It was for sure in my personal top 3. I understand if it's too niche for a win, but it REALLY did not deserve that last place. Top half for sure.
The only disappointment with this was the unimaginative backdrop, which left the band exposed rather than immersed. Another shock to the event.
Really surprised Juries slept on this. But this can happen with many quality songs...

There are a few other contenders, like when Austria got 0 points in 2015, but yeah you might be right.
It was probably the best song ever. I say this as someone who worked their ass off in conservatory, studying both jazz and classical, both improvisation and Schenkerian analysis, both tone rows and carnatic shruties. I lack the folk music cred though. I'd prefer a stronger instrumental part and more distinct guitars. But alas, this is Eurovision, the most unhealthy type of musical fast food. No surprise to me this song did horrible with both the jury and the televoting.
The fact that this song took the last place proves that Eurovision is not about music anymore. Don't worry, your song is great. In fact, it was too good for Eurovision. I personally loved it and play it on repeat. Greetings and love from Greece ♥

Кринжово всё: и нелепые движения британца Олли, и престарелая "шальная императрица" из Испании, и финн из яйца, и девка в капронках без трусов... Ах да, была ещё ведьма из Ирландии. Кунсткамера, блин! Даже обидно за исполнителей вроде Иоланты из Португалии.

метал фолк не так популярен по миру(это у нас мельница есть) + есть придирки к некоторым нотам у исполнительницы. Но невозможно не согласиться, что это выступление явно лучше некоторых других и последнего места не заслуживает. Латвия, литва, эстония, все выступили хуже норвегии

People always say " why don't Eurovision entries sing in their own language", this song coming last shows why they don't.
yeah, that was also my thought. Norway had english songs since 2007, decided to finally do a norwegian song again and this is what they get. Other countries like France and Italy get many points nonetheless. Even if I didn't understand a word from this song, I really liked it, mostly the vocal part without text
The Dutch song would have won had they not boycotted it and it was in Dutch. This song was too musically sophisticated. No one in the audience who was not a professional musician would have been able to sing the melody, or even remember it.

This was probably the last time you hear Norwegian in Eurovision. When an acclaimed band like Gåte gets ridiculed like this, we wont send quality anymore, and known artists will stay away from the competition also unfortunately. Its clear the juries doesnt follow the criteria they should vote for. The juries hates everything we send and Norway is one of the most diverse countries in Eurovision. We have sent every genre the last 10-15 years. Its a joke. They reward other countries sending songs in their own language, like Ukraine, France, Italy, Armenia, Slovenia, Portugal, Spain.….but Norwegian isnt exotic enough. I remember we sent a beautiful song in Norwegian in 2006 «Alvedansen» which only came 14th. That was the last time we sent a Norwegian song…

I really don't get it. I'm Norwegian hence obviously biased, but just shocked by the last place. Like wtf.

- The commentators loved it.

I completely agree with you as this is my favourite song in the contest, but I think what happened was a combination of two things:
- Norway had to compete with Ireland, because a lot of people seemed to think those two were similar in some way. I don't understand why, but that's what they thought. Ireland's song was also very good imo, so this already is a big obstacle.
- The voting system doesn't really accomodate acts that a lot of people "like" but don't "love". If it's not in the top, it gets no points and I think for a lot of people Norway was just outside of that voting range. I still don't get why. The layered vocals near the end are incredible.

I have a real conspiracy theory 😁. I followed the comments on SoMe Friday and saturday, and discovered a lot of comments from people who urged everybody to vote for Croatia or Switzerland to try to prevent Israel to win the contest. And do this despite their original plan. Could this have effected this mysterious result? Or maybe this is just my rich inner life...🤔😊

Dutch guy here, voted for Norway. One of only 3-4 acts that actually displayed amazing musicianship, songwriting, performance, and uniqueness. Norway should have ended up in at least the Top 5. Guess the juries don't care for actual musicianship and skill.

They are an amazing band and this song gave the world a piece of our ancient soul and form of singig mixed wonderfully with modern rock/metal elememts whish is what they have been doing in their unique way since 1999. The 1000 year old story and the primal feeeling of the music is universal even if its very Norwegian. Breaking free from an evil oppressor.
The juries consist of only tiktok artists or something, this is an absolute disgrace.

not the first time, and most likely not the last time either. however, Croatia should have won this year. Switzerland only was 5th place in the televote, but the jury pushed it all the way to the top.

People will vote for what they like. This is the first time since 2017 the jury gave us more points than the public.
I feel like this was easily the best song in the whole of Eurovision. It was composed really well and it sounded so epic and had a real theme going on unlike other songs in the eurovision.

Netherlands and Norway were among my favorites. There were some I liked among those who didn't make it to the semi-finals. This injustice is what keeps Turkey away from Eurovision. I guess being at the extreme is the criterion to win Eurovision. Türkiye'den sevgiler Hollanda ve Norveç iyiydi.

Last place? Seriously?? A beautiful song and an amazing performance. I'm from Sweden, we almost always send generic pop to eurovision, but I wish we could send something like this!
There's a Swedish Folk Rock band called Garmarna, who have also been an influence for Gåte, and they participated in the Swedish pre-election for Eurovision with their song "En gång ska han gråta" in 1997, but didn't make it. You find the clip of their performance here on youtube. Personally, I don't think it's as strong as "Ulveham" and doesn't have the rock influences, but Garmarna are worth checking out. Fun fact: the lyrics of the title song of Garmarna's third album "Vedergällningen" (1999) are taken from the Swedish version of the same medieval ballad which the lyrics of "Ulveham" are based on. I also recommend to check out the original full-length version of "Ulveham" which is about twice as long as the ESC-version.

How low do they vote vocal delivery? Her vocal delivery was by far the most difficult and best executed. Such strong, delicate, and clear vocals with such a force.

I'll tell you how. Most of the juries are probably from the old generation and they can't appreciate the modern and beautiful music. It's alternative and as a genre is a little bit different but definitely they didn't deserve the last place. They are actually very good and wish them very luck in future.

I don’t think we will try that again in a while. This was a particular Norwegian singing text and dialect though. Some countries have the advantage that people love when they sing in their native language. (France, italy, spain).

@@ClvrkzNorwegian here. Very sad and surprised that we came last, but I voted for Switzerland, and they ruled the evening so thoroughly I don't think their victory can be chalked up to LGBT activism. It was simply a very good song&voice. Ukraine's song was beautiful, too. Not saying they didn't get agenda votes, but those votes are rarely enough.

I agree it's unfair but I'm Norwegian and I have an actual music education, and I think if the mix had been better, and with a vocalist whose voice isn't drowned out by the guitar frequencies (they match too closely, and the mix being what it is doesn't compensate), this would have been a winner.
I speak this lady's dialect and I can barely make out a couple of words. The equalisation is all over the place, the instruments aren't spread out enough to not drown each other out (in the mix) and, all in all, it turned what was probably an amazing song into a barely intelligible cacophony of noise.
Whoever was in charge of the sound for Norway should be fired. I've only ever heard mixes this bad in the classroom.

This comes off way noisier and muffled than it should, and for first time listeners I can imagine it makes it harder to appreciate what's actually going on. Disagree about the vocalist though, she has an amazing voice, and has been solid throughout. Unfortunately I think the nerves got to her a bit in this specific performance.

This Song never had to grow on me because it was my absolute favourite from the get go. Thank you Norway for keeping the standard this high, what an exceptional performance.
My fav this year. I listen to Drum'n'Bass or Techno 90% of the time, but in the last few days this song (Full 5 min version) is on repeat. What an amazing masterpiece! Everything is perfect in this song. I am in love with the vocals, drums and the melody, the volcano of emotions. Add amazing visuals and performance... When I heard it in the final, I was convinced Norway was going to win! But I am not surprised that the average public and jury that represents the public placed it at the bottom of their list. It is not for everyone, this song is more for music-loving people, for audiophiles

As a german who was also a bit shocked about our last place finish in 2023 I want to say that this last place is not deserved! I've voted for you and Norway is still my Eurovision 2024-favorite. I really want to see them live this December when they come to Germany and Austria!

I'm admittedly not good at predicting the chances of songs at the ESC, but how this song could come last still escapes me. For me it is original, quite catchy and the stage show is actually very fitting and appealing. I wish the band every success beyond Eurovision!
