- there is an ART to blending GRAY HAIR for #men. and we're going to teach you ;) in today's video, jessica will demonstrate how to blend #grayhair into a natural color.
HIGHLIGHTS
01:35 choosing the right COMB
01:58 the FORMULA
02:28 the TECHNIQUE
05:21 color all applied
01:39 the FINISHED look
if you look at jason’s hair, it is pretty GRAY underneath. the BIGGEST challenge with men’s hair is that they don't want others to know their hair is colored. COLOR CHOICE and PRODUCT PLACEMENT are key to having the end result look natural.
color choice is EVERYTHING! when formulating for men’s hair, keep in mind that the shade needs to be ASHY. we are blending the grey, not completely covering it! choosing an ashy tone will keep your end result in the same family of colors as the grey.

the best video i have seen for dying men's hair, excelllent technique
Ah thank you! Have you tried it?
I really like it! It looks so natural and fresh. I have some small grey streaks myself and I don't want to dye my whole head because I actually like my natural color and I'm only 27 so I want to enjoy my natural color as long as possible without the greys 😜I'm going to try this with my hairdresser. Thank you for the video xoxo
your welcome and you will love it! just do this in the area is needs. its also great because you dont need to redo it very often because it just softens your grey rather than covering 100% of your hair! please let me know how it turns out!
btw, we are drawing for free hair product TONIGHT for 'nvenn's split end trio' (no purchase necessary)! if you want to enter you can do so at www.nvenn.com/giveaway 😘
That looks so nice, very natural 😃👌
thank you! that’s ultimately the look we were going for it doesn’t look obvious that it’s been coloured
*so it doesn’t 😉
Great tips!! Thanks for the video teaching us a shortcut. I put tin foil on a bunch of hair leave some silver and then do this all over my head. Takes a lot of time and effort. Thank you for your help
ohh yes! your welcome. your technique works too, it's just a lot more work. if i could drive to the other end of town or skateboard, i would drive 😅
i'm not sure if you have entered before but we do a monthly product giveaway and the draw is happening tonight 💕if you want to enter, you can enter at www.nvenn.com/giveaway you can also RE-ENTER each month regardless of whether or not you have won before so you can re-enter tomorrow for february's draw! xoxo good luck 🙂
I like the comb method. I have been coloring my own hair for about 10 years now with Redken Shades EQ O6N. This color used to look good but my hair is now 95% gray and would like to know what product you would suggest me using. I was thinking a Dark Ash Blonde or a Light Ash Brown???
ohhh that would depend on what your hair looks like now. typically the goal is to get to a darker color but if your hair is 95% grey (with no color on the ends), I would suggest starting lighter and phasing in the dark over time so that the transition is gradual. i'm not sure about you but most men don't want their hair to look "colored"
BTW, we do monthly product giveaways! our next draw is happening tomorrow. you can enter at WWW.NVENN.COM/GIVEAWAY. you can RE-enter each month regardless of whether you win or not! 💖
thank u great tips,, I will do to my client tomorrow
thank you fabiano! i’m glad this technique was able to serve you positively 😊😊 perhaps we will do a similar video but for women’s hair. also we’re doing a giveaway for free hair products if you wish to enter: nvenn.com/giveaway 💕
Looks great. Tried and true gray blending method. and look at how long and luscious YOUR hair is!
thank you dante 🥰🥰 we’re glad you enjoyed this week’s topic! and jessica swears by nvenn wash & polish to keep her hair happy & healthy ❤️
I am completely white, thinning hair on top but still pretty full. I am painting it my youth colour still darkbrown. But I’m getting tired of the full black head, it also shows Offcourse that I paint. More then 15 years now. I do not want to walk around with a white head either, I look pretty young for my age but with white hairs you can add 20 years. Ni way ! So what would be a good solution? A Darkgrey hairblend would be nice. Thanks in advance
Yes....the comb..... Great vid and technique!
thank you so much 😀 we really wanted to create some fresh new content that also included men into the mix 🧔🏽
Thank you great video. I have about 100% gray on top and about 80/90% on the sides. My natural hair color is black. I would like to have more Gary showing than your model. It would be perfect to get to about a 50% mark. If I use your technique and just brush once on each section, would I get that look? Also, does using this technique eventually completely colors all the hair as you reapply at next coloring session? Lastly, what hair color you suggest? Do you folks have your own brand of hair color?
Yes you should. I cant say exactly how many times to brush but it's completely visual (so once it looks about 50% just stop).
You can always add more in at a later time until you perfect the look you are trying to achieve.
If you keep reapplying before it fades or needs to be redone, then yes it will start to look really dark. That being said, (if done correctly) it will still look natural!
For men's hair, I always use a natural ash. The level will depend on how dark you want it to look. Because you are 80-90% grey, it will be obvious that you colored your hair anyways so it's ok to use a deeper brown (like a level 4 or 5). With some of my clients, they want it to be discreet so I start with a color thats only half a level darker than their natural. Unfortunately we dont have our own color line.
Our products though will help your colors to last a long time. check out www.nvenn.com
Isn't there a risk of color build up when comes the time to color again if you use the comb and don't only apply to roots? I also wonder if for people that have very resistant gray a 10 developper is enough and if they have to add a base to the Ash color.
No because all color fades. Plus their hair is short so it gets cut off quickly.
I'm terms of the developer. It would depend on the color line.
Great video. I started having my hair dyed, but it looks unnatural. I wish I came across this video earlier. I am going to send this to my stylist. I used to have my hair styled like the client in the video. The stylist I had for years was able to cut layers but for the last 20 years, I have not been able to find a stylist who can layer hair. They always say they can layer, but then they don't. I finally gave up. How do I find a stylist who can layer hair? If you were local, I would definitely want to be a client.
aw thank you :)
Just for men touch of grey, just apply it twice in the same sitting {using only the one bottle} and it is REALLY natural and it lasts and lasts, I was stuck because I was sick of dying it them as I have my back and sides chaved in having to dye it too often, it is nicer when it has some grey in and people loved it
yes definitely grey showing through is the 😍😍😍
BTW, we do monthly product giveaways! our next draw is happening tomorrow. you can enter at WWW.NVENN.COM/GIVEAWAY. you can RE-enter each month regardless of whether you win or not! 💖
By the time you combed all the colour in, it looked the same as if you would have brushed the colour over all of it.
Can you do a women’s short pixie with that method. Salt and pepper level 5
yes definitely! as long as you want a more natural diffused result it would work perfectly!
i'm not sure if you have entered before but we do a monthly product giveaway and the draw is happening tonight 💕if you want to enter, you can enter at www.nvenn.com/giveaway you can also RE-ENTER each month regardless of whether or not you have won before so you can re-enter tomorrow for february's draw! xoxo good luck 🙂
My natural hair colour is a level 2 and I have medium/slightly longer length hair for a guy. If I were to use a medium brown dye and apply it like you did with the comb, would that create a sort of natural highlighted look? I know black hair with brown wouldn’t exactly look natural, but just in terms of the colour placement.
hi jayson! thank you for checking out our newest video 😀 this is a great technique to soften grey for longer hair. we recommend for you to try it on a mannequin for the color to see if you like the finished result before doing it on yourself. hope this helps xoxo
Can you use same technique on a women’s hair? 😊
hi monica! sure thing :) do you know what length of hair they would have?
Pass her shoulders
yes this will still work for that length of hair and will help to soften the look even more 🙂
Thank you ! Live your channel ❤️
Love😅
What product are you using? Do you use a special gray blending dye, or just a regular dye somehow? Thanks!
Only permanent color can get rid of Grey. Just use 5vol so it's more translucent. Color choice and a light application is the key to it looking natural
@@nvennhairbeauty Ah, got you. Thanks!
@@willmosse3684 your welcome 🙂
What hair color product would you suggest us using that we can buy not being a beautician?
honestly, i would tell you if i knew. i haven't tried drug store color since I was in junior high💕. i would advise against it though. drug store colors have such a high peroxide (to help people get enough lift at home) BUT more often than not, its too strong for what we actually need and then people get hot roots (where there roots look lighter than the rest of their hair).

Looks like you combed so much that you covered all the hair
you can cover as much as you like. jason wants it mostly covered, i have others that only want it to slightly soften it. its just a great technique to avoid the "mop look" a solid color give men 😎
ps it's our 9th birthday today! we are giving away our clean dry shampoo! if you want to enter all you need to do is post a selfie on instagram. check out @nvennhairbeauty on insta for the details 🥳 winner will be announced tonight at 10pm MST #goodluck
you didn't let us see his finished dyed hair without the glasses to compare to no glasses before dyeing! hiding something?
i think his skin looked better before because darker hair color highlights wrinkles on older men, especially pale white guys.
he may want to consider going light/medium brown overall and gray. dark colors look horrible on pale white guys with wrinkles :( (white ppl in general wrinkle pretty bad as they age unless they spent almost no time in the sun). the gray actually distracts the viewers eye from the wrinkles in pale white guys so you want lighter colors, thinking light/medium brown, with small dirty blonde highlights on the top, and still some streaking of gray on the side. brad pitt does that combo very well.
best of luck.
you can actually see the finished result of his hair whether or not he is wearing glasses 😘
we don't subscribe to the way the "media" depicts people should look. we are actually comfortable with all people, all styles, all ages etc. this man actually loves his age and is comfortable in his skin. the color we chose is his natural color so that we can just soften the grey, not get rid of it.
our videos are here to help stylists learn techniques and not for an evaluation of our model's appearance 💕 the community we are growing is focused around loving ourselves (just the way we are xoxo).
sending you lots of love and good vibes xoxo
