Glad your cruise across Lake Simcoe was not too bad! Loved Ollie’s laps around the deck…good exercise! Kona continues to bark at Ollie…silly girl! Keep traveling safe❣️
Hey guys, been loving your videos. As I said before our marina is on lake simcoe and been anxiously waiting for these views. Cant wait ti see what you thought of the marine railway. Assuming that's in your next video. Scott
I love this channel !! not sure how I found it - but I love it. In another life (40 years ago) I crossed Lake Simcoe twice each way in a Happy Days house boat (they still may be on the water) - our BBQ got washed overboard !! If it wasn't for the beer we'd probably have turned back !!! Enjoy the Chute !!! I have a lot of catching up to do on your trip. I love you're doing this on the water - we moved to BC and took up Van Life .... be well ...Dave
Terrific. Nice to see our local "Craft Beer" (being enjoyed responsibly). -Good planning on the maintenance. - Thanks for sharing the intimate details of "Linda" and "Sara". Elliot is one smart cookie. Nice to see your "home made" meals. You should plan your next adventure to the I.S.S.! - Maybe.?
Orillia, the birthplace of two Canadian legends - Gordon Lightfoot and Stephen Leacock. The main street has seen better days but it is slowly improving. Our wedding reception was at the Birchmere Inn (now a seniors residence) which is located adjacent to the harbour. And as you leave Couchiching you will go by Washago where we were married. Then soon after the Big Chute. Woooohoooo.
Gordon Lightfoot was such an amazing talent. Hope you all got to play a few of his tunes while cruising those northern lakes. (Maybe hold off on The Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald until you’re on land🤔) Good on ya!
Just found your channel and binging through all of the great loop content. Have to say I think y’all eat better out there on your boat than I do most days at home. And the Ollie laps had me cracking up! Well done all around!!
In our day the Simcoe Charts had a warning on them to the effect of "Lake Simcoe subject to sudden storms without warning". Our days of cruising were back when there was no GPS/chart plotters and the only instruments on the helm station was a compass along with engine gauges. Watching you guys enjoying yourselves is very enjoyable for those of us who are no longer boating.
I don't know what's going on in our world, but the last few years I boated, (12 years ago now ) the winds have just been getting progressively worse. Your trip across Simcoe was pretty calm by todays standards. Orillia has lots to see and you wouldn't have had the time to see it all. As long as you stayed out of the Rama casino. Believe me, they are always the winners. They had a huge Ontario hospital. Closed now. ( A mental institution.) My first ex tried to have me committed, but told her I was too crazy even for them. So far guys, you haven't let me down on any of your videos. You have the knack of keeping viewers glued to your content. I can't wait to see your reaction to the scenery past Washago. Past that , is my opinion of heaven on earth. From there all the way to the North Channel in Georgian Bay.
Hey mike, funny you say that about the wind. It seems everyday we go out now its windy. My biggest complaint about boating now. I did tell my wife if we bought a sailboat instead we probably wouldn't get any wind at all. Here's hoping for a calmer summer ahead on lake simcoe. Scott
@@scottk229 Lol. My kinda luck too. I spent most of my life is the 30,000 islands in Georgian Bay and sailboat really wasn't practical. Narrow channels and I spent did alot out of channel and in shallow bays. Had an aluminum 37' and the draft with outdrives up was two and a half feet. Some of the little bays, we pulled the drives up and pulled it in the bay with our tender. Here is a little story about the wind. From Key Harbor to Britt is 10 miles. Fairly narrow channel. Strings of shoals on mainland side and same on open bay side but most were submerged. Weather called for 6' waves later in morning and forgot the wind speed. But 6' waves I could deal with no prob. Figured we would beat them anyway. So we left at 7 am. The weather dufus lied. When we got into point of no return, we were in 12' waves that were breaking over our flybridge. My friend was looking for markers with binocs. I was fighting to keep boat bow first into the waves coming from starboard. When we pulled into the Britt channel, the waiting boats, one guy on the radio said are you for F----ing real. I just said what, it's just a little bumpy. Our wives in the cabin said all they could see was water and foam. We excused ourselves we had to change our shorts and have a shower. That is something I never want to do again lol. Unless it says 2" chop and light breeze, my anchor is staying wet lol. And my rye and ginger won't get empty.
@@mikepech6822 well that's scary, we have had some bad ones on lake simcoe as well. 2 years ago we finally went up the trent to Georgian Bay. Never went in just stayes at the lock then turned around. I'm a little nervous about going in. But I think this year we will head in and check it out. I know it beautiful and all, but the rock are what scares me. Scott
@@scottk229 Stay in the channels and use common sense if you wander out. You'll be fine. Make sure you have charts. Paper or on line. I preferred paper. I have no faith in electronic gadgets. have both if you can, but paper is always there. Check weather, if you don't like what you hear, stay scootched in where you are. There are hundreds of thousands protected anchorages.
Cochiching is an interesting little lake.. The narrowest you came in through is a n 11:45 ativebfish wier, and when heading back into the Trent, stay in the channel, it's a wee tad rocky
I would tell you to make sure you visit such and such but this was last year. Had a great time anyway and glad you had no problems crossing Simco. Glad you didn't forget the maintennce.

Love following your journeys on the loop and look forward to many more. A question, Does the hour meter work on the main engine? Also have you cleaned the heat exchange on the main engine and transmission? Happy travels! Love your "how much does it cost" spreadsheets. Great for planning.
Yes, the hour meter does work! But not on the front (what we normally film) - our accurate hour meter is on the side of our helm station! Our transmission oil heat exchanger actually broke in 2021, when we were heading South for the Winter, and we replaced it then. The main heat exchanger hasn't been pressure tested and cleaned yet - thanks, Brian!
Enjoyed finding and watching your travels⚓Sorry if you already addressed this, but was there a noticeable improvement in fuel usage after getting your auto-pilot repaired? ⚓
Not really, the autopilot did save fuel, but on the Loop, we could only use it sparingly due to mainly navigating in small channels. I'm sure it made a difference on the open bodies of waters like Lake Simcoe!
Rewatching this with hubby. Didn’t puck up on this the first time, but I see the pump you use to change your oil uses a drill. I really like that (versus a 12 volt pump). Where did you get it?
Thanks! We found it at Home Depot, I think! It does the job :) If you search "oil drill pump" on Amazon you can also pick it up there. I think most of them work, even the cheaper variety (like ours was).
Funny watching the pup zoom around the deck! Nitpicky tip- dock line should be dead-ended on the pier and lines should be adjusted from the boat, not the pier. If you need to adjust lines due to changes in tide, current, wind, etc., you don't have to get off of the boat to do it. If you ever see ships tied to a bollard at a commercial wharf, the dead end of the dock lines is on the pier, not the ship so the watchstanders onboard can adjust lines using line handling gear onboard.
🏎️🏎️🏎️ Definitely right! I'd say too, that it is a bit situational on where you are docked. Another example might be when docking in a public place to loop the lines (start and finish at your cleat) back to your boat. This makes it harder for anyone to fiddle with your lines as well as you could let go in a hurry if you needed to.
Hi Eric, our pump is a Jabsco one. Here is a link to a similar one on Amazon, but I believe we picked it up at our local Home Depot back in the day for around ~20 bucks. Cheers amzn.to/3ztGV0f
Simcoe can be a cruel bi#$h... She's actually fairly deep in the big area, especially off big bay point (Barrie). Like 160 or deeper.. But, just off shore, bbp shoal goes up to like 3 feet, claimed quite a few

I live in Barrie on Lake Simcoe
Q? How do you get rid of old oil and filters?
Typically marinas will take old oil, and if the marina we're at doesn't take it, we hold it onboard until we find one that does!
It's similar to lake Erie
One shallow puddle. 😄
Crossing that lake in the afternoon would have been totally different. The lake gets worse as the day goes on.
It’s not called The Georgian Bay, just Georgian Bay.
?
No “The”
