well technically, Kirk Alyn was the first actor to play Superman on the Silver Screen, George Reeves was the first actor to play him on Television and the first actor to ever portray superman was Bud Collyer, on the radio. It was the Radio play that introduced a lot of things that weren't originally in the mythos. like kryptonite and Superman Flying.

My wife and I have visited Metropolis many times over the past 16 years for the annual Superman Celebration. It's a great town with many activities and attractions to visit including not only the Super Museum but also the Ohio River front, Harrah's Casino, and the Metropolis Cemetary where Robert Stroud, the Birdman of Alcatraz, is buried.

My wife has relatives in Marion, IL and we've been to Metropolis a lot. I was there a few months back and I believe that the comic book murals are fairly new and looks like it's still being worked on.
Big John's used to be a chain of grocery stores that all had the statue in the front of the parking lot. Now I think the one in Metropolis is the only one left. It's owned by the same company that owns Huck's convenience stores that are in the Midwest and upper South.

Yes, Kirk Alyn was the first actor to portray the live-action Superman. He played the role for two fifteen-segment film serials, the first in 1948, and the second in 1950. On the radio, starting in 1940, Superman was played by Bud Collyer (who was best know for game shows Beat the Clock and To Tell the Truth). He voiced the character in the 17 animated Superman theatrical short cartoons (1941-1943), and continued to do so in various cartoons until his passing in 1969. George Reeves' first outing at Superman, Superman and the Mole Men (1951) was later divided up and used as a two-part episode, entitled "The Unknown People" of the Superman television show.

The Superman character was co-created by Canadian artist Joseph Shuster. Born in Toronto, he is a cousin of Wayne Shuster, one-half of the beloved Canadian comedy duo Wayne and Shuster. Joseph, who passed away in 1992 at the age of 78, said Metropolis was modelled on Toronto and the Daily Planet was inspired by the Toronto Star, which he delivered as a kid

Bad news for the Superman pinball machine in your grandma's basement, Atari-brand pinball machines are a lot harder to get up and running compared to other brands. Their time making pinball machines was short-lived, so there's not much of a spare parts market for them compared to other more popular companies like Gottlieb, Bally, and Williams.

Wonder what year the Cadillac was in front of the museum?!? We had a 1953 Cadillac Fleetwood that was pale green like that one with a dark green hard top to set it off n it had a custom pale green snakeskin dashboard n pale green custom upholstery with tiny Cadillac emblems embossed in it with the rest of the bolt of material left in the HUGE trunk n the gas tank was in the taillight you had to lift up to gas up!! It was SUPERB!!! I know you aren't really interested in cars so I don't fi d it unusual that you blew over that 1950's Cadillac gem in front of the museum, which in my opinion, if you've seen once, it's enough, but I am not into superman either.
