Great theories as usual! Here’s some of my my ideas about these dungeons. For Dodongo’s Cavern, the Gorons most likely didn’t eat the boulder blocking the entrance because that type of rock is not edible. It’s like how humans can eat plants, but we can’t eat all plants. The Forest temple was most likely a military base that also functioned as a summer vacation home for the royal family. It was most likely attacked and destroyed during the Hyrulean Civil war and the royal family decided not to rebuild it. The Poe sisters were probably the caretakers of the fortress and were unfortunate casualties of the invasion. I also read that the Forest temple was supposed to be a wind temple, hence why there are wind symbols in the forest temple, also when you try to save saria in ganondorf's tower, her section has fans blowing in the room right before you re-awaken saria.
In my opinion the forest temple was Hyrule Castle from years past and was abandoned. In Twilight Princess old Hyrule remains is in sacred grove basically lost woods as time progresses hylians could migrate elsewhere. The forest temple has a courtyard two of them, and in the courtyard when you look up it looks like a wall for a castle, the room with the black and white tiles could be a dinning room and the room with a Poe sister could be a kitchen, other rooms look like bedrooms or training grounds, and the bottom floor where the boss is could be a living quarters for someone big living there. I also heard that the Poe sisters where not evil possible just brainwashed by ganondorf and all they were doing was protecting the forest temple but the reason why the final Poe is making a weird noise where the elevator is, is because she’s crying that all her sisters were just murdered by a intruder.
Mine’s the weird grotto under the entrance to the Sacred Forest Meadow’s maze, as that’s clearly something that got made early on and was recycled into its current function.
I kinda wonder if the Four Poe Sisters are somehow linked to the Four Sword since the Four Sword has been created with the Picori Blade getting Fixed after being broken by Vaati, and then it was fueled with the power of the Four elements, which are Earth (purple), Fire (red), Water (blue) and Wind (Green), similar to the Poe Sisters. In two Games where Link gets it, it automatically duplicates him into 4 with each one representing a color of one of the 4 elements.
Maybe the 4 Poe sisters are actually the 4 parts of the former sage of the forest temple, just separated and brainwashed into protecting the temple at all costs?
Just want to give one theory a tweak. I think it would make more sense (seeing there's other temples and whatnot) to say that Meg is the former Forest Sage, and her sisters are just there in her service (i.e. not sages). In medieval times, it was very common for principal nobles' brothers to serve as their vassal. Since only one could be the Lord of a specific land, the brothers became a noble of the level below. So Meg was a Forest Sage and her sisters are there in service of her Sageship.
Ocarina of time was the first zelda game I ever played. It will always have such a special place in my heart. ❤ I love how much work you put into this. It's funny and engaging and I always learn something new. Thank you for all you do 🥰
The Fire Temple has to be my favorite! I’m Muslim (duh!) so when I heard about the Athan or call to prayer in the original Fire Temple, I got goosebumps. :] It made me feel like the Gorons, though physically separated in cages, were praying together in Jamah ( which is the Friday congregation prayer at the Mosque) and that Link in his fresh red tunic was God’s answer to their prayers.
@@SterbiusMcGurbius No, no one was actually reportedly offended. Nintendo just thought it was better to be safe than sorry, so they removed the chanting in subsequent versions.
If you don't cross over the island in the Dark Link room, you can watch Link's reflection run to it :P I think the sand goddess was originally supposed to be Din (whom in early material was EEEEEEVIL???), Saw that in something anyway...
This one was edited well, especially the intro between you and "Donny!" I thought it was neat that you used panning around 0:45. It's a nice little detail
It has dungeons, they're just very short. There's also one specific shrine that is very dungeon-like, starting as a Test of Strength before the floor opens and lets you explore several rooms with puzzles and keys before ending with a room full of Guardians.
@@themodfather9382 The story, the characters, the sense of exploration. I agree that it's not the revolutionary masterpiece that Nintendo seems to believe it is, but it's not terrible.
I made it early this time!! My favorite is probably the Shadow temple due to the music, aesthetics, and mystery/lore. Yes, it’s straightforward in terms of difficulty, but that’s not the ~point~, you know? It’s meant to elicit fear and dread, show you the dark underbelly of hyrule. Thus, the developers really understood the assignment.
I was expecting him to theorize that twinrova was the sage of spirits before neburu was, would explain why they weren’t at the forest temple and how ganondorf knew about each temple’s location
It always threw me off the way some of those rocks (when opening dodongo cavern) look like curled up Gorons, it always gave me the impression the seal was made using Goron corpses
Perhaps the reason the Gorons didn't eat the rock blocking Dodongo's cavern is that the Gorons wanted to keep the dodongo infestation trapped INSIDE???
The forest temple was my favorite as a kid because of the music, plus as the first adult dungeon I always struggled with it until I got better so it was so satisfying to finally be able to get through it by myself
I don't know why and I may be 100% off here, but I always assumed it was implied that the Spirit Goddess was Twinrova herself, hence why it's so shocking to Link when they merge up into their united form and Link is like oh holy crap now this whole place makes sense. I mean they were 500 years old, so they could have built their own temple long long ago in anticipation of the day of Ganondorf's arrival or some such jazz...
I think you're right. That would make it make more sense why they are the mother(s) of Ganondorf. The prophecy of a Gerudo male being born every 100 years would then be answered by their goddess. Now I wonder, are all the Gerudo males their son?
I believe twinrove were originally the spirit sage who betrayed the others while rauru wasnt around as they were gathered in the forest temple discussing her adopting ganondorf
My theory about the rock wall is that maybe it’s not the type of rock that the Gorons eat, maybe the Gorons had to eat a pacific type of rock or maybe that rock might be cursed by Ganondorf, since he was the one who put it there.
I always thought that one of the Gorons mentioned that the rocks blocking the cave were so repulsive that any goron that tried to eat the blockade vomited, thus making the starvation problem even worse, but I might be misremembering.
My headcanon for Dodongo's cavern was that Goron's knew they could eat their way inside but were aware of the resurrected ancient creatures inside, so they allowed the rock seal to remain in place to keep them sealed in rather than have to fight the ancient creatures themselves.
That ignores the fact of Gorons trying to destroy the boulder blocking the entrance, rolling down the mountain with bomb flowers but failing to reach said entrance.
Link: "bubba" Darunia: "We're starving. We need rocks to eat but Dodongo's cavern is blocked by a boulder." Link: "Why don't you eat the boulder?" Darunia: "OHHHHHHH!!" num num num yum num
Well if the Poe sisters were the ancient sages of forest, fire, water, and shadow, and the ancient sage of spirit was a gerudo, I think the best explanation for why the sage of spirit wasn’t with them was that they had a more important obligation. I suggest that they were a previous gerudo king, since only one male is born per century and they always lead the gerudo people there must have been gerudo kings before ganondorf who weren’t necessarily evil.
The four Poe sisters, imo, were four priestesses who each held a sacred colored flame, which when applied to the sacred barriers in the main hall of the Forest Temple, acted as a key which opened the way to the Forest Sages chamber, which they could use to enter the Chamber of Sages. I also think the reason the Forest Temple was such a big, imposing, stone structure was because anything built in a forest will be overtaken by it in time, so it needed to be virtually impenetrable in order to protect the entrance to the Chamber of Sages. And it's designed in a Greco-Roman style because those countries are very mountainous and, outside of Asia, very ancient (?) I noticed this with the Viridian City's Earth Gym in the Pokemon anime too, it had a sort of Greco-Roman feel to it, and its guards looked like spartan warriors.
2:24 same reason we put effort and time into buying potatoes and chicken instead of eating lawn grass and squirrel. Just because something is edible don't mean it's food.
I think the Poe Sisters are more likely priestesses who followed the Forest Sage if anything. With Meg being the head priestess. I don't think the old sages would become evil spirits. I've always thought they just reincarnated into their current selves. Whether they stayed the same race or not is unknown. The ancient Goron Hero could've also been the ancient Fire Sage. Though having combined symbols and dungeon mechanisms would make sense that each of the ancient sages helped build the temples of the other sages. Which would be why similar puzzles and trap are found in multiple temples.
The reason that the Gorons didn't eat the rocks blocking the cavern was simple... Stomach ache. XD They were gourmets lol. They only could stomach the rocks in the cavern lol. This is even mentioned in the game. (Not the stomach ache part, but the gourmet part)
Every time I play the Forest Temple, I remember that somebody at Nintendo was a Louisa May Alcott fan. RIP to the Little Women - I mean the Poe Sisters. 😅
The part about the Gerudo emblem on the blocks isn't a very solid theory, since the same asset is used in all the stone blocks in every OoT dungeon. Additionally, the same pattern appears in Majora's Mask, where every stone block that appears has the Majora's Mask sillhouette engraved on them. This feels more like asset-economy rather than a conspicuous lore drop.
Dodongo cave would make more sense if Ganondorf simply revived King Dodongo in the cave and the Gorons blocked the entrance to the cave to prevent its escape
To the “why don’t The gorons eat The entrance blocking rock” question my guess is that that rock is not an edible rock for them just like not all plants are edible plants to us. Just as we cannot eat poison ivy or turf grass they probably can’t eat that very specific kind of rock
I seem to remember that Ganondorf didn’t put the Boulder there, Darunia did in response to the dodongos. Especially with how easily Link gets in there after getting the strength of a goron
In the German version, (maybe English too, idk) one of the Gorons says that they're picky eaters who can hardly eat anything else than the delicious Rocks from Dodongos Cavern, wich is most likely why they can't eat the boulder thats blocking the entrance.
They do say that in English, too! While it comes across as a little silly, I appreciate that they do try to explain it. And it fits the (somewhat) lighter tone of Young Link's adventures.
The Godess of the sand is Din. The Gigaleak revealed it via the games script. Yeah it's beta, but if we're going down "which Goddess is it" Din would make the most sense as she actually existed at the time and she has a connection with Ganondorf via the Triforce of Power.
Whether it is Din, or Hylia, or whoever, I find it just so strange the way that Navi describes that Goddess's face as "looking evil". I know it's meant as a puzzle hint (shine light at the statue's face), but it's just strange to me. Nothing about the Goddess or her statue seems "evil", it's like people (in-universe) just decided it was evil because the Gerudo were worshipping it.
It does have a snake and given din's connection to ganaondwarf. It is possible that din has more malevolent intentions when worshipped on her own. We never really see what worshipping the three separately looks like, so maybe din is more monstrous when worshipped on her own. Plus, that giant statue is creepy.
Hold on, I'm only 2 and a half minutes into this, but Ganon didn't put the rock in front of the mine, Darunia put the rock there! Ganon used magic to bring back the Dodongos in the cavern. They are so dangerous to the Gorons that he blocked off the mine to keep the Gorons safe.
Someone may have perhaps said this already, but I wonder if the four Poe Sisters in the Forest Temple really are the ghosts of past Sages, maybe the Phantom Guide in the Haunted Wasteland, who you meet on the way to the Desert Colossus in Ocarina of Time, was the missing fifth Sage, the former Sage of Spirit..?
I was in school when OoT came out. The entire Great Deku tree having a dungeon for insides made me think of Link as a chipmunk. A friend drew me an awesome picture of Link as a chipmunk that hung on my wall for a couple decades.
Well this was the first time I heard that the Poe sister might be sages… so it stands to reason if that was the case, the sage of spirit might be the Poe in the haunted wasteland?
I hope you experts see this. I've always been interested in the ruins of BotW. Many of them are still unexplained. I wonder, has anyone tried to compare the ruins with the INTERIOR layouts of the dungeons from earlier Zelda games?
But there is an answer to why the Gorons didn't eat the boulder blocking Dodongo's Cavern. They literally said they became such gourmets that they were very picky about which rocks they ate. Not a valid excuse, but that's the answer
The Gorons can't eat that big boulder because it's inedible. Also, Darunia was trying to think of a plan to fight off the Dodogos without sacrificing his people
13:37 Considering what you said about the Poe Sisters in the Forest Temple, it’s likely the Poe here in the Haunted Wastes is the previous Spirit Sage. Without further research, it’s hard to say how true that might be. However it would fit nicely into the mix as the Sage to Poe pattern established in the Forest Temple.
I think gorons swallow rocks whole or atleast cut them into small pieces before eating. The boulder was too large for them to eat or break... Still i don't get why they couldn't just explode it like we did maybe they're just dumb
If I had to make a wile guess, Gorons probably need a specific or several specific minerals and that's why they can't just eat any random rock or need to eat specific rocks like volcanic ones that are rich in whatever they need.
“why didn’t they eat the rock blocking the cavern?” darunia mentions them being ‘such gourmets’ that they can’t eat normal rocks anymore, they’ve evolved their taste to only like rocks from inside the cavern.
Imo: the forest temple is a stronghold, whose house sigil is on the walls in large. The poe sisters were priestesses of that house. They likely wielded magic and were slain in battle during the castle siege. Ganon used magic to summon a demon to occupy the stronghold, and that caused the sisters' spirits to ressurect. They were on the losing side of the civil war. You see house Hyrule insignias at each temple because that's what you do after you capture strongholds. But secretly, the Sheikah can use the Oot to warp to those strongholds to keep an eye on the new families or stewards of the strongholds.
I always believe that the reason behind of "why the gorons never try to enter dodongo's goron?" Was just that Darunia gave the order to not doing it... You know, they fear what would ganondorf could have done there... Or at least that's what I believed all this time, it's part or been a leader... Decide tough things trying the best for their people...
"problems for hylians are not problems for gorons", paraphrasing that one goron chief from twilight princess right before he drilled through a rock wall by rolling into it like sonic the hedgehog 2:27
Listen, if they didn't trust Ganon with the ruby before he cut off their food source and condemned them to death, then they certainly won't when he did indeed do those things
For some reason, I remember hearing or reading that the reason the Goron's didn't eat the boulder in front of the cavern is because they couldn't digest it, or it was hard on them to do so. I'm sure it's not true, but that's something I always thought as a child.
Considering the ease of removing the boulder closing Dodongo Cavern, I assume the gorons put it there to keep the dodongos inside. They call them an a ancient menace so it's unlikely they're well versed in fighting them. And I assume the beamos were put there by Ganondorf as an additional obstacle, but I'm only guessing that because they're the first thing you see in Ganon's Castle later on and that they're tan which makes me think they're gerudo-made.
the forest temple could have been the last stand for the remaining sages i mean im sure they could have at least locked down one room at least. Meg the eldest locked the main room allowing the others to secure the temple. gannon curses Meg to have to watch all her sisters die. he then continues onwards. cursing the other sisters to become poes as he goes. it would explain why they are all in the same place if they are indeed the sages.
You know, I eat plants, but some of them are poisonous, and some of them are inedible. If I didn't have an axe or a saw or a bomb or something, a big tree in front of a place with lots of peas and rutabaga might stop me from chowing down. Also, hey, he was a very bright ten year old...

How did you know I just discovered and binged all the Zelda lore videos in the past two days??? That timing tho
Are you knew to Zelda or just this channel?
@@rainbowsnake1108 Zelda is my entire childhood, especially OOT- I just discovered the channel :)
@@Lv-nq9qz
This might also be, but I still wonder if it has a connection to the second most Famous evil busting sword
Weren't some people offended by that?
Love this interpretation. It also helps that the Surah that’s being sung (112 Al-Ikhlas) is one of the most important in the whole Quran.
And wait, you're a Muslim with the account name Islam No Good?
@@SterbiusMcGurbius No, no one was actually reportedly offended. Nintendo just thought it was better to be safe than sorry, so they removed the chanting in subsequent versions.
@@eboone ah gotcha. They have the no religion rule for non Japanese releases.
We've been next level loving your Zelda content lately! We've been looking forward to this one for a minute!
What game is that funny goofy bird in your avi from lol?
If you don't cross over the island in the Dark Link room, you can watch Link's reflection run to it :P
I think the sand goddess was originally supposed to be Din (whom in early material was EEEEEEVIL???), Saw that in something anyway...
This one was edited well, especially the intro between you and "Donny!" I thought it was neat that you used panning around 0:45. It's a nice little detail
Blocking the entrance to Dodongo's cavern with a boulder is like blocking a Mcdonalds entrance with a giant quarter pounder.
"a zelda game without dungeons", literally breath of the wild :(
yes, it's a bad game. i don't understand why people liked it, it was just a nothing game
Links crossbow training... even soul caliber 2 has dungeons lol

These videos are a great way to relive the nostalgia 😊
The fact that Vaati may appear in OoT is always fun to think about.
Been bitching for days bout having fatigue from all the same stuff from YT lately and BOOM you drop this gem. Lov3d this game
Hope you see this bro, love the videos you put out and the insight you give us. Keep doing your thing man
I believe twinrove were originally the spirit sage who betrayed the others while rauru wasnt around as they were gathered in the forest temple discussing her adopting ganondorf
My theory about the rock wall is that maybe it’s not the type of rock that the Gorons eat, maybe the Gorons had to eat a pacific type of rock or maybe that rock might be cursed by Ganondorf, since he was the one who put it there.
Like rocks from the Pacific Ocean?
I love that the Gorons are gourmands. They only eat the best rocks.
Link: "bubba"
Darunia: "We're starving. We need rocks to eat but Dodongo's cavern is blocked by a boulder."
Link: "Why don't you eat the boulder?"
Darunia: "OHHHHHHH!!" num num num yum num
Well if the Poe sisters were the ancient sages of forest, fire, water, and shadow, and the ancient sage of spirit was a gerudo, I think the best explanation for why the sage of spirit wasn’t with them was that they had a more important obligation. I suggest that they were a previous gerudo king, since only one male is born per century and they always lead the gerudo people there must have been gerudo kings before ganondorf who weren’t necessarily evil.
I like the poe sister's theory its interesting i do wonder if the pow who guides you across the desert is missing spirit sage
I would definitely watch a video like this on the Majora's Mask dungeons
R u ready for the TotK trailer for tomorrow? 👀👀👀
Bro the skits at the start are straight of of OG UA-cam collabs from back in the day and I don't know if I hate them or not lmao
Lol this has gotta be the most amazing collaboration video intro ever. You guys have great banter.
Love the collaboration 2. That's how I found your channel. So plus on that. My honest input
I always thought the rock blocking dodongos cavern is similar to grass/lettuce sort of thing. Lettuce is eaten but grass isn’t .
The forest temple being the temple of the forest sage makes sense. The four poe sisters being previous sages is a reach my joints can't handle.
That forest temple theory is one of the best I’ve seen
really like this interchanged collab thing!
I love the smell of collab videos in the morning. Smells like Zelda lore!
Love both of your videos guys, and your interactions
keep the great works
Lately you have been carrying my youtube experience your vids are top notch
Also, Darunia was trying to think of a plan to fight off the Dodogos without sacrificing his people
I love when El Bandito and Monster Maze do videos together!
Ummmm… do I wanna know about the back rash?!… anywhoooo nice video hahaha
Merry Christmas Bandit!
All dungeons explained! Covers about 1/3 of the total number of dungeons..... Still enjoyed the video just gave me a chuckle. lol
If I had to make a wile guess, Gorons probably need a specific or several specific minerals and that's why they can't just eat any random rock or need to eat specific rocks like volcanic ones that are rich in whatever they need.
“why didn’t they eat the rock blocking the cavern?”
darunia mentions them being ‘such gourmets’ that they can’t eat normal rocks anymore, they’ve evolved their taste to only like rocks from inside the cavern.
Holy fuck I never knew that reflection thing in Water Temple that is so cool
idk why the thumbnail was your face but I love videos like this bandit!
would be nice that the hypothetical remake include an expanded lore that confirm o discredit all of these theories
Buddies simple explanation
We humans don't go around eatting grass and trees.
That's why we have farms
And that said Goron's have mines
I hate that 10:37 caught me off guard like it did
Seems I'm not the only one who heard that.
It took me far too long to realize the Poe sisters are likely named after the March sisters from Little Women...
Forest temple theme is in my top 5 dungeon themes of all zelda games.
In the words of something about oot young link: "Why don't you just eat the boulder?"
Something about Gorons: o_o
