LYRICS - Wild Mountain Thyme (Trad)
Oh, the summertime is coming
And the trees are sweetly blooming
And the wild mountain thyme
Grows around the blooming heather
Will you go, lassie, go?
And we'll all go together
To pull wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will you go, lassie, go?
And we'll all go together
To pull wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will you go, lassie, go?
I will build my love a bower
By yon clear and crystal fountain
And on it, I will pile
All the flowers of the mountain
Will you go, lassie, go?
And we'll all go together
To pull wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will you go, lassie, go?
If my true love, he won't have me
I will surely find another
To pull wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will you go, lassie, go?
And we'll all go together
To pull wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will you go, lassie, go?

In the late 1960s I was playing in “the Village” at places like the Bitter End, Folk City, the Bottom Line. I had to conjure up original songs to avoid the wrath of BMI and ASCAP. One night I was at the Night Owl Cafe and this long-haired painfully thin and tall guy is playing great original tunes on a thudding and remarkably mellow Gibson dreadnaught and I thought, “Holy crap… this fellow is really good!” Then, I was going through a vinyl shop and he’s on the cover of an album. That was my first James Taylor encounter. Wish I had introduced myself back then! It’s nice to see this video of James Taylor doing an Irish folk tune. Warms the heart and brings back memories. I chickened out of music 🎶 and went to college to get a “real job,” thank goodness. Still play his music and catch his concerts. He is a blessed talent.
Nice memory .....Keep listening .
Nice memory for you
- the song though I believe is Scottish and dates back to the 1700's. It has been adapted many times over the years and the lyrics currently sung were written by an Irish singer who made the first modern recording of it for the bbc.
Her name is Francis McPeake.
The song is also known as Go Lassie Go which is an old Scottish phrase & there's a great reggae version by Mungo's Hi-Fi ft. Cian Finn - from Scotch Bonnet Records. It's on the various online music platforms including UA-cam I think.
I've been a huge fan since I was 14 yrs. old. I'm almost 70 now. 'Soothing' 😮 3:01 3:08 is a great word to describe many of your songs. Thank you Mr. Taylor for all the years of honesty & artistry. ❤
Hogmanay is my favourite holiday! A beautiful Scots folk song.
I have been following him all of his career, seen him countless times in concert, and still have never seen or heard this.
That perfect smile and spirit that has always been on his face is like no one else... ❤
I don't cry easily....
me neither ☝️❤️🙏
James Taylor, Every time I hear your voice I'm reminded that there's so much out there to see and hear. You are my hero.
And I love ❤️ your music.
And...You have the best voice. ❤
This is a great duet James Taylor and. Karen marshalltown very beautiful song 🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵
Life is so hectic, but James Taylor is one of only a handful of recording artists/singers that put me at peace almost immediately. So glad he’s been and always will be a part of my musical life. ‘Love Always’ Proverbs 3:5
Your voice soothes my soul. This is the truth. You're amazing and handsome, and very artistic ❤
