Fast, Feminine Ear Warmer by Diana Sullivan - No sewing! Main bed only!

- Diana Sullivan teaches a quick, beautiful headband/ear warmer that requires less than 2 ounces of yarn. It's done on a bulky machine with a simple tuck stitch, and the assembly of the knotted front is done on the machine - now sewing!

At about 11:10 in the video, I have an edge loop. I might normally unravel that row and knit it again, but I pulled the slack out a stitch at a time since it was only ten stitches and since it's the last row. I am getting some comments that this mistake and fix was interesting - and I left it in the video because I didn't want to bother unraveling! Thanks for you comments! I need your comments so I can understand what's useful in a video. One of these days I might do a boo-boo video and justs show fixes...
A boo-boo fixing video would be very helpful. Also, I would like to knit with fancier yarns like mohair, silk, or wool, but I have no idea how to wash them... So I'm stuck with acrylics that I can clean in the washing machine. Would you create a video showing us how to care for projects made from delicate yarns? I mean what kind of detergent to use, how to move our hands over the wet fabric, how to lay them to dry, etc.? Please show and explain us everything like we're 4 years old, because everyone else is just saying "hand wash and flat dry" your knits, but they never show us HOW! :)
It's something to think about. What I do is not what other people do. I have a washing machine with a very gentle cycle, and I can wash a delicate sweater in cold on that cycle and in a bag. Then the dryer has a rack. I can carefully fold the sweater and puti it on the rack. The dryer will blow air but the sweater sits there to dry, no tumbling. I don't use a lot of delicate fibers, though, unless I'm already confident of the yarn. Wools and natural fibers come in grades like anything else, from scratchy straw to butter soft, and they can have different twists and finishing. So - buy a ball, wash and dry it, see what you're getting into before you invesst in a lot of fancy yarn.
@@dianaknits Thank you for your answer. I'm sure it'll help someone who has an advanced washing machine and a dryer. :) We are poor people in a poor country, my only option is to learn hand washing somehow.
@@SuperPeppi You simply put it in a bucket with very gentle soap, squish it around very little, squeeze the water our very gently, and dry it flat on a towel. You will need to turn it to get it to dry, and change the towel.
LOVE it! I haven't knitted in so long, I'd forgotten how much I love watching the videos. THANKS!
So glad you like it! These knit up so fast that we used it as a demo at a makers' faire.
@@dianaknits I just remembered, last night, I may have some mohair. Maybe this weekend, I can test my ribs and make one. Thanks!
Brilliant! I have seen these ear warmers everywhere, but this is the first time I have seen such a unique finish on the machine. Thank you for posting this.
Thank you for the "bonus" lesson in removing a loop. When I would get then it usually involved tears. I had no idea there was a quick way to remove them. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Just wanted to pop by and say thank you for all your videos, you are so generous and I have learned so much from you, thank you ♥
Glad I found you again. I have several machines and lots of yarn to knit up for charity will be fun and quick.
This is gorgeous Diana. Oh how I wish I had my singer😭😭😭 now I have a Sentro. But I love watching your tutorials
Diana this was a great video. Thank AKA Madonna
Fantastic just love this thankyou x
Beautiful and I have some mohair ends to use up too 👍❤🇬🇧
2 things I just learned, using the machine to sew these together, and a fast way to resolve that pesky loop at the beginning of a row.
Thank you!
What a nice pattern! Can you tell me your approximate gauge and/or finished length and width of the band (before turnings)? I have only a 4.5 pitch or a Bond to work with. Thanks!
My Bond isn't very good at tuck, so I'd use the standard gauge. You might try every other needle. The length is about 17" unstretched and the width is 7", again, unstretched. The yarn I used is a very thin, fluffy mohair and knits up about like a DK since it has so much fluff.
Nice finish on the machine. Just to be sure, you are rehanging the main yarn on the needles and not the waste yarn. It is hard to see it in the video but this has to be what you are doing. Will try this for sure.
Yes, rehang the project yarn, not the waste yarn.
Looks so pretty. Am wondering if might be itching at neck or ears? Will see what I have that isnt too "slippery" and feels good to face and neck. Wonder if can do this on my K350 brother. will try. Thankyou
Mohair varies in texture. It is graded in microns, and this must be a very high-end mohair as it is not itchy at all. Plus, it goes over your hair.
Diana, what is the estimated length of the 160 rows? I'm asking in case I use a yarn that is not as thin/thick as yours. I don't want to end up with a too big/small headband. Thank you so much.
It's about 20", relaxed.
Hello, which number of this point lace of brother catalog please ? It’s possible to use the point lace of stick book brother ? And mohair is only with 9mm knitting machine ? Thank you 🙏🏻
It is tuck stitch, not lace. Stitch world 256 double height would work or a birdseye card on double height. .
@ okay and only with knitting machine 9mm? Not with a silver reed standard ? Thank you
@@Tmm5996 This was made with a 9 mm machine. You could use this idea on every other needle on a standard, or you could resize the project to work on a standard.
Would this work out same using 43 stitches on standard gauge machine using this pattern
I don't know, but you could figure it out by knitting a sample. You need a good width for a nice look and you also need just the right length so it goes around the head and fits just snugly enough to stay in place.
Por favor me indican cuantas filas hace
