  • Have you ever seen someone correct someone else for saying "recovered alcoholic" instead of "recovering alcoholic?" Did you know that they're full of factory-fresh BALOGNA??
(Sorry for the weird brightness issues, I forgot to disable auto-exposure on my phone because I am a Video Neophyte, and was not able to correct it in editing for the same reason.)

Love it! Long-ish time nomowo listener and psyched to see you making videos.
Hearing your story over the years and hearing some of my own habits in them, helped me cut back HUGELY. I was self medicating for anxiety disorders and adult adhd, mostly with alcohol but other drugs as well. Abstinence+cutting back never worked for me until I did some serious work on my other issues. Much love, and I hope you're finding fulfillment in this new creative outlet 💚

I am not in AA either, but from what I understand from other 12 step programs, both powerlessness and dedicating oneself to a higher power is about humility. Humility makes life easier and less stressful because you can ask for help in all different areas, which supports recovery. If you can get there without the steps, or if you don't need that, good!
The language "recovering" is a way to say one has dedicated oneself to continued personal growth and service to others. If you have done that outside of a twelve step program and it helps your sobriety, great! If you don't need it, great! Take what you like and leave the rest.

Powerful video, Alex - it's something I've long wondered about the distinction between myself. The mental importance of drawing a line under any addiction with the past tense to some people resonated with me. Happy new year to you!

Great insight, Alex, this is an awesome way to chronicle your struggles and bring those with potential problems to a "point of realization", present company included.
With your addiction, did you notice yourself gradually becoming more dependent on alcohol as time progressed, or was it an all in experience? By this, I mean, did you start with having a drink a day and progressively notice yourself drinking more, or did you start by binging when you were first introduced to alcohol?

I was a binger from the start, but it really got kicked into high gear when I came to Japan, a culture very friendly to habitual drinking. I'll go into more detail in the next video, thanks!

Alex, I'm confused about when I would ever use Hagakure. I would think that keeping my sen for either a timely Higanbana, or even a regular Tenka Goken or Midare Setsugekka would be better DPS than any of the Hissatsu attacks. Am I wrong?
(also, great job! I've thought about this terminology in my own nicotine recovery and it's nice to hear another take on it)

Hagakure is extremely situational. In fact, the only time I use it is in dungeons, after the first or second boss, and only if I have all three sen. Since Midare is a waste on packs, you can start your AoE rotation fresh by converting all three sen to kenki.
      (Thanks!!)

As someone who grew up in a house with lots of alcohol abuse, that continues to this day, I think I will gain a lot from this. I also have a general interest in cults and AA- so looking forward to future videos. Even though my relationship with alcohol has been pretty healthy since I left university.

I never really drank, so interesting insight here for me! However, I've had other addictive tendencies in my life.
Did you have any addictive tendencies with MMOs like FFXI/XIV or other games? Do any of those relate to your past experience with alcohol? Did improving your relationship with one help/worsen the other?

@@AlexFraioli I think so. It would only show your pixel art video when I looked at your channel but it's good now. I dunno what happened.
