I would file a police report. If you don't get the jewelry back, you'll will have a record to use for a deduction on your tax returns.
Oh yes! That's something I hadn't thought of.
My husband is a retired Phoenix Sgt. Please report the theft, because if no one reports them, they will never be caught. I know that you may not get your stuff back, but eventually they will catch them, as long as thefts are being reported. He also said, he would not put things out for pick up again, as once they find a place to get free stuff, they will definitely be back!
I don't even leave packages overnight in my vehicle for drop off in the mornings on my way to work. So much theft by people trolling neighborhoods at night and looking in vehicles and if you leave anything, they will break a window to take it even if they don't know what it is.
I never let the Post Office do pickup. Once you attract a thief they'll be back often with others. If you have any notation in packages of you're eBay account they have a shopping list. That means you need to install an active security system, hoods will break in make no mistake about it. We've a neighbor about twelve doors down who sells online and they didn't heed my advice, never have postal service pickup. They're garage got broken into when they were away and nobody heard a thing. Cops told them they were lucky it wasn't an attached garage and more which I wont go into in a comment.
Sorry about the stuff getting stolen. My worry going forward is that the person now knows you are a reseller and will come back for more. Even with a Ring Doorbell, if the thief wears a black hoodie, sunglasses, and an N95 mask, the police will have zero interest and finding the thief. It has to be super easy for them to look into something like this.
This is why I take my stuff to the post office.
The thing about filing a report on the stolen jewelry is that even though you may never get your jewelry back, there may be other filed reports that may show a pattern that could get someone caught, or it could get your neighborhood more police coverage and stop other people from getting stolen from.
I always drive my packages to the post office and get a scanned receipt after they scan in each box. Too many people take things……
Me too or my partner take our parcels to the post office
I was thinking the same thing that it was a curb alert, but then I thought the same thing nobody is craziest enough to think packages with labels would be free.
Dave what a great way to put it “paying for an education” when making a buy you thought was good. I’m still only 7 months in selling on Mecari and loving it but I have realized I need to not pick up broken stuff or messed up books if they aren’t high dollar items. Love your videos!💐😊
Wow! I saw the video where you bought those cursed jewlery pieces and I was saying to myself, NO Dave leave those alone! Its garbage... Sigh. Becareful, those thieves might strike again because they got away with it. The sailor lamp is funny!
CORRECT!! Christina here! Major fan, received the unicorn and mushroom planter (so sorry it was a hassle to get to) but I’m so thrilled with it! Purchased two other items as well and will be on the lookout for more!
Thank you for all your support!
So sorry to hear about the loss of your packages. It is helpful to notify the police because they can start scouring the neighborhood and watching for these thieves and maybe they can catch them down the road in the act. And I'm also glad to see that your listing more valuable items rather than the small inexpensive things that you were listening when I first started watching you. Good job.
Oh man that sucks! I bet someone grabbed them thinking they were curb alerts. Even if they realized it was a mistake, they may have not brought them back to avoid embarrassment…
curb alerts? they were USPS packages...it's pretty easy to determine that they are not in fact giveaways! 🤣
@@LeadMe2TheBliss Never underestimate the stupidity of people… 😂
Let me get this straight you guys put packages down by the edge of the road near the mail box.... like trash would be placed and are wondering why someone picked up your stuff.
It wasn’t with our trash. It was with our mailbox with clear markings for mail. Our mailman has picked up a couple there with no issues. It wasn’t like a table or chair by side of road for curb alert.
@@ADHDaveFlipsI would never do that in palm hood, I mean palm coast . Never! So many scumbags here always looking to steal.
@@ADHDaveFlips 🤦♂️ Jesus christ!
I once had a bag of 3 packages hanging from my mailbox flag. I watched the waste management guy pick the bag off the flag and almost toss it in dumpster. Luckily, I was watching for thieves. It's a possibility......
Dave, I’m so sorry to hear about the box theft. My heart hurts for you. There might be a bright spot, though/-can you take that as a tax deduction or loss? Hang tough-it’s bad, but from my (older) experience, it could have been so much worse. (And always put your packages on the porch…) ❤️❤️
It sucks, I had thieves open my mailbox and take 3 packages out when my flag was up. Unfortunately, it was nicer items, a Swarovski limited edition bracelet, NWT Vera Bradley, and 2- sets of vintage pristine VS satin pj’s. After that, straight to the post office and getting a receipt. My mail carrier is horrible and never scans my packages for porch pick up ( that’s IF she chooses to pick them up).
Get a large deck box at Costco keep your packages out of the weather and nobody can see whether there's any in there or not.
I don't think Ebayers leave stuff at the road. Put some boxes filled with dog crap out there
My daughter had ordered a shirt from Mercari. Someone went in her mailbox, took out the shirt and left the package in the mailbox. She got it on Ring but couldn't tell who it was. I guess recycling may have thought it was boxes to recycle but unlikely. Yes I would report it too. If insured, you might recover?
Put a sign up near the mailbox and say "please return boxes left here (police have been notified)" They might see it. Also file a police report just to see if there is a pattern in your neighborhood and then they might get caught.
File a police report so you have proof of the loss...there should be a way to write that off. Porch pirates are getting a lot more brazen and if the packages were out by the mailbox it wasn't even a challenge for them. Lesson learned and at least it wasn't a tote full of expensive items. I would not leave packages for pickup again...they know where you live now.
Free stuff is left at the curb. You know this from your own admission. If it was next to your house I'd say it was stolen.
So returns on whatnot is not negotiable when person sends back item not as pictured on listing or video? There is a video attached to every purchase on my live auctions and purchases at whatnot.
You guys have such good hearts. You must have lived in good neighborhoods your whole lives. I work in South Dallas. Im more shocked when something doesn't get stolen than if it does. There are a lot of bad people in this world that dont give one crap about others.
You can buy lockboxes for this.. big metal box you bolt to your step with a 4 digit easily changed code. And multiple code option for diffrent people picking up.
My sieter uses one here in canada
Good idea
My wife and I love all of your video's. We all have bad things happen, don't let it get you down. In a couple years you will forget all about it. It's kinda like getting a speeding ticket . 😢
I would definitely file a police report!! And I would check local pawn shops!! Hopefully you get your stuff back!
You need to get a ring doorbell so you can have video of the activity in the front of your house❤❤❤
Love your channel Don’t say someone stole your packages. They thought it was free or trash. Even if they realize that it’s not free when you call them a thief they may not return it.
Probably not a good ideal to put anything at the curb especially on garbage day and you always do curb alerts. Thanks for sharing
Honestly, I'd take this as a sign from the universe to stay away from jewelry. First, you probably got ripped off. I usually only pay a couple cents apiece for jewelry - sometimes a dollar. Then you sold it at a loss. Then it's packaged all nice for shipping and gets stolen. I could be wrong though. Maybe it's just a huge learning lesson.
I always take packages to post office. Even if it takes numerous trips
it wasnt a mistake it was taken and that was not bright. Pickups are alright if its not down at the mailbox. leason learned, I hope
Honestly, idk if I’ve ever seen a tote of things for the mailman so it might’ve been an honest mistake since it was on the curb. Lets hope they figure it out eventually and ship it for you
Anything left at the curb s fair game.. They probably didn’t even see it as stealing.
OMG! I LOVE That lamp! You coming to NC anytime soon? LOL! You have me cracking up that neighbor watches Kevin but not you! Maybe he secretly watches you too! It's a good thing they weren't ebay packages stolen.. Ebay is not very forgiving. Sorry for the theft :( That really sucks.
Free returns stink especially in this economy where someone can use something for an event and then return it. I've been selling for a few decades and I see such a huge influx in scamming. Customers keep the product and get all of their money back. I am not going to say how they do it because I don't want to give more thieves ideas. However, I used to only see a few scammers a year and now I'm seeing it almost every day. It's so bad that I'm literally having nightmares about it. I thought about taking a year off of selling until the economy adjusts itself.
I’m guessing since you tend to put out curb alerts, that your house is now “marked” as one that is a go to for stuff. I bet someone thought that was a curb alert and took it. Fingers crossed for you that they will have a conscious and drop them in the mail!
Yeah maybe he could put out more curb alerts and confront whoever comes about his packages.
Listing items slightly lower because of issues and then getting a quick sale seems like a good thing to me. Sorry to hear about the stolen packages.
I remember those fishermen lamps!! We had a smaller version same face with yellow slicker. Ceramic I do believe.
Dave great content, in a perfect world packages would be fine. Every time I hear a reseller say I left packages outside for mailman I'd wonder wow and they don't disappear, amazing!!! Deadbeats even take Amazon packages from front door and smile at ring camera. And it's a high-end neighborhood! Don't let it faze you tell Tina not her fault.
Fantastic margins! Great job. The jewelry and the stolen packages can be chalked up to lessons learned.
I have a question about your what not and ebay listing. For example I have noticed that you have the (I am completely guessing) same dallas cowboys watch and I am wondering if when you sell one do you take it off the other one or do you have two different ones?
Every time I have gone to the police there has never been a resolution except for in the year 2003 I believe it was. I actually worked at a police station and they helped me that year but never again. They actually found the person who threw screws in the street that got in my tire and the person had to buy me a new tire (it was done as a rage thing to the community, and I just happened to be driving over the screws like the other folks). I've gone to the police maybe about 10 other times with evidence regarding theft or (murd-er ... spelled weird due to bots watching us that may flag that) and there was never a resolution. But hey, 21 years ago it worked. You never know! Of course, sitting in the station etc. usually wastes about 2 hours of my time. They talk and talk and talk like I am right now. So, let's see, that's 22 hours of my time taken over the years to get back about $100 for a tire if that's how much they cost back then when I already had a working tire. My 22 hours is worth more than $100. So, hmmm....ugh. I decided to stop going to the police this past year and that's my story.
You will most likely have to file a police report, whatnot will probably need that information in order to keep on file, theft of usps packages is a federal offense i am pretty sure.
I had a little store and a family came in and bought 200 dollars of stuff and wrote a bad check, apparently they went to all the antique stores and did the same thing. They were leaving town but it was going to cost 30 dollars to file a charge and I knew that I would not ever get anything so I absorbed it. I would just be more careful. It could have been a mistake since you are putting things out for free.
How much did you pay for the Giraffe? I flipped the one I had super quick on FBMP. Didn't want to ship because it looked like it was going to be possible to ship it UPS/USPS for any reasonable value due to shipping costs.
The garbage man picked it up. They routinely pick up things in bags without looking into bags to see what it is.
In Virginia we had a truck full of mail catch fire and burn on the Highway. It was a private contractor . I’m worried about where my packages are as well.
Oh my! That’s terrible
Love the sailor lamp!
These days cameras do very little when the cops wont pursue anything.
So sorry to hear that happened to you!!! Be careful it may continue
Have you gotten the new photos left with feedback on eBay. Sold some Barbie dresses and now my feedback shows a comment and the dress on the doll. Just wondering what people think of it. Love your videos
Um, I think when you put anything near the curb -- especially on garbage day, it's free reign. It probably looked like you were trashing it.
Same thing happened to me! So sad and frustrating! And then I got dinged on ebay on top of having to refund $200 worth plus disappointing buyers. I live on a dead end in a super quiet neighborhood. So frustrating 😊
I recently had a grip go all gooey and sticky after I listed it. I messaged the buyer and asked if they still wanted it and they indeed still wanted it.
Hi I’ve been selling clothing for a year , my business has grown. I’d like to start using a multi list program for eBay ,posh and Mercari. Could you recommend one? Thanks love your channel
I have to agree with a number of the other comments - I would never have USPS pick up - opening a can of worms.
By the way, don't you get a lot of sudden rain in Florida - you mail soaking wet packages?
We keep an eye on that. Most of time we know when rain comes.
I got that gucci watch for my graduation in 2000. The receipt at the time was about $450
What type of tote was it in? Hopefully not a tote with a Recycling sign on it. So sorry that happened. It’s unfortunate. I live in a nice neighborhood, but I still am concerned about that happening. I suppose it’s gonna happen one day. BTW, the sailor lamp is really cool and looks like it’s in great condition. Since you live in Florida, you’ll probably get a good price out of it by selling it locally.
No, it wasn’t a recycle tote
I never leave stuff outside
Make sure you void your shipping labels so you get the shipping cost back. Usually takes 20 days or so.
Dave what kind of box do you use to ship golf clubs??
You should have security cameras you can set them up to be able to see what movement goes on round you property just set it up on your phone very efficient and pretty cheap.
Might be time to build a bigger mailbox for package uses!
I am so sorry to hear about the theft. Some people are so bad. So now, I would be worrying, if I were you, that this might become a pattern. It might be best to start taking your parcels directly to the post office, I know this will mean extra time spent working but, it will ensure the parcels get where they need to go. Try not to be down in the dumps, just expect some people to be the worst kind and move on.
You made it way to easy for the porch pirates
Captain lamp sounds like it's made of resin, maybe...
Oh my gosh! "Porch Pirates" are alive and well in every neighborhood. I'm sorry that happened to you.
So sorry that happened to you Dave!
Sale the sailor lamp local or try it that way first. Found small version of him so he might of been special made.
😢 Sorry. Jewelry does sell on Whatnot, but it needs advertising of at least a week. Also, sorry you had a porch pirate. I am actually surprised it hasn't happened before. Cameras don't usually stop porch pirates either.
What about posting on Nextdoor Neighbor or FB local groups asking if anyone took it by mistake or saw anything?
Best costume jewelry to buy are mainly vintage pieces. There's plenty of help videos on UA-cam
So sad. I bought two items from that auction. I wondered why the sale was canceled.
I’m so sorry!
My instant reaction when I drop something is to try to kick it no matter what I drop
Most people who are not resellers or know very little about us would not think twice about grabbing a tote at the road. The flag on the mailbox means nothing because it is for something in the mailbox not next to it. Someone probably just thought it was stuff you were getting rid of and didn't look too closely at it. They may have just thought it was boxes you got stuff in the mail in and were reusing.
I went to the flea across Florida from Pensacola to Tallahassee. About 90% of the sellers were resellers trying to get rid of their junk/deathpile. All the “good stuff” was at MSRP
I can't figure out how I'm in Tally and heard NOTHING about this sale 😞We had a ton of other yard sales though so that's good!
Depending on how much time it'll take. Definitely think you need to file a report. Especially if you get that video footage from your neighbor. That way if it happens again there's a pattern and maybe something will actually get done.
got any local flea markets or pawn shops - that jewelry will likely show up somewhere close by
You only had 8 packages for your whatnot sale? Next time you forget to schedule a pick up , just take your 8 small packages to the post office. Or you can put a note on your mailbox for your mail person.
I always lower my clubs by $10 because in our area you can go to Galaxy Golf and get new grips as low as $6.00 each.
That sucks, I bought alot of that jewelry 🤦♀️ but it sucks more that someone stole something from you
I sell my jewelry like this by weight. I spread it out nicely and take pictures of it all then bag it and weight it. sell it as a 5 lb bag etc.
I would call the police just to report it. Just so they know and if it happens to other they may just drive through you neighborhood a little more. I had a person kick my door in the middle of the night, I called just in case they came back to home invade.
So, if some of you are going with the "if it's on the curb, it's fair game", what happens if they get a package delivered to them and it's left by the mailbox, which is apparently by the curb? That would be theft! A "porch pirate" saw it and took it for sure!😢
Tina should check the garbage yard where the garbage man dumps the garbage.
I would sell that Nautical Sailor piece for $250 --$300. Shipping $125 if not higher Some restaurants may use it . I’m Alwaysbrowsin picker from Chicago.See if you can use your home owner policy to file a claim. My friend had her wedding ring taken and she filed a claim with her insurance.
I’m hoping that a miracle will happen and you get all your packages back 📦📦📦
I’d definitely file a police report. They probably won’t find the stuff, but you’ll have an official record of it for business purposes. Also, the police will have the information when they are investigating other mail thefts. Not too long ago police were alerted to a large amount of mail being in a motel room, and the mail theft culprits were caught. I think their focus was on identity theft (passport applications, credit card info, tax info, checks, etc.). Anyway, sorry that happened. Tell Tina not to sweat it-the thieves are the bad guys!
Can’t you file claims with the post office. Always insured for $50. Will probably need a police report. Such a bummer.
Those porch pirates don't even care if there's cameras around. I really do like my camera setup but like you said sometimes it just does not catch the actual event so you kind of have to do a little investigative work.
Oh my word!!!!! 😢 so sorry that’s terrible
I want that captain lamp!
Stealing mail is a federal offense; did you notify the post office as well as the local police?
Dave I looked it up on Google this is Florida Google can I leave mail on the ground it says you are not allowed it is illegal to do such it goes against the postal services policy
Oh wow! Good to know
With those Darth Vader cases, don’t sell them by themselves. Save them and fill them with loose figures and sell them as a lot. They sell much better that way.
I have the mail person pick up from me directly. I don’t leave my packages outside because I don’t want them stolen. Set up a sop for your business on out going mail procedure.
Bro, you seem like a really nice guy, but it amazes me how you stay in business!!😂🤣
Thanks
Oh wow I hope it was a simple curbside mistake and they mailed them for you 🙏💐
