After rewatching this season (this season is my fave! so take this as it is), I understand the modiste street scene but I can also see where you're coming from. I think the whole scene was a slap to his face. This is the first time someone truly said how they love him for JUST being him. He has been pretending, he had been insecure (his family thinks he's a chore when he's talking about his travels, everyone thinks he's immature for not sowing his wild oughts and for not being a rake "man") and now he's questioning himself as a writer because he can brag and proud about it to Pen but then Pen is THE lady whistledown. Everything is collapsing until he heard how Pen loved him for being him and to declare that she truly loves him. He will always be enough. I might be stretching but i just wanna say my take hehe :)) hope you guys feel the same and I hope you enjoy this season like I did! 💛
Colin is such an interesting character. When we meet him he is sweet, young and naive. It's clear he is inexperienced and romantic. He's kind and caring towards Pen and appreciates her personality and her company. We can see that even though she's a little too young still (I think she is 16 in the first season, and he is 20), he seeks her out and wants to actually spend time with her. After meeting Marina he becomes excited that a beautiful young woman with many suitors is paying attention to him and taking him seriously when not even his family does so. After the truth about her gets revealed (in such an awful way) and he goes to talk to her, he finally sees the real Marina (cold and not at all in love with him) and something inside him breaks. His happy and sheltered Bridgerton bubble breaks (especially after Anthony's crass speech about him getting his dick wet). When we see him again he is lost (drinking a lot, using substances). The only good thing going on for him it's the letters he and Pen exchange. She is the only person (apart from Phillip) who shows any interest in his stories. It's clear he cares for her, but is confused. Gen says in this season that before we love someone we have to love and accept ourselves and I don't think he's done that yet. He thinks he has to fit a mold his brother fit, because otherwise no one will take him seriously. The mean thing we see him say about Pen at the end of the episode is probably him being defensive at being questioned about it. He wants to show he is a serious man and not a boy anymore. In s3 we see the culmination of years of feeling worthless and comparing worth to servitude. Colin thinks people will only accept him and love him if he has something to offer them, and not for who he really is, because let's face it, not many people appreciate his brand of nerdiness. I like how he immediately tries to fix his mistakes with Pen when he arrives. You can tell he truly misses her. At this point, we have to understand Colin didn't know Pen had feelings for him, or had any reason to believe she did. Not even her closest friend realized that. She's only been one type of Pen around him, and certainly not the assertive, confident, one we'll come to see. Once she asks him for a kiss, is like a whole new world opens up to him. So many possibilities. And we all know that when Colin likes a girl the BOY IS FAST. He wants to secure his woman before someone else does. The things about LW is that, Colin has NEVER known Pen to lie. She is a COMPULSIVE LIAR honestly, but it's a side of her he's never been shown. She didn't entrap him, but she certainly knew she was hiding something, and did not tell him (or even attempted to) before she allowed him to take liberties. Had not been for Eloise putting her foot down, I don't think she would so soon. So, he's been lied to before (someone literally tried to entrap him before), if she can lie about so much, what else isn't she lying about? Does she even love him for real? Colin is a man who struggles to have any self worth, so of course he's going to have a hard time believing Pen truly cares for him when she's been lying to his face for so long. He gets a week to be angry and gets over it, while Eloise spent MONTHS angry at Pen, and people still think he has no right to that. If anything, he got over it so fast. Man is down bad. When he said mean things to Pen at the end of s2 people were so upset with him, but she lies and lies and lies TO HIS FACE and he's not allowed to be upset? Stupid take. He's so nuanced, so interesting and deep (also feral and unhinged) I really love his character. It's a shame people don't take a closer look to appreciate it too, because this is some good writing and character building right there. Sorry about the long rant, I just have many feels about this topic.
Yes it’s this exactly! When people remember the context that Colin’s insecurity is that he is not worthy of Pen’s love it makes complete sense! He is asking what his worth is to her if he can’t protect her and her response is I love you to say that’s all I need/care about. So to hear that the person he loves more than anything also loves him for being him…it makes total sense that he has that reaction.
@fmellark I agree with you totally. The only other thing I would add is that being a very wealthy man, who is not the eldest, living in the 19th century, Colin must still be seen to provide and protect his wife. So, through his insecurities, Colin views Pen's independence as something that takes away her need of these things he should provide. This is not true of course but I believe this is how he views it and this causes some of the pain he feels. And I also agree that Colin and Penelope's character development has been superb.
This season felt the most real to me. Colin was insecure (especially where men didn't have to deal with their wives being successful & challenging those gender roles.) At the end of the day, she's Lady Whistledown & he's jealous of that. It's a big deal for him to deal with those feelings. To people-pleaser Colin Bridgerton, Penelope telling him she loves him for who he is, not for the "strong facade" men are expected to put on means a lot. After the whole Marina situation in season 1, he tried to act like his brothers. Much like Penelope being reckless as Lady Whistledown at first (she regrets some of the things she wrote) but, she's not allowed to express these emotions directly because she's a woman. She's learning how to be more bold in her real life. This season felt like both Colin & Penelope being more honest about who they are. Colin dropping the facade & being a nerdy lover-boy and Penelope asking for what she wants in real life.
I love how almost everyone who watched the wedding felt like they were close relatives/friends of the bride crying for her happiness and how in the mirror scene, we all felt like we were intruding on someone else's personal space. God, I love this season.
So 7 is one of my favourites of season 3 and probably my favourite of part two. Love the wedding and dance and I love the angst too. The opening is played so well by Luke. And I love the scene outside the modiste. You have to remember Colin is questioning everything now he knows she’s been keeping this secret from him. He was scared in ep 5 she didn’t return his feelings and he’s unsurprisingly confused here. Plus he think s he has to be of use to her to have a purpose, so her saying she can take care of herself makes him feel useless. The fact she so strongly declares her love, he can see it that it’s the truth and I love how it stuns him, before all that passion comes out between them. Plus let’s not forget they’re both tipsy here, hence letting the passion spill out on the street.
When you think about how emotions are connected to physical intimacy for Colin it might not feel forced then! We see that before and after he finds out about LW his insecurity is that he is not worthy of Pen’s love. So he feels like if he does things for her and proves his worth then he can feel deserving of her love. Her “I love you” in response to his “what good am I to you” elicits such a reaction because she is saying that is his worth. You don’t have to do anything but be yourself for me to love you and he’s earned her love by being him long ago. So, hearing that his love is returned by his best friend who sees him and understands him unlike anyone else brings about that response. Because the emotional and the physical are connected for him! That’s why a lot of fans say Colin is demisexual coded.
i actually love this season way more than season 2 and i know it may be different for others but personally i enjoyed how more realistic Polin felt. maybe i just love friends to lovers more and enemies lol season 2 it took until the last ep for them to be together. love kate though 😭where as with colin and pen i feel like we see more of them navigating through the difficulties. i actually liked the argument in the alley and the nod during the aisle walk, i feel like it shows how even though he is still upset he still loves her and wants to marry her. this season just touched me more also because it touches on other subjects like the friendship, siblings, mother to daughter. i just love colin and pen 💛
I agree. I particularly like this season because we know Pen and Colin so well already. They are both rich and interesting character with realistic flaws. Pen's fear of telling Colin about LW is understandable, and his anger is justified. And even though he is upset (she lied about so much, and he's been cruelly deceived before) and he is hurt, he still loves her and wants to be with her. My man took a week to get over it, while many other male leads would milk that shit for ages (Anthony got so petty because Kate didn't think he was good enough for her sister that he PROPOSED TO THE GIRL even though he KNEW he wanted Kate... ffs). He was understandably upset, but his love and admiration for her outshines that in the end, and that's how they were able to get over their issues and be happy together. This is some great story telling. It's just what I want to see.
My favorite couple is Penelope & Colin too. They're best friends, they already like and respect each other before their love story begins. There's joy and consent from the start. In seasons 1 and 2, a lot of the interactions between Daphne & Simon and Kate & Anthony are about animosity, mixed with lust, and not much respect for the other person. Simon would rather die than marry Daphne. He lies to her, and when she finds out, she forces him. The whole mess between Kate and Anthony and Edwina. Anthony's line to Kate, "You are the bane of my existence, and the object of all my desires" is iconic, for sure. But what he's actually saying is, "I really want you, but I don't like you, I see you as a problem, and I'd rather marry your sister than face my feelings." I'm not saying that Daphne & Simon and Kate & Anthony don't love each other, or that Penelope & Colin don't go through problems. But to me, Penelope & Colin have a more solid foundation from the start than the others.
Not to make you more emotional (though i do love how open you are, it's so wonderful and touching to see!) but Colin's reaction to seeing Penelope first walk down the aisle was Luke, the actor, genuine reaction as the director made sure he didn't see Nicola in her brides outfit before the take!
I personally love this season. I adore Pen and Colin, their love evolved from friendship which the others didn’t. The only thing that bothered me about this episode was that the Queen barged in to their wedding reception and sent everyone away. I thought that was so disrespectful.
This season frustrated me so much because I just wanted more of it! More Penelope and Colin time. They are my favorite couple by far. The scene outside the modiste felt a little forced the first time I watched it, too. But, then I went back and rewatched and realized that their most passionate moments are always accompanied by some sort of declaration of love. Their feelings are what drives their passion. So, her declaring herself so forcefully was the hottest thing she could have possibly done in Colin's eyes. Also, they had both been drinking. And they're in their twenties. A light breeze could get them going at that age.
I definitely enjoyed this season myself far more than the other one lol but I think ALOT of concerns comes from some scenes feeling forced like the one I pointed out. I still think it was a solid and cute season 🥹 and awww thank you so much 🫶🏾
@@wwhn I agree that scene did feel a bit forced but at the same time they only had one episode left so they didn't really have time to draw it out. Can't wait for your next reaction 🙂
I love your reactions so much! They're my favorite (and I watch a lot of reactions). About what you said, that Penelope and Colin's situation looked similar to Daphne and Simon's. I think they're quite different, because Penelope and Colin actually respect each other enough to take the time to work through their problems, to figure out their feelings. So many of Daphne and Simon's interactions, and Kate and Anthony's too, in their own seasons, are more about lust, and fighting their own feelings, than actually respecting the other person. I'm not saying that they don't love each other, but the beginning of both of their love stories wasn't actually very healthy.
I'm a month late on this, but the reason Colin folded so quickly when Penelope told him that she loved him in their fight is because that's the root fear that's behind most of his anger. He actually has pretty low self-worth and feels like he has to DO something to earn or deserve her love. He was trying to prove himself to her by writing his book (which he told her in episode 6), which is why he is so humiliated now, thinking of her letting him go on and on about it. And the only other way their society has or men to earn/deserve love is to protect and provide for their wives and families. And not only does she suddenly have her own personal fortune, but she doesn't even need him to protect her ("You've been putting yourself in danger" "Colin, I can take care of myself!" "Then what good am I to you?"). This all terrifies him because he already thought she was out of his league, and if she doesn't need him at all, why would she ever love him? He's scared of losing her love because he can't do anything to earn it. So when she says she loves him in that moment, it temporarily overwhelms his anger, because it was the fear that she wouldn't love him that was driving it.
Oh also, thank you for sharing your honest thoughts and feelings! This is a show that has given us joy and even tears! Let us celebrate it instead of hating it 😌
I am all "Bridgertoned" out for the season, but I'm not gonna miss any of your content. Loved the reaction... Never apologise for getting emotional. We enjoy your reactions because it's so honest ❤
@@wwhn I enjoyed this seasons main couple and I insert Nicola and Luke's faces to my own book memories, but I do watch your channel for you, not any particular show. I'm not here for the plot, I'm here for the vibes 😋
Colin has low self esteem- he genuinely believes he isa not good enough for pen- he second guess that she wants to be with him atleast twice after getting engaged so he needed to hear penn say I love you twice to reaffirm it to snap him out of it- he really doesn't believe he deserves someone as wonderful as penn and is also jealous of her success which is obvious durring that conversation when he says what is the most humiliating was talking about his writing saying how great it is and yet she is published and he is not so how can he actually be a good writer (inner thoughts)
14:00 I COMPLETELY agree with you here. I also thought the scene and dialogue was a bit rushed and that there was something missing. When Colin says “what good am i to you?” i feel like it would have been more powerful for penelope say “Colin i NEED you” or something along those lines. He is basically so insecure that he feels like he has to be needed for something in their relationship but that point was never relayed into the message of the scene. idk i just craved something more a bit more dialogue about Penelope needing colin and that his worth to her is not defined by protecting her. that she just wants him because she loves him and needs him in her life.
i had the same thought with the street kiss, i feel like it needed even just a couple more lines of dialogue before the kiss. I think Colin, before she said i love you, truly thought she didn''t actually love him - he's very insecure and feels unworthy of her (as he said in ep 6) but to hear her finally actually say the words i think took him off guard. He gives me demisexual vibes too and i think with how emotional and stressed they both are, it just temporarily overcame both of them hence the kiss. But still... a few more lines of dialogue, like maybe him not believing her or something about her feelings would make it feel less jarring and forced
I get that, but I think (this is the way I saw it) that he was just desperate for validation. We have to take into consideration that Colin didn't know Pen loved him for years. Then she tells him, only after he's confessed himself multiple times, and right after that he finds out she's lying and hiding secrets. So obviously he's going to question everything she's ever said to him. That fight is the culmination of a lot of things left unsaid between them. They had yet to have a proper conversation about LW. He wants, more than anything, to be NEEDED by her because that's what he thinks love is. He thinks he'll only be loved if he is useful. May be a side effect from having too many siblings. His "what good am I to you" line says a lot. Pen can take care of herself, so why would she need him, and if she doesn't have need for him, why would she love him? She makes it clear that she needs him BECAUSE she loves him and not otherwise. His demisexual ass just gets ultimately horny on LOVE. He's angry, slightly drunk, and frustrated, but he is also desperate for her (we've seen that since he started to spiral in ep3). He wants her to love him more than anything, and for a moment there, he can forget their problem and bask on that.
Rich fancy people paying visits would have their set Visiting Hours and then their servants would basically just make a fresh pot of tea every 15-20 minutes to keep it from being cold or too bitter.
I loved your reaction. I actually found you watching Heartstopper reactions a while ago, and i always thought that you are such a sweet person. You shine through your emotions, you know? That's why your reactions are so lovely. You sparkle! A true diamond ❤ And I relate because I was very emotive too while watching this episode. 3x07 slowly but surely became my favourite episode of S3. I think that commiting to your partner when things are not completely right but love is still strong is a testemony to what a true marriage is. And in this episode that is a lot of love in the pain they are feeling. It's touching. Two of my favorite scenes are in this episode, the confrontation/kiss outside the modiste and that beautiful pride and prejudice wedding dance. Why the Queen had to ruin their wedding breakfast??? About the kiss outside the modiste, I think Colin was in a state of mind where he was questioning Penelope's love for him. Maybe that's why he said that line about entrapment, given his history with Marina in S1. He is feeling a lot of mixed emotions, he is angry, he has a bit of a hero complex, a wounded ego, sadness, fear. But he also loves her, and when he asks "what good am I to you?" He is saying that he isn't worth of her love because she doesn't need him. Because as Violet said in episode 4, he is always trying to please others. To be useful. And Pen just says "I love you" meaning he doesn't need to save her to be worth of her love. Something no one said to him. Marina used his hero complex against him, to actually entrap him. While Pen is implying "you don't need to do that with me" There is a lot of negativity online around this season, most of what I saw came from book readers that didn't like the changes to Colin character. But the reviews from big sites are really good. And I enjoyed a lot, it's my favourite season. Most people loved it, but haters are loud. There is a lot of subtle homophobia, too. I suspect that future seasons will suffer even more with online hate because it seems like they are doing a lot of changes in the next seasons, that will lead to completely change stories from the books. We'll see.
You was tearing up like me on this episode lol I wasn’t NO GOOD during this wedding! She walked down the aisle to “Yellow” by Coldplay. AND Nicola and the director did not let Luke see her in her dress before walking down the aisle so the take you see is his first reaction! I loved everything about that wedding! 💛💛💛 Baaaaby I screamed when Benedict kissed Mr Suarez! LOL whew!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Polin needed more screentime like this episode I liked especially the street fight but it needed much more dialogue I loved the kiss but it felt like it came out of nowhere
I watched all of Bridgerton so I could watch all of your season 3 videos 💜✨️ It was so worth it 😊 looking forward to having a C4 and watching episode 8 with you 🌟
My only complaint about this season is the same one I had about s2. The main couple NEEDED MORE SCREEN TIME! Don't get me wrong, I like Benedict, I do. He's funny, but honestly, other than that, he's kind of boring. s1 he had about nothing to do, while the other characters at least had something going on (Eloise/Pen + Colin/Pen/Marina + Anthony/Actress woman + Anthony being a dick to Daphne + Violet being the best mom ever + Simon/Will). In s2 they gave him some potential with the art storyline, but now they completely forgot about that. This season was so bad for him. Nobody really care about his fuckfest with Tilly and the other guy. If they cut his sex scenes in half we could've had more focus on the main couple. In s2 it was frustrating to me for the same reason. I wanted more focus on Kanthony. We didn't even get to see their wedding for christ's sakes! And that season irked me because the main "obstacle" for the couple was of Anthony's own making. The drama felt cheap because he was the one creating it because he was a stubborn asshole, while Kate was perfect (ily Kate). This season was better in terms of that because at least we had many scenes of Polin being actually happy (before and some even after the big reveal), and I felt the tension, and Colin's anger was actually justified (who the hell likes being lied to?), but still I think we needed more. It was lacking a little bit in that department. Either they could cut Benedict's expendable storyline in half (honestly, everyone knows he would not end up with Tilly, and if Sophie isn't a man, the bisexual storyline was useless) or add two more episodes. They did neither and I think that was a disservice to season. Other than that, I really loved it. This couple is def my favorite so far.
I love your reaction my favorite show. I relate to Pen sometimes very much my favorite character. I love that gay part pride month beautiful, wonderful.🥰🏳️🌈
Tbh so many scenes this season felt forced and the actors have so much chemistry in real life so I don’t get it 😭 I enjoyed this season but it will never beat season 2 for me lmao. Can’t wait for episode 8 reaction!
listennnn I definitely can see the “forced” part because that night alley scene….wasn’t it. I feel like it was trying to give Charlotte and George moment but it fell flat HARD!
thank you so muuuch 😭 and you think so?? I can I enjoyed season 3 for the most part although I think in this episode some things start to fall alittle flat *side eye*
@@wwhn I think overall season 3 was just uneven somehow. I loved parts of it a lot but sometimes I thought 'What is going on' lol I hope Netflix won't do us wrong as always (they cut the budget on most shows after the 2nd season) I'm waiting the next season!!!! It will be the queer season with Benedict!

But what he's actually saying is, "I really want you, but I don't like you, I see you as a problem, and I'd rather marry your sister than face my feelings."
I'm not saying that Daphne & Simon and Kate & Anthony don't love each other, or that Penelope & Colin don't go through problems.
I adore Colin and Pen…but can we just TALK about how my boo Anthony is such a soft boy now that he’s found his HEA?! 🥹🥹🥹
Notice Penelope's wedding dress isn't pure white but slightly blush pink. 😉
I LOVE Lady Danbury’s style!
🚬🎩💅🏾
As the TRUE moulder of Society, her personal style is such a triumph!!!
I love this season. I know a lot of people didn't but i personally will never understand why. Polin all the way ❤️ Also i love all of your reactions 🙂
I agree! I loved this season. I don’t understand all the negativity around season 3, they can’t all be completely conformed to the books.
@@michellebarry1555 exactly. The changes were also discussed and agreed upon by all parties. Loved this season. I've just finished Queen Charlotte 😭
@@cathymills4175 I LOVE Queen Charlotte! ☺️
So when she says she loves him in that moment, it temporarily overwhelms his anger, because it was the fear that she wouldn't love him that was driving it.
i ain’t never screamed so loud in my life when i he said “you are lady whistledown” love your videos tho ive been watching since hunger games
We enjoy your reactions because it's so honest ❤
listennnnn I too am ready to move on from miss Bridgerton season 3 😂😂 and aw thank you so much 🥹 it truly means a lot!! 🤍🤍🤍
@@wwhn I enjoyed this seasons main couple and I insert Nicola and Luke's faces to my own book memories, but I do watch your channel for you, not any particular show. I'm not here for the plot, I'm here for the vibes 😋
14:20 Yes baby I’m with you, writing honestly felt a bit rushed to solve conflicts but I enjoyed it anyway 😊
0:31 hahahaha NO ONE agrees on this season!😂❤ This is my favorite episode. I LOVE Polin. Their wedding moves me all the time. 🩷💒
i had the same thought with the street kiss, i feel like it needed even just a couple more lines of dialogue before the kiss.
I knew this would get tears from you! So excited for the last episode, happy pride 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
While Pen is implying "you don't need to do that with me"
There is a lot of negativity online around this season, most of what I saw came from book readers that didn't like the changes to Colin character. We'll see.
Glad you’re liking this season!
Baaaaby I screamed when Benedict kissed Mr Suarez! LOL whew!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Polin needed more screentime like this episode I liked especially the street fight but it needed much more dialogue I loved the kiss but it felt like it came out of nowhere
I watched all of Bridgerton so I could watch all of your season 3 videos 💜✨️ It was so worth it 😊 looking forward to having a C4 and watching episode 8 with you 🌟
Penelope is like Sansa Stark of Bridgerton. She can never catch a break.
Loved your reaction to this, thank you for sharing it :)
6:23 chit meaning arrogant or impertinent young woman
love your reactions !! 🫶🏻
Benedict is mine, you need to step OFF 😡😂🤣🤣
😂😂 Lol can we share friend? he’s kinda FIONE 😂😂
Omg yaaaay i woke up to this🫶🏽🫶🏽
I love your reaction my favorite show. I relate to Pen sometimes very much my favorite character. I love that gay part pride month beautiful, wonderful.🥰🏳️🌈
Newbie, your energy is fire😊😊😊😊
Not you grabbing the mic. Please.
I love your channel and your reactions...but. I'm now anticipating hate lol Season 3 was not great😭
thank you so muuuch 😭 and you think so?? I can I enjoyed season 3 for the most part although I think in this episode some things start to fall alittle flat *side eye*
@@wwhn I think overall season 3 was just uneven somehow. I loved parts of it a lot but sometimes I thought 'What is going on' lol I hope Netflix won't do us wrong as always (they cut the budget on most shows after the 2nd season) I'm waiting the next season!!!! It will be the queer season with Benedict!
Well everyone has a different opinion. In my opinion s 3 was the best.
