simply never changed back. Also, what about those who aren’t religious? They don’t need to follow the church, so what do they care? I came from a very religious family, and my mother (a minister) actually fought FOR LGBT rights in my home city, credit to her. If homosexuality is truly a sin, you would let your god judge them. You wouldn’t do it yourself. Remember Jesus’ catchphrase, ‘Love thy neighbour’? What right do we have to change Gods word?, the word that was given to us to guide us home, yes I'm gay but I can't support it and yes I'm willing to change. We can't allow sin in the church.
But you know you can't change. It's a fact of you were born Gay and that's how God wanted you to be. People still love you, God still loves you. You are still just as normal a person as a straight person.
Who changed God's words? The word homosexual was never in the Bible until there was a "modern paraphrase". A paraphrase is not a literal translation. It can alter the meaning. The original wording of Romans Ch. 1 in the Bible used words that translated to: temple prostitutes, male temple prostitutes, and those who used temple prostitutes. Paul was talking about pagan churches and their rituals. One of those rituals involved prostitution in the temple. A way for their "church" to raise money I suppose. The second half of Romans 1 includes a laundry list of other sins. Then in the King James version the author crates a bridge into Chapter 2 by saying: "Therefore who are you to judge for you have done many of the same things." So stop judging people with malice.
Right off the bat, I saw two things wrong. 1. Women are not called to pastorship. 2. Doing the “right thing” is defending scriptural truth by holding to the view that marriage is between one man and one woman and that divorce is a sin.

Same Sex Marriage effects Children's right to know their biological mother and father. Of course there are many couples that do not have children, for many reasons. Let's remember, in Heaven, there is no more marriage's like what we recognise on earth. In fact, as a church, we are the bride and Jesus is the Bridegroom. (Revelation )

I tried to be straight once because I felt forced by my church but sex with men repulsed me, I would just kind of lay there and disassociate until it was over( felt like rape), no connection whatsoever. There's nothing confusing about any of this. It's crystal clear as day the Bible condemns any and all acts of sodomy, sexual deviancy, and homosexuality. "Love the sinner, hate the sin" is a nice way of thinking in theory; however, most times our hate for the sin also causes hate for the sinner. It is difficult for people to love someone but hate something that is such a big part of their lives.

I've watched this whole video and went back to the 8:00 (minute) mark. Karen refuses to repent for her lifestyle. If she's done nothing wrong, then there's nothing to repent for and that should be her argument back. However, it's not. Her argument back is a flat out refusal to repent. The bible clearly states the consequences for that decision. I also noticed that (9:34) mark she stated that "I just don't want you to tell me that I can't have one." She's missing the mark here because the "you" she's referring to are the believers on the other side of the table/debate. However, they're not the ones saying she's wrong for the relationship she's in, they're simply following God's word. This tells me that Karen actually has a problem with God's standard for marriage and refuses to turn from that. That's her choice, but with that come consequences.

Whenever this subject is debated I'm always struck by how disingenuous and brazenly manipulative the pro-homosexuality advocates are.
You see same sex couples where both individuals are clearly kind, decent, caring people who believe in Jesus and the gospel. They fully appreciate the love that Jesus has for all and in that spirit ask in heartfelt terms - how can it be wrong for us to love each other? How can it be a sin against God to spend your life with the person that you love? Are we really sinners for simply being homosexual - for being that which God created us to be? Are we to spend our lives alone because of it?
If you are a compassionate Christian it's hard not to be moved when the argument is put in these terms - that's why they do it. But the real issue here is not one of love - forbidden or otherwise.
Being attracted to members of your own gender - not a sin.
Loving somebody of your own gender - not a sin.
Spending your life with someone of your own gender - not a sin.
So what's the problem?
Well the problem is that when they say "I love my partner and I want to be with them" they actually mean I want to have sex with my same sex partner. That's what it all comes down to. They know that in the Bible God forbids it and that obviously they can't persuade God to change his mind.
But their desire to have sex is so strong that they're going to do it anyway and in order to make themselves feel justified in their sin they want the Church to say that it's ok and to sanction same sex unions. Basically they'd prefer to go to condemnation taking the whole Church with them rather than resist their urge to have sex.
Keep this is in mind the next time this issue comes up and the homosexual lobby tries to pull on your emotional heartstrings.

This is so confusing for me as a heterosexual Christian. I'm torn. I want the truth. I can only imagine the struggle of homosexuals who love God. How is it okay for us to not allow them to love God. I feel like we are saying "No, your not worthy of Christ's love." I just want to know if God will accept a homosexual into his kingdom. It sounds like a terribly immature and stupid question but to me it is a concern because although it doesn't affect me it affects people I care about. I want to be able to lead others into the truth but I need to know the truth in order to do that. I know of gay couples who are Christians and I kind of think well how can it be wrong then? Never once did Jesus say anything about Homosexuality! The word Homosexuality is not mentioned until 1946 in any Bible. It is only mentioned when changes appeared in the written word. In the King James Bible, the word Homosexuality is not mentioned Once, Love is mentioned 310 times. Most Bibles have 67 books in it, yet Catholics have some more, but what about the books missing fro0m the Bible? There is no Book of Noah, but more importantly, why is there no book of JUDAS? (See the Dead Sea Scrolls). What if the Angels that were in SODOM were female angels, the whole interpretation of Sodom and Gomorrah, is different. If you believe in the totality of the word of the Bible, then Adam and Eve being the only people created by God, we were all thereafter born of incest. Think also about how many women are mentioned in the Bible, for your evaluation.

Homosexuality in the Bible
Leviticus 20:13 (cf. 18:22) declares it abominable for a man to lie with another man as with a woman, and both partners are to be executed. Because doctrine is not objective truth. There's always assumptions and deductions and interpretations happening. How do you justify the trinity for example, or what do you mean by salvation?

It's based on assumptions that cannot be justified but only accepted by faith. Different Christians will have different assumptions.
Then it requires deductions from those assumptions. This is not foolproof. Look at history of the church and you'll see lots of people have made differing deductions on a range of issues.
Then it usually requires huge amounts of interpretation. If your starting point is the Bible, then it's a collection of documents each written to address a particular need or issue. While some of those issues overlap ours, many do not. We have to sometimes guess their underlying beliefs, values and principles and decide which hold today and which do not.

And you know what, the Bible does not even talk about it. There was no concept of a "same-secs" act until around a century ago. Yes, men slept with men and women with women, but the concept of lumping them together into one category is a recent one, and the doctrine that it's a sin specifically because it's with the "same secs" is even more recent. It's NOT in the Bible.
Put these things together, and I think you'll appreciate that what's not for debate is any view that is against it.

I personally accept it as scripture that we should trust as God's word, but we need to understand it terms of what the original writers were seeking to communicate to their original readers, not lift texts or parts of texts and interpret them as if they were written for today.
I'm sure you do this all the time. When Paul talks about wives submitting to their husbands and Peter talks about women as weaker, do we hold such patriarchal values today? They were based on the cultural assumption that women were inferior to men. The gospel started us on a journey to correct that wrong, but it still shows itself in the pages of the new testament.
Similarly, do you think it's right to tell slaivs to obey their owners? Do you think it's right to tell women not to utter a sound in church? We gladly disobey these instructions today, because we have different values. What ultimately counts is faith working itself out in love.

I'm glad we changed the law in America to make slavery illegal. I'm glad we changed the laws to make women equal, despite the Bible saying they are not. Slavery was only allowed for up to seven years, and then you had to set your slaves free as equals, so it wouldn’t be right to mistreat them when they were slaves so they could mistreat you later. It also goes against love your neighbor as yourself, which I think is where women’s equality comes from. Between love thy neighbor as thyself, and men and women becoming one flesh with marriage, I think there’s more evidence to put women on equal footing with men than Paul thought. Men and women think differently, and are anatomically different, but both are made in the image of God. One is not superior to the other outright. The Bible also says the world will go against Christians. This is also why separation of church and state is not only important to a government, but to Christianity as well. Just because our government makes a law and puts it into place does not mean that churches and religions must conform to that law. God made men and women to be together. It’s how we have survived as His people since the creation in Eden. Making a mockery of the most sacred bond (besides with God) that someone has by saying that it can be any man or any woman or any xeman or fishman or what have you is not what God meant for us. It kills Him to watch us destroy ourselves and destroy the institutions He laid out for us in the beginning. It kills Him to watch us rob ourselves of joy and freedom.

Hamurabi's law is an even older and more firm foundation of law, that actually has more in common with today's laws than the bible. The bible was definitely a book written as both fiction and a way to govern ancient civilizations, as well as to explain things they didn't understand, that we do understand today, by coming up with an almighty deity. That's why the oldest version of the bible is different than today's version, and why there are hundreds of different versions. People altered it at different times to suit them. It was also made that way, fashioned by people's minds and that's very obvious when you look at it objectively. The bible is also just an altered version of the same stories that people passed on from ancient times, stories involving other gods and places, dating back to about 6000bc, to the Sumers. It didn't just suddenly appear when the book itself claims to have appeared. Also, so many ancient figures existed and we haven't found their bones. Does that mean they were all gods? I don't think so.

Just a little advice...stop caring so much. This issue has been completely overemphasized by the church. No one will force your church to perform gay marriages, and your churches shouldn't be allowed to define what the state recognizes as marriage. Have we all forgotten about the separation of church and state? No matter what your beliefs on this issue, just quit blowing this issue up bigger than it needs to be. I swear, religion talks about greed and money WAY more than homosexuality, yet you see lots of incredibly wealthy religious people who NEVER give back to their communities, all the while detesting the morality of people that love others of the same sex. I don't go to college in search of wealth, I go in search of knowledge, and to be able to make it into the field that I truly desire being in. All money aside, I want to wake up and be able to sustain my life by doing something I love to do. Money is an object which humans require to survive in our world, not some prized possession that I feel the need to flaunt around. I am perfectly okay with only making enough to sustain a simple life. Any time I make more than what I need, I am even overzealously generous, both with my peers and by doing community service (not to sound self-righteous or anything). My point is that many wealthy christians not only refrain from giving to their churches, but they also refrain from giving to people who ACTUALLY NEED some help, an extra push to get them back on their feet.

You're right, it's outrageous that in this day and age people spend time debating immutable traits that someone is born with like homosexuality. It's intellectually dishonest also to group homosexuality with 'adultery, murder, stealing'. At around 17:15, Rev Karen Booth prayed that "God would prevent the United Methodist Church from ever becoming such a denomination". She did not pray that God's will be done in this matter. That speaks volumes to me, as a British Methodist: Those who wish to enforce the old view of homosexuality as a sin on those for whom it is an issue (not for themselves) are not interested in whether God thinks it is a sin. They believe He does, and that is good enough for them to want to force it on others. That is not good enough for me. Those who know homosexuality for themselves know it is not a choice, but is the way that God created them. He had a purpose in doing so, and He loves them. No-one would argue with that. Maybe it has taken us 2,000 years to understand what Jesus meant by acceptance of everyone, regardless of their situation, what they've done, who they are. Maybe this is what God wants us to change now that, at last, we understand.
With so many problems around the world, from people with inadequate health care and housing, to corruption and crony capitalism, why is it that this one subject causes more noise and bluster and overheated rhetoric than any other issue? No wonder that religions are becoming increasingly irrelevant in countries with high levels of education.

Now, I don’t claim to be an expert on this, so feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t it say in that famous passage ‘Man shall not lie with man’ or something along those lines (I can’t quote it word for word, I don’t actually have my own bible).
Wasn’t it originally ‘man shall not lie with a child’? It was some fancy Latin or Hebrew word that I can’t spell, but it basically meant don’t commit pedophilia, not it’s wrong to be gay. It was altered later on to conform to the ideals of the time and was simply never changed back.
Also, what about those who aren’t religious? They don’t need to follow the church, so what do they care? I came from a very religious family, and my mother (a minister) actually fought FOR LGBT rights in my home city, credit to her.
If homosexuality is truly a sin, you would let your god judge them. You wouldn’t do it yourself. Remember Jesus’ catchphrase, ‘Love thy neighbour’? How about putting it into practice and letting your god do the judging?

Who changed God's words? The word homosexual was never in the Bible until there was a "modern paraphrase". A paraphrase is not a literal translation. It can alter the meaning.
The original wording of Romans Ch. 1 in the Bible used words that translated to: temple prostitutes, male temple prostitutes, and those who used temple prostitutes. Paul was talking about pagan churches and their rituals. One of those rituals involved prostitution in the temple. A way for their "church" to raise money I suppose.
The second half of Romans 1 includes a laundry list of other sins. Then in the King James version the author crates a bridge into Chapter 2 by saying: "Therefore who are you to judge for you have done many of the same things."
So stop judging people with malice.

1. Women are not called to pastorship.
2. Doing the “right thing” is defending scriptural truth by holding to the view that marriage is between one man and one woman and that divorce is a sin.
1 Not all churches practice secsual discrimination in the workplace. But I guess you're talking about quite a few that forbid women pastors. Shocking isn't it, it's the 21st cent.

The Bible says "in Christ there is no male and female" (Gal 3); "if your gift is teaching, then teach" (Rom 12). 1 Tim is advice in a 1st cent patriarchal context where men might not follow gospel principles and respect women. Even so, there are instances of women in positions of authority in the new testament. In the present era when we know that treating women as inferior is wrong, to refuse women certain positions is workplace discrimination. It's immoral. Churches that practice it need to repent.
As for same-secs marriage, I came to a similar conclusion as Vines independently through my own study of the scriptures, as have others. The idea that same-secs attraction is a form of Iust to overcome has been discredited scientifically, scripturally and morally.
The idea is evil, having done nothing but incredibly harm. It is not a mere matter of "fitting personal feelings". Innocent people - especially children - have been subjected to anguish, depreshon, rejection by family, homelessness, loss of faith, sue-side, and more. Same Sex Marriage effects Children's right to know their biological mother and father. Of course there are many couples that do not have children, for many reasons. Let's remember, in Heaven, there is no more marriage's like what we recognise on earth. In fact, as a church, we are the bride and Jesus is the Bridegroom. (Revelation )
