I have one of these SP5s badged Griffin and George. I got it from a school jumble sale years ago, and it had never been used! It was £20 I think? It is sad that Mamod has closed and will obviously make spares a premium to purchase for anyone with Mamods in the future!

@@johngibson3837 thank you :) it’s a great engine. I’ve since fitted a pressure gauge so will need to run it to test that.
Not that I need an excuse :)

@@astravanmk2 that's the beauty of mamod just making them run and I don't mean powering themselves about (as a te1 might) as they didn't do that very well same with the belt attachments there's just not the power but my first one as a six year old did pretty good on mums lino tiled kitchen floor whilst leaving some sort off mess

Thanks John, it was a fabulous experience. I’d have been happy if I’d come away with nothing. This was just the cherry on top.

This looks so traditional and close to what I had as a boy. Mind you this steam valving on the piston is very much simpler, I would prefer the secondary driven steam switch valve mechanism with little lubrication pots for maximum power and originality. But nevertheless it looks great.

Hi John. It might be useful to UK residents to remind them of the change in legislation regarding the solid fuel you use.

I know all about the solid fuel legislation. It’s a load of cobblers just a money making scheme. I’m just using up what I have left.

Not a patch on a Wilesco sorry , typical of us we never improve or move on so we go under.

@@metalman4141 I don’t remember saying it was better than a Wilesco at any point.
I am primarily a mamod collector and I like them for what they are.

I love Mamod I have about four models of steam engines and boilers one of them I have had it for the last 60 years!!!! With all due respect it seems the owner have not moved with the times looking at the factory it looks disorganized with old flyball presses cam operated lathes from the 60's if you do not move with the times you have had it typical English mentality if it works don't change it!!!!!

And I never for a minute said you had. I was pointing out the fact that Mamod remembers everything but learned nothing, you have to move with the times of go bust that’s all .

The flames coming out of the side looks a bit dodgy

Yes that’s me getting a bit giddy with the solid fuel. I don’t use it generally. 4 tabs in there.
Not a problem as long as you keep arms and other appendages away from the flames.
