      You can also bend on piano tho, it only requires a lot of heat!

    Just bought SWAM saxophones with all the juicy things, so I needed to confirm how much and how doable bends really are on sax. I'm not not a sax player but good god, are all the saxes lovely instruments.
    I wonder if there's anyone in the whole world who doesn't love sax :D
    Thanks for the video!

    Thank you very much for this super helpful quick lesson!! I have a concert in 2 days and have been working hard to be able to lip bend at a few parts for a song for a bit now. I think with a good amount of extra practice before, I’ll be able to nail it. Thanks!

    That was cool! Off I go to try on my next prac.I have been annoying my neighbours with this kind of mouth exercise using just the mouth piece during warm ups.Hopefully when I become that sax superstar they'll remember fondly. 😁👌

    A question and concern I’ve been having. How low can you bend a note on the alto saxophone? Can you bend up to a semitone or more? When I try to bend a semitone, the toner just shows I flattened the note, not necessarily bent to the lower semitone. Please help me out. Thanks.

    • @PaulHaywood
      @PaulHaywood  Рік тому +1

      Hi Eugenia, How's the sax learning going? For my one to one students i aim to get them playing with absolutely no bend at all to start with. only once you can play a note with no bends or wobbl;es should you start working on and adding in bends to your playing. It is very common for it to become a bad habit and be used far too often unmusically, therefore ruiing what would have otherwise sounded good. Check out my "How to sound more professional on saxophone" video. I talk about it in there.

    Is it possible to bend up? Not bend down then up, but bend up then down?

    • @PaulHaywood
      @PaulHaywood  6 років тому +2

      Yes it is but it's harder to get a big tuning change in the bend. You can tighten the embouchure by smiling the corner of your mouth and also by moving your tongue into an "eee"vowel shape then back to the relaxed "ah" position which should be standard. Hope that helps and thanks for the comment! :)

    • @PaulHaywood
      @PaulHaywood  6 років тому +1

      Lev La is it a very fast vibrato? Does it sound mechanical or robotic? Is it constant in it's speed? Perform a test by putting a wine cork or similar size object like an eraser down the bell of the saxophone. See if this dampens vibrations and stops the vibrato. If possible you could record a clip of it onto your youtube channel and send me a link to listen to. Thanks

    • @levla505
      @levla505 6 років тому +2

      Thank u verry mutch for quick responce ... i am now at work..but soon as posible i make a video..and post a link here ..its sounding robotic .

    • @PaulHaywood
      @PaulHaywood  6 років тому +2

      Lev La Ok could be a resonant frequency of the low notes vibrating a loosely seated pad. I have that problem occasionally on my Selmer alto. The Eb key vibrates and creates a strange fast robotic sound ruining the note. I'll have a listen and confirm when i hear your video. :)

You could just speak with a little more volume and diction, like when you play! I have been watching a lot of your videos and I really do learn a lot from them, I just wanted to offer a little feedback. Thanks!

    i've problem with the tongue tecnic, do you have a answer? can you teach me it?

    • @PaulHaywood
      @PaulHaywood  7 років тому +3

      Hi Fonzie, whats not working? :) Try and feel the difference in tongue position between saying "or" and "eee" . go back and forth ee or ee or ee or ee or. feel the difference. Then try and make the same tongue moveents while playibng a note on the sax. You can also lower the Jaw as you move the tongue to the "or" position. It's the widening of the tone chamber in the mouth and the slight lossening of the jaw/embouchure that lowers the pitch to make a bend down. Then just reverse the process and move from or to ee to raise it again. then there's te bending up sound. really hope that helps :)these techniques can take quite a while to master. keep at it. :)

    • @PaulHaywood
      @PaulHaywood  4 роки тому

      Hi, you can bend in every range of the saxophone, but it's easier in the mid to upper range, as you approach the low end of the sax you need to make more drastic changes to achieve the same amount of bend as higher up the sax. :)
