Shes the real deal. Ive been at this for years and NO ONE, not one channel on YT ever explains why you expand the track box and most wont even bother, and it never turns out quite like you want it.. its an absolute must. Shes really good. Ive been a Motion Graphics Designer for 11 years now, and I'm still always on the look out for better or different means of accomplishing many of the same things. I know most of this, but still, What an excellent channel.
That intro 😂😂😂😂 After Effects scared the crap out of me at first. Still a bit confused by it. This tutorial actually made it easier to understand lol. Great video Lila!!! PICKWHIP SWIRLIES FTW!!!
okay, so THIS is one of THOSE videos I wish I'd found around 10 months ago! Super easy to follow and to the point + is now saving me literally hours - brilliant!
A good quick tutorial, and a good memory refresher for me. When Lila is talking about her ring, and an "easy" object, what she means in you want to pick something that is well defined or high contrast to the surrounding area, that will make it easier for AE. When filming, if you don't think there may be something, on the hand for example, to track you could always put a dark sticker or pen mark there, and use AE''s new content aware feature, that's been available since CC 2019, to remove the dot.
for some reason tracker isnt highlighted after i click on the null and then on tracker; and this didnt work for me, but I appreciate the tutorial nonetheless Lila!
Lacey ❤❤❤ hahaha thank you, they are 100% real btw 😜 my thumbs broke though, so I have two short nails. Kinda weird but also practical for typing on my phone. Thank you girl, love you!!
I have a request - could you do a tutorial on how to correct tracking when it goes off course? I did a test last night and it worked for a few seconds then jumped to a different location. Was pretty confusing trying to figure out how to go back and correct the incorrect coordinates. :)
you can set at the options menu to stop tracking, in that ways it will stop if the tracking goes wrong, so that you can control the path of tracking easily
This is amazing! Quick question though, is there a way to "pause" the tracking, or should I just create multiple Null Objects? For example if I am tracking a piece of text on a wall and then someone walks across the frame, could I pause the tracking while they're in front of it and then resume once they've gone past it? Thanks!!
Hi Charlie! I would continue tracking it and then create a mask so the person can walk by or stand in front of it and the text will be behind the person. I hope that makes sense
0:51 Please let go of my hand. My palms are getting sweaty. On a serious note, great video! Anything that's a high contrast point tracks much better with AE it seems. It would also be an awesome video if you did one on fundamentals of explaining nulls. It's just not very intuitive for me so I end up cramming as much as I can into Premiere (which takes ages instead of using AE) 😅
Hahahaha, alright alright, I'll let go! Explaining nulls is a great idea, I'll see if I can make a video about that :-) hahaha you can definitely do it in Premiere too, I try to do as much in premiere as I can, but I'm trying to incorporate AE more and more into my workflow. Take care Dan!
thankyou so much, i am just starting to learn after effects this week and i am crash coursing through youtube trying to learn. thank you so much for this.
Thank you so much for this. I was panicking so hard coz I had a video to edit in a coupla hours and I'm a total noob at After Effects. You reassuring at the start of the video made it all okay ^_^
heee!! lovely meeting you! Glad you liked it, I wish I was more of an AE junkie hahaha. I'm incorporating it more and more in my workflow though. hope to see you around!!
Lila! Love this! I am definitely one of those afraid of AE. It is free for me with my package and there it sits!! This motivates me to move over there.
Hiiii Karen! Firstly, thank you so much! You should totally learn to use it. It's very convenient but it's scary I get it. I'm not a pro AE user so I'm with you. But I promise it's worth it!
If you don't have the window to the right that says track motion, go to the window menu and select tracker. I had to watch another video to get that because I'm slow.
I'm so glad that I found your video. Your guide, voice are clear and precise. You also done this step by step so me as a beginner can catch up so much easier. And you are so beautiful to boot! Thanks a lot and you just earned yourself another subscriber

400, that is a great number! I didnt even realise I had so many likes on this video, haha. If you ever have any questions, I'm here to (hopefully) answer them! Thanks joe, nice to meet ya!
hi, thanks for the tutorial! just had one question, do i have to analyze forward for every frame i want the tracker to actually move? basically i was analyzing for the first few frames(clicking the play button in the tracker tab) and i thought maybe it would speed up the process if i just applied it. but it seems that after applying it, it only tracks the portion that you actually analyzed, and then the text will just stop moving once it reaches frames that you didn't analyze using the tracker tab
True. You have to run the auto tracker for the entire clip if you want it to be tracked. After effects needs to analyse every frame. So depending on the clip it will take a while for it all to be analysed, but then you don't have to go and adjust every frame manually.
If you're a little bit creative with it, for sure! Look up one of those "beats by dre tracking" tutorials and then you just need to create keyframes for the scale so you'll create a zoom effect :)
I’ve been manually moving the frames manually myself for years only to realize this exists? Wow, I kinda wanna cry and pat myself on the back for the amount of effort I put in some edits lol
Thanks a lot, but I used motion track alright as so and unfortunately the issue is my text still looks like possessed and scaling and changing position, making my work look like it being made by an armature, I was hopping to see if there's more to it, or is there a trick to make your text, no matter the background, still stick to whatever perspective you attach it to it.
Aloha Lila! Mahalos for this tutorial! In the last six months, I have taken a crash course in Adobe products. I am falling in love with After Effects though and really appreciate these tutorials. The clip I am using is rather large and is taking forever to analyze once I click the analyze button. Do I have to let it analyze the whole clip, or can I stop it once it is past the area I need the text to adhere to?
I'm pretty sure you can just stop it! If you stop it, there won't be any other key frames generated which means it will just stay at the position of the last key frame. So you can cut the text layer (or whatever you're using) right there if you want it to disappear immediately or go a few key frames back, create keyframe for the scale/opacity (all optional, depends on your preferred animation) and go back to the last key frame and down scale and/or lower the opacity to make it disappear a bit more smoothly. Just some thoughts, I hope it helps!!
@@lilafromyoutube Mahalos for your reply. I was able get the desired effect but immediately ran into another challenge.. Maybe you have a tutorial on it? I tried searching but I'm pretty sure I'm not accurately describing it. I have footage of a cup of coffee sitting on a wooden table. The camera is centered directly over the cup of coffee. Instead of coffee in the cup, there is a video of a beach scene. The camera zooms in until it's only the beach footage with the rim of the cup at the edges. The challenge in having is adding text inside the cup to the beach scene. I can add text or images etc..., but it will show on the outside of the cup until it's zoomed in. I was trying to create a second layer that is the cup. Like a drone flying up to a window. There is a second layer as you pass the window threshold. Similar to to a movie set. An actor walks up to the door of a facade, camera cuts to inside on sound stage. Outside is layer 1. Inside is layer 2. Lol. It's hard to explain 🤯.
Lila - just wondering why you don't just turn AF off? You're not moving significantly back and forth... wouldn't have thought you'd need AF. :-) Most people don't care about it shifting though so I wouldn't worry too much about it; you are always your own worst critic. The one I can never go without adding text to is errors in my English, I always have to add a subtitle that says "I meant _____." even though no one else cares. P.S. Thank you so much for holding my hand through After Effects. I'll give it a go soon, got a big video coming up about 1000 day Duolingo streak that will need some effects haha.
I always use AF because I do move forward and backward quite a bit. But I think there's a defect in my lens (apparenty it got a big hit) but right now I don't have the time to send it for repair because of LA. I'll ask cody how to make videos with a manual lens 😂 You're welcome btw! Happy to have held your hand hahaha. What, a 100 day duolingo streak? Crazy! I'm looking forward to hearing about your experience!
