I picked up one after seeing so many positive reviews on UA-cam. I guess I got a lemon. Before I changed the esc and motor, it would come to a dead stop in grass, forget crawling anything. Absolutely no slow crawl unless you are on level ground with no obstructions. The motor got so hot after just 5 minutes of running, that it warped the transmission motor plate. It constantly strips the ring gear in the 3rd axle. I'm about ready to swap all the major driveline components over to SCX24.
I just got one today. First up.. I really like it. It looks super sharp. It does have its flaws, though. Compared to an SCX24... the motor is very noisy. The turning radius is terrible. The tires are OKAY on rocks but terrible in loose dirt. It needs more flex; a bit of a lift would help. I just ordered some 42-44 mm oil emulsion shocks for it. It couldn't climb a dirt hill that my SCX24 Gladiator did totally stock. But that's okay... it's a slick little unit that I'll have fun lightly modding.
@@Avad-ez5iq I returned mine since I could (Amazon). I prefer 1/10th scale. It can probably be modified to work well, so it comes down to if you just want something to drive or if you like to mod it and tinker.
I absolutely love mine, I modified my front bumper to 14grams, spectrum firma all in one esc, fast eddy bearings, 3d printed flatbed, with winch, add foam to the tires, weights to the suspension links in front. Video to come soon :)
@@OnizukaGTO I would go back down to a smaller tire size until, the you can get metal gears in the transmission then you can go nuts and go brushless even, but a good brushed upgraded would go well with a 2 speed tranny in this thing or a good metal gears. Otherwise, I'd take it easy expect those plastic gears move the big 6 tires that are now all bigger.
You seem to know about motors, (I'm an old hand that just jumped back in) is there any motors you can suggest to upgrade into this beast? Seems like upgrading my tyres to bigger ones and changing shock / springs, made my atlas seem to stall a lot easier.
@@OnizukaGTO Everything has a knock-on effect so you have to be careful with how big of a motor you put in the Atlas. Currently I have a 51 turn Panda Hobby 180 motor installed as it is very nearly a direct fit. If you order the motor from Panda Hobby, make sure you order the aluminum adapter as it comes separately now. With the higher torque motor, I find the front driveshaft is popping out of the U-joint. I am going to install a metal driveshaft from WPL to fix that issue. I also replaced the ESC and receiver as I could not stand the sound of the stock Atlas...it reminded me of a 90's fax machine. Finally, the other option you can do for motors is to order a motor skid from shapeways. That will allow you to run the transmission from an SCX24. This will allow you to run any of the aftermarket motors available for the SCX24 (as long as you purchase the appropriate motor mount). Furitek produces a mount, brushless motor and ESC kit that is a direct fit for the SCX24 transmission. There is also a 370 motor mount for the SCX24 that you can purchase from shapeways as well. Lots of options if you are willing to put in the work and deal with any of the issues that pop up because of the added torque.
So I really wanted to like this mini crawler. I got it with super excited but was pretty let down after it’s stripped one of the differential gears in 15 minutes of use. Back to Amazon it goes
Great review, I have been wanting one of these for a while now, and now want one even more. The under water scene the Rig could have done with a hole in the body shell to allow air out so all 6 tyres would have contact with the river bed.
Good little crawler. Unfortunately I had to replace the motor in mine because the winding wasn’t done right and got jammed between the rotor and case. Quick fix though and it’s back up and running.
I have this great looking 6x6 but can not get it ti go forward or backwards. The steering works great. I tried adjusting the trim no luck. Any idea? It did work fine till after I charged the battery up and rhen no go. Waiting to here from fms on this but I thought I would give this a try.
Oh! Cheers for this bit of info! That might explain why after replacing stock tyres with bigger ones and change shock height!/springs, seems like it stalls on climbs where it was fine, I have noticed the drive shaft extended further then usual
Hi Greg! You probably don’t remember me but I was one of the guys at the track that wanted a selfie with you. Lol I was wondering if you’d like to go crawling with me and some of the crew from the old hobby hangout? I’ve got John and Craig on board. If your interested id love love to hear back from you Thanks dude!
Just the video i needed to decide to buy one🥰. Would be a good complement to ma ultra bashing fleet. May i ask, any idea where 1/18 scale crawler hopups/stylung parts can be bought, and stock parts. Thank you for an amazing video /T
I ordered two of these things last year when they were on sale, thinking I would play with them with my two young nephews. I charged the battery on one and ran it in my living room, it wouldn't even climb up a stack of books it was so weak. I lost interest, they've been sitting in my closet ever since.
YES. Love the Atlas, I run it around my garden and sidewalk all the time. A lot of people stop to check it out
This little beast pulled me back into RC's after a 23yr absents. Cheers for the review and purchase justification. Ha.
That is a tough little beast. I love how the front wheels were dragging it along in the underwater shot. Nothing seems to stop it!
That one fall/roll was epic!
Even better now at 111.99!!!! small upgrades like shocks for sure
It's a awesome little truck You take the front bumper guard off, The the the hood will flip wide open for you It's awesome,

I've been after one of those little buggers for some time... and your review has just affirmed how much I need one in my (RC) life! Thank you. :)
Pretty impressive. Especially when you dunked it. I can see why people like it. Thanks!
Thank you for reviewing this rig.! I've been swo curious about it! Thanks again!
They are pretty cool. I have the Red one. I swapped all the electronics from my panda power wagon and swapped in a scx24 electronics !!!

With all the problems that you have with the atlas do you still recommend it to beginners?

After replacing rx/esc, have you thought about replacing the motor?
After swapping my tyres for bigger ones, climbing seems a little weaker

Nice video! Just ordered one cause it looks fun and love the way it looks!
Enjoy!
It is an '050' motor. (FF050SH-1855). Funnily enough I am currently retro-fitting a Panda Hobby 180 motor into mine while watching this video!

Me who has no experience of RC: hmmm....interesting....
Just do it!
I got mine today, sending it back. Slow and weak. Do yourself a favor. Get a panda hobby 6x6
Only thing I don't like is the steering radius is very wide.
Other than that I like mine.
Excellent video!
Flipped Rc4wd Steelies on cut Mud slingers
Take front bumper off
OX motor
👌🏼
Do you bnow what upgrade we can put on it?

Nice review, thanks. Did you do any mods? Particularly shocks?
The toolbox in the bed is to store an extra battery.
I need to kitbash the rear end of this thing so I can reenact Sorcerer in my backyard.
Is it hard to get spare parts for this one in 2024?
Hell yeah it is fun!
Love mine, fun little truck, my only complaint is the drive shafts twist too easy

Man, got this on sale and love my other FMS but this is so weak! Very small things get it hung and it lacks the power to get out
i give 60 buck to 80 for one in that size but no more unless it was special /metal everywhere
cool crawler👍👍👍

cool video my friend keep it up 👍🚙🎥
How would you compare this to the Panda Hobby 6x6?
I own a panda 4x4 and 6x6. This came today. It's gutless and week. Sending it back.
Nice place 😊

Nice car
I made this mistake of buying a 1/18 scale crawler, now I cant stop thinking of getting a 1/10 scale.
Great little truck I would rather have a slower speed and more torque
I want one🙂
Gosh dang it. I was trying to avoid this…guess not although Im not a fan of these tiny motors. Caught that pun, “meat of the video”
I think mine was closer to a $170
Hi
U guys get them rc for free which is great my only problem u guys never talk the over pricing most rc too expensive over price
Maaaaaaamamamamamaamaaaa
