    A small note: I elude to but never specifically clarify that, in multiplayer, any player can take an action off turn to help any other hero get the specific item they want from Shopping Spree.
    And if we are putting a team together with the plan to use Shopping Spree, we make sure Jubilee is always the first player in case she draws into Shopping Spree and has to play it normally from her hand.

    Great video! I think you did a good job on the review. I value the wild resource on her hero more than you do, but I agreed with basically everything else you said. I really like your system with the stars for evaluating heroes.

      Thanks and thanks! I do like the wild resource but it's almost a Smash the Problem problem in my eyes. You gain the thing, but lose some of the other thing you could have done instead.

    Another well thought out video, thank you!
    I've not even got her yet but had come to some similar conclusions from watching playthroughs - her SS is a trap (in solo) that I'll just use to power up Ally Storm.
    Also agree with future videos baaed on well-suited decks, not power decks. I aim to build my decks like salt (they bring out the heroes flavour), not like hot chilli (they overpower it).

      @VillainTheory  4 місяці тому

      That's a great way to describe building decks, never heard it before but I love it. Is that from somewhere? Haha! Thanks for the comment and I hope you enjoy Jubilee and the Storm ally with her once you have her!

      @VillainTheory honestly just thought of it while trying to put my thoughts into words. I'm sure the last instance of a Chilli deck I saw was D20 playing Hulk and barely playing any Hulk cards. It worked, but I thought "then why play Hulk?"
      Looks like Iceman and Jubilee packs are on the way for us in the UK.

    Great vid! I enjoyed the part at the end about deck builds affecting character power/perception. I think that’s really important to remember! Besides, the game is meant to be fun either way!

    I've honestly found her to be an amazing partner for 2 handed solo. Not too complex, brings status, lets you not need to worry about running Justice if you don't want

    Great video. You and I definitely line up a lot on our thoughts with Jubilee. I've been saying she is about B tier. With the right support, opening hand or villain scenario, Jubilee can really fly and take control of a game. She can also just feel bad with bad draws and have nothing to do.

    • @VillainTheory
      @VillainTheory  4 місяці тому +1

    Something I'm not seeing mentioned much is how thematic it is that Jubilee shines as a sidekick! Don't prioritise her items, prioritise your buddy's game-changing item. Build for support, to fill in the gaps in their gameplan. She ups the consistency of other build-reliant heroes.

    Great vid:
    "Kill your Darlings!" LOL
    Love the call out with the difference in 1Up vs MPer with her gear/SS
    Agree with the 'Ready-up' trap...generally not worth chasing.
    A couple of supports to note to help out with clearing 'Shopping Spree' each deck pass for using 'Cell Phones' in MPer:
    Leadership: E.V.A. ('support' paired with 'Fanomex' ally)
    Aggression: War Room (when allies defeat minions = 1 thw)
    Justice: Beat Cops, Surveillance Team, Disguise (as mentioned)

    Jubilee is fun, variable, a little awkward, and not overwhelmingly strong. In other words, a really solid addition to the roster.

    Make a video to help beginner players learn and think more about the value a card generates. Why broadly events give value now, but probably the least value, allies give value over a few turns, so you need to consider if you have that time, which you usually do which is why they tend to be the strongest thing to do. And why upgrades and supports really need many turns to become worth it, they are an early game investment. Play too many beat cops and upgrades in your first turns, and you might fall behind and lose turn 4 or 5 before we can round the corner.
    A lot of these things are more about the broad strategy of the game where I think a lot of beginner videos focus on how to play, but not why to make a specific play vs another.
    A good example is when you could played a few investment cards on turns 1 and 2 and are a little behind, then you draw your characters best upgrade (think colossus +thwart and draw when losing toughs card), but the last encounter draw was a Hazard Icon. Sure you could play that key ugprade but maybe doing so when you are already behind is suicide, when instead you could play a For Justice here to clear the hazard.
    Helping new players understand when and why to play certain cards in different situations is part of the fun of the game. Yes you might go into a game with a gameplan in mind, like getting out cards X, Y and Z asap and then smooth sail to victory. But sometimes you will throw a game if you don't understand the basics of value now vs more greedy value later plays. Understanding what the game is showing and telling you, helps inform your gameplan.
    I think you could do a great job showing some examples and talking about some cards that represent different levels of value in different situations. Cheers.

    Great analysis as always. I enjoy playing Jubilee in solo, she's fun but she's among the weaker x-men heroes. Thank you for the idea of Storm using shopping spree as "thwart stockage"...now is not usefull only for Master plan! Ahahah lol

  • @heroicskeleton1566

    Been playing a ton of Jubilee and Storm 2 handed. I wasn't sure about that timing on getting the cape from clearing shopping spree with hurricane and then triggering the cape response off it. I decided against it, and the combo is still so busted, but it would be even crazier if you can lol. If Jubilee has mutant education and shopping spree in her opening hand, you can actually trigger it twice in 2 player getting both her cape and crown out before Storm even plays a single card

    • @VillainTheory
      @VillainTheory  4 місяці тому +1

      I'm 95% sure you can immediately ready. Removing the threat triggers the "When Defeated" and you get the Cape, then the side scheme is removed from play, and that marks the conclusion of the whole threat-removal process. Which means Hurricane is now resolved. And your Cape can thus ready you.
      But this game has so many tiny rules and rulings that I doubt myself on almost anything not obvious...

    Loving this so far. And I agree about her less than ideal solo viability. In fact I’m just kinda done playing her. I’m not having fun
    The one thing I will say is I don’t really mind if the signature ally doesn’t match mechanically with the hero. Don’t get me wrong, it’s always nice when they do. But if thematically they thought Wolverine made the most sense as her sig ally I’d rather they just make a good version of Wolverine and not try to shoehorn a Jubilee type ability on him
    Edit to add at the conclusion: I think you can have fun with Jubilee in a vacuum. But after 2 years of playing all these X-men cards over and over, and 5 years of playing the game in general, I don’t feel like I’m doing anything with Jubilee I haven’t already done dozens of times, only slightly worse probably

    • @VillainTheory
      @VillainTheory  4 місяці тому +1

      Honestly, if you're not having fun then totally stop playing her. I haven't touched Iceman since the day before I did his review for the channel. Some heroes just aren't for some people and that's okay. I expect I'll return to him in a couple of months and see how it goes.
      The signature ally thing is interesting. I want to say I agree, that an ally can just be its own thing, but on the other hand printing 4-cost on something with basically no synergy is a very steep ask. Especially when - and I cut this from the video because it was originally like 1 hour 30 - her nemesis set seems designed to counter Wolverine. That's a big risk for a card that takes up almost my whole turn to play, when the game is asking me to play other things with this hero.
      But in theory I agree. Maybe I would prefer those "signature allies" were more like Groot/Rocket/Ghost-Spider, actually basic cards you could choose to add in. Or perhaps just less of a cost. Or a way to discount them unrelated to what they do when actually on the board. "Wolverine costs -1 for each event you've played this turn". ...Not 100% sure where I sit on it overall but you've got me thinking!

    • @GetUpandGame
      @GetUpandGame 4 місяці тому

      @@VillainTheory it’s definitely preferable to have synergy, and I hadn’t noticed the nemesis set thing since I’ve only had it come in once. It’s just something I hear people point out from time to time and I’ve realized it doesn’t bother me. A big ol 3 piercing attack is always welcome lol

    I'm more of a multiplayer player, ranging from 2-4 and I think there's something to be said for those who are just better as support characters. Those who enable the others to do their things faster or better.
    I haven't played Jubilee yet but from your review and my own look that's the impression I get off her. She is more a support multiplayer hero.

    • @VillainTheory
      @VillainTheory  4 місяці тому +1

      She's definitely a good support hero. Also honestly some pretty good output once the engine's online and her items are firing every turn.

    Jubilee is a power hero that requires more work than most to get her full power.
    For Shopping Spree I love it. I don't have to worry about going long games unable to put out her items and if I lose them I can find them again. It is so painful to use Bishop's identity ability only to discard his suit, with Shopping Spree that's not an issue. Also add Mutant Education and suddenly villains that rely on discarding Upgrades/Supports become a joke. "What's that War? Discard an upgrade, guess that means it's time to go SHOPPING!!!" Seriously without Jubilee he is my main target with her he is last. Even she is teamed with a hero whose critical upgrade/support is not an item she can still use it to put a unimportant one out like cellphone so they never have to worry about losing their critical ones since they can always have a sacrificial card.

    • @VillainTheory
      @VillainTheory  4 місяці тому +1

      A point in Bishop's favour is that his upgrades have the Temporal trait, meaning he can yoink them from his discard pile immediately if he does discard them in most instances. There are even decks built around discarding through your deck to find them faster that way. But regardless that's very interesting and also kind of hilarious. "A horsemen of the apocalypse stole from you?! PAUSE THE FIGHT! TO THE MALL! WE'RE GONNA BUY YOU A NEW ONE!" Love it.

    Jubilee is great. If you bring out ally cards and get set up the first two rounds and focus on getting shopping spree completed by that second round, Jubilee will be kitted out after two turns. She can then spend turns three and four swinging huge hits for up to 16 damage, easy. She makes for quick games where you win in 4 or 5 turns. She also has enough status effects and threat removal to mitigate everything on the board. Her only downside is if you don’t get the right series of cards, she takes too long and gets overwhelmed. She feels very thematic in those ways.
