For sure, it wouldn't be a huge deal except the new voice actress just doesn't have the right energy. She sounds a little dry and lackluster, I hate to say. Nothing against her, she just isn't as incredible as Lani Minella

I am so stoked. I saw a LOT of negative comments on Instagram and I'm so confused...it looks amazing!!! Of course it's not going to have the same interface as the games made in the early 2000s. But the graphics look amazing! Also the suit of armor, the key, the alchemy...reminds me of one of my favs, Blackmoor Manor! I'm actually very excited about this game. They've had so much fun giving us puzzles and treasure hunts up until the release date. I love Nancy Drew. As long as HER keeps making these games, keeps Nancy and the Clue Crew alive, I'll be happy!!
It doesn't look amazing, just better than MID. A lot of people who play Nancy Drew games tend not to play any others, and don't have anything to compare them to. These aren't bad but aren't quite state of the art either. Not that that really matters if the game is good.
@@GraemeCree yeah I'm more interested in the storyline. I was excited about MID as well, but then we all found out the very obvious downfalls of the game. And this game could end up having the same outcome! Don't get me wrong...I would love a revamped version of some older games or if they brought back the old interface and were consistent with how the games have always visually looked. But I'm just thankful they are continuing to make these games in general ☺
Brittany Cox still sounds like she should be playing Barbie instead of Nancy. Otherwise (as with most trailers actually) it's hard to get a good read on whether or not the finished product will be good.
omg I had no idea it was Brittany Cox, I listen to her voice everyday when I play genshin HAHA that's so wild. I can hear how she's trying to sound like the original VA but it's just not the same:(
12:30 That's a playing card. I believe the Czechs traditionally use a "German-suited" deck instead of the "French-suited" deck that's most common in the Anglosphere, so the full deck would be Leaves, Hearts, Acorns, and Bells instead of Spades, Hearts, Clubs, and Diamonds. I'm assuming it's either a red herring or some sort of deliberate calling card. It'd feel really weird for a master jewel thief (and noted Tarock enthusiast) to both take a full pack of 36 cards on a heist needlessly and then be so foolish as to _accidentally_ leave a card behind in the path of his getaway.
"There is only one who can stop them" the drama lol. Also I didn't realize that accent was a prague-y accent. Its the accent of the bunny people in final fantasy 14 and I had no idea where to place it in the real world hah.
Michael, you’ve had a chance to play a little of the game, so I’m wondering what your opinion is about the graphics of this one compared to MID? From the trailer, it looks like it’s going to be so much better but that could just be wishful thinking. This one looks spooky, like CUR or GTH, and the October releases were always my favorite. Did they say anything about games moving forward after 34? And most importantly, is it May yet?
@@victoriam.4927 It’s in a Live stream he did about 6 months ago. If you go to his page and click on the Live tab, it’s not too far down the page. It’s a Q&A after he got back home from Washington.
I wanted this for MiS as well, but just imagine how cool this game would be if it had a VR option, I feel like it would fit perfectly with this engine and give these new games a real interesting identity
Personally, the plot looks more like the older games(start with a simple mystery, but it gets more unsettling as the game progresses) than Midnight in Salem’s lackluster plot. It also looks beautiful compared to MiS.
I was going to say, I don't even mind the character models because it kind of takes me back to older Nancy Drew. It's giving vintage gaming. I think they put more work into the puzzles and environments (also like the older games) and they look gorgeous.
Focusing on the game trailer alone, this game does look promising. Of course, it is just a trailer, not actual gameplay, so it's hard to judge. Still, I think this could be good. Plus, in my experience, if you go in with an expectation to be displeased by something, you probably will be, even if it something you would otherwise enjoy. So I intend to be cautious with my opinion until I see the actual game.
I keep wondering if they are still going to have Ned help Nancy because, in Midnight at Salem, they made that scene a big deal where Nancy said my next case, we can do together, or something. So I wonder if that is actually going to happen or if we will be on our own.
The worst thing is probably the voice actress for Nancy. She is terrible. She was terrible in MiS and she still sounds bad. It's not the youthful voice that is the issue, it's her acting which is not good at all. The voice acting for characters seems fine. From another video they showed the interface looks good, and the inclusion of both free-walking mode (actual proper free walking and not the "3D point click of MiS) AND classic point-and-click mode is great. It's actually pretty unusual, it's cool to give this freedom to the player, and I feel it could create two different playthrough experiences. The environments we were shown look okay in terms of models and rendering but there are still some bad looking effects, like the fog, or that black moving cloud. The character models are better than in MiS but still not amazing. Very static expressions. I'm happy that the new team is at least trying this time and not just outsourcing to freelance workers. I think there's a potential for something at least decent here, if the story is properly structured, if the character writing is on point, plus there does seem to be good overall atmosphere to the game, and excellent tone of the setting has always been on of the main appeals of ND games. I still wonder what the hell happened that HER Intercative decided to completely revamp the team. The games were cheap to make while at the same time looking visually better than this because the people working on the game were professionals who worked for decades on the same engine and knew it's strengths and weaknesses. There's no way the games suddenly became unprofitable, they were obviously cheap to make with a fanbase dedicated enough to make that money back. Chasing broader appeal HER increased the budget and tried to go for "new" technology but ended up with results that feel much more dated because the new team is inexperienced and any people from the older team that might have survived the layoffs are just not versed in a completely new engine.
I hope this game actually springs off from MID's ending. Nancy promised Ned to take a time off from mystery solving for him or actually take him for the ride. I would be happy if she said "Oh, it's been (blank) year" since I did a mystery.
I'm really stoked they kept the old graphics. One, it panders to nostalgia babies who want to keep their childhoods alive. Two, it's an artform unto itself, like 16-bit games. It's such a solid medium to use for a fp puzzler.
I'm still excited for it, but it does look like a game that would've come out in the late 2000s. Just glad for another game though! Gonna recovering from surgery soon so it'll be something to keep me occupied during that time!

@fireprincess1090 Lani did not want to leave. HeR fired her because they said they needed to find someone who sounded "younger". She sounded so much better as Nancy, no shade to the new voice actress but it is hard to get used to someone else voice this character.
