My biggest hesitation for buying a crokinole board is finding a place to store it! I feel like you'd need to dedicate a spot on the wall to hang it, or maybe set up a little hammock for it under the kitchen table.
This turned out pretty nice! The brads following the grain makes perfect sense in hindsight, but I certainly wouldn't have predicted it :D

Yeah it’s definitely a hefty board. Takes up half the table.😆 We’ve got a little game closet but the hammock is a great idea too!
      Thank you!

Hang it on a wall. There are several ways but the best mount I have found for the several boards I have owned is the system Tracy sells. It is about $60 but works GREAT. You can then get an inexpensive clock face available through Mayday to mount over the pegs and viola, you have a beautiful wood wall clock.

      Both great ideas! Thank you!

@@BearhawkStudio Given your proven skill you could also buy a clock movement and make the wood clock face to fit over the pegs.

@@kennethfharkin That's a great idea about the clock! Our was a family heirloom so it hang on the wall, made by Grampa during the Depression. Very rustic looking.

Great nostalgia there, thanks, as a Canuck living in Europe. Why have I been thinking of crokinole lately? Game memories with Gramma and fam... I always pick projects way beyond my woodworking ability lol.

If I can do it I’m sure you can make it happen! I cheated a bit by using the laser for the lines but there’s some other vids I’ve seen since that have neat solutions for that part. Best of luck and thanks for watching!

Great job on the board! Looks absolutely stunning!
If you're willing to put more coats of poly, you could sand it to a proper mirror finish and make it look even more amazing than what you did an fantastic job.
When I make my boards, I sand the surface to 400 dry sand (as flat as possible), then coat with about 8 coats of water based poly. I sand in between to get the surface as level as possible without any dips in the board. Once it's flush as can be, wet sand at 600, 1000, 1500, and a final 2000. When that's complete, give a regular McGuiar's wax and quick polish. For durability and quality of surface, the extra elbow grease really makes that surface shine and while making the discs fly. To even add proper frictionless motion to the discs, you can rub each side with a bit of mcquiar's wax.

Thank you! And thanks for the tip on the mirror finish. I think I’ll end up doing that. I hadn’t ever played before building that one and couldn’t tell how glasslike they usually are from the pics online - but now that we’ve played a good bit I definitely see it should be a bit slicker. Might also help with the slight dip at the laser lines.

I've built several myself. The hard part is the disks. I ended up using Othello pieces, works great!

Yeah I bought the disks cause i was afraid of getting my fingers that close to any blades cutting them. 😆

How did you connect the game board to the ditch?

    • @BearhawkStudio

It’s just sitting in there for now I wasn’t sure if it needed to be one piece. It’s actually pretty heavy since everything is 3/4 to 1” stock.

"It made sense at the time." is going to be on my tombstone. You mentioned 6 coats of a finish but I dont notice what type of finish other than the wax.

Haha, yeah I find myself saying that a lot. The finish was "General Finishes High Performance Gloss." I used a foam brush for the crokinole board in this video - but since then bought a $30 HVLP gun off amazon and have been using it for several projects - and the finish looks WAY better sprayed than it does brushed.
