You're thinking of "PCU"... PACU is post anesthesia care unit so post surgery recovery. PCU is progressive care unit which is too sick for the MS floor & not sick enough for ICU. I work PCU & those patients you really have to watch because many times they are right on the cusp.
@@sheenawinfrey3133thats awesome, at my hospital there isnt a PCU, we just keep keep em and try to fix em til they're about to code....then transfer to the ICU. Ya know, the transfer we asked for hours beforehand because were not stupid and knew that was going to happen. K rant over, thanks
I know this is a joke, but I don't know what PACU you've seen. My management just ignores ASPAN guidelines, makes pregnant women having contractions continue to work, and just treat everyone like crap in general so. . .
Pacu in my hospital is a coveted position for nurses because it’s wonderful lol. It’s almost always staffed and nurses do in fact get their well deserved breaks. Def a more cushy position at my hospital anyway. 😅
I wish, I'm the most senior nurse in my unit. I haven't even been there 2 years. I totally get that it's usually a position that people don't leave until they retire, but not us.
@@jordanparks9615 I’m sorry you’re in a crappy place like that. But as somebody who has worked emerge, MedSurg, etc. I can’t even count how many times I’ve been called to get an admission from PACU onto the floor….. unit clerk comes and finds me to get report. I’m up to my elbows in some sort of disgusting wound or trying to give meds to somebody who’s getting super aggressive. I say “tell them I’ll call them back in five”. I called back 5 to 10 minutes later and I swear to God half the time it’s like “oh they just went on break.”🤣. So it sounds like you just have a shitty workplace, but in most hospitals, pack, he was considered one of the nicest places to work. And the attitude that Blake is giving is reflecting that. Because we are all low-key jealous that you have that job.🤣
I know hes supposed to be funny, but honestly, he comes across as condescending... I had honestly thought about going to see one of his shows, but honestly most of the clips that Ive seen for his tour all come across this way.
But he is saying stuff that is spot on for the culture of nursing! The whole PACU thing .. yeah, that’s is certainly the thought in the hospitals I have worked at .. ‘PACU, yeah, they just wake up patients .. not nursing.’ And you bet!! People outside of medicine have no idea what we go through! I have to call my nursing friends to vent all my frustration, because family & others, just don’t get it.
@jeannemarie5908 True, most have no idea what it's like working in healthcare. I'm a nurse, and so I can speak on this matter. However, one can still do it, and be actually funny not condescending about it.
@@sheenawinfrey3133 I agree with you and can understand where you are coming from. I think part of the reason I think he is so darned hilarious is because he IS condescending .. when I worked ICU at an educational hospital .. MANY ICU and ED nurses have this condescending attitude so the satire nature of his humor busts me up!! But I understand where you are coming from. I have thought about going to one of his shows .. but I am not sure I could stand to be around THAT MANY nurses!!! ROFL .. and certainly NOT on a SHIP for extended time!! 😅😂🤣
Hmm, i am a pacu nurse and we take all the patients!!! Even all the ICU patients! You guys are bitter because it’s hard to become be a pacu nurse!!! Not a fan anymore!!
Kinda bummed I spent money on his NurseCon now. Was ER/ICU for 18 years and moved to PACU because of the incredible amount of direct observation required. Extubation, anesthesia sickness, electrolyte management. Feels a lot like my ICU. To be told it's not real nursing sounds a little condescending.
That was my first reaction too. I’m not a nurse but have spent countless months with many of them for over a decade while caring for my medically complicated kiddo. There’s some shitty ones, but some truly amazing ones as well. I thought, well maybe it’s not my place to feel second hand disappointment in the jokes, but I’ve heard other nurses with your sentiment. *For those who say, “but jokes…” I get it, but they get dogged on enough by others. It’s kinda sad for one of them own to do it to their own.
I want to say thank you to all the amazing nurses out there, regardless of what unit you’re in!💞
You get lunches and breaks. Must be nice😅😅
If he flys air planes he’s a “P”iolot…that’s a profession that starts with P…and forbidden. 🤣
Delta 😂😂😂. Love it!!!!
You're funny❤
Stevieo is in ER. He makes some snappy videos too.
Huh
Blake I'm a LTC snf nurse. Have u ever ventured to the abyss 🤣🤣🤣
I was told by a nurse before PACU is just babysitting until the floor has a bed😮 I always thought pacu was too well for icu to sick for the floor
