After years of chasing, this year marked the end of that for me. It's single barrel picks from whiskey clubs and craft distilleries going forward. In the long run they are a better value and are far more scarce. * Cheers * Judge

I'm a big fan of both but one bottle of each on the shelf is enough for me. I don't really care about trying all the batches and would rather spend on something new.

i thought i was done but then i opened most of mine and now i’m down to two (ec 1:48 c923 and b521) so now i have to get more. these bottles are some of the best values on the market.

Larceny is my favorite wheater. I love the BP because I can get it, unlike Weller, and IMO it's comparable. Best ability is availability.
I am super stoked for the Larceny SiB Barrel Proof.
But yes, much like beer, the best stuff is craft.

Just picked up both EC and Larceny b524 at 67 each. At these price points, I don't mind, especially the EC with the age and proof. Agreed with similarities, but my mind is almost committed to gotta get them when they come out. I don't mind, since they're solid. Can't always be hitter like the EC923 with every batch, but at least they're not inferior bottles. Cheers.

In Texas it’s cheaper to buy the ECBP than the SIB picks $75 vs $99. But I’ll grab one as my others start to empty.

Oh my! I understand the point, but did you say or feel that after C923? And value wise, it’s still great value at $80 for barrel proof at 10 + years. Now, in the dog days of summer, I’m not feeling it and could concede a similar feeling when the last 2 releases have been okay. But I ain’t giving up on the ECPBs just yet. Cheers Judge

I’m a big fan of ECBP. Seems like now all of their offerings are compared to C923 which for them is a blessing and a curse. I have a B524 heading my way, which has gotten some great reviews. For me, for the $, they are still great buys as some of the craft stuff is hard to find here in VA. Bourbon is so palette dictated and ECBP generally fits Milne pretty well. Not as big a fan of the Larceny BP’s but will try them when I see them. Having said that, I only buy either of these at retail prices.

Releases like this i do a couple things. Check to see if i have at least a half bottle. If so i dont worry unless i hear people go crazy like C923 then i go buy one. Now if i am low i will buy the current release. What i am saying is i do not need every new batch as soon as it comes out and dont need 6 opened bottles of ECBP but i dont want to get caught with none open. Hopefully my rambling makes sense

Love both ECBP and Larceny BP, but always wait to see what the general consensus is before buying them now. No FOMO and will skip most batches if it's not special. Will only buy and back up if it's a special batch (C923, etc.). I hear the ECBP B524 is really good, better than most in the last few years... We can still get a steady supply of multiple batches of ECBP for $69.99 (excluding C923) and Larceny BP for $59.99 in my area (not all stores of course, but large independent store always has it in stock).

I'm tired of all these batched products including the Heaven Hill brands, Bookers, Barrell, Maker's Mark wood finishes etc... If I still have the last batch sitting on my shelf I'm not getting the next one. In general I don't buy backup bottles just to have them so why would I keep buying these new batches when I haven't finished the old one? I absolutely agree with the Judge on this one

  • @smikebacts

I loke both of these releases but ultimately my poilicy is that inonly buy a release that really reviews aa extraordinary or I finish a bottle. I tend to keep 2 ECBP expressions and 2 or 3 Larceny BP. In our area they are shelf available and my favorite wheated Friday night pour.

I enjoy them and look forward to the different releases. But sometimes they aren’t hugely different. I really appreciate the great videos and especially the content packed into less than 10 minutes. Some whisky channels have started to put out 20-25 minute videos with about only 5 minutes of substance recently! So thank you!

    🔥 topic today Judge!
I’m with you, how ever I fall for the hunt ever time on the ECB. Always come short finding the C releases tho. Larceny sits on shelf for a while where I’m at.🥃

I prefer the Larceny A124 over the ECBPC923. I’d buy Larceny again, not the ECBP. I’ll stick to my favorite Ryes: Studio Distilling, Driftless Glen DO Cask Strength, Sagamore DO, Pursuit United.

Great video Judge. I have always felt that these companies are obviously blending batches to meet a price point. Some batches are slightly better or worse depending on the person. The barrels blended for ECBP are selected for a reason. They wouldn’t leave money on the table by putting their best barrels into a $80 bottle…those go to the super premium bottles.

  • @gerardstaniszewski8309

Completely disagree with you, Judge. Of course they tast the same, they're the same "whiskey." What do you honestly expect. The fun lies in the difference of the releases. We are discussing whiskey that is about $65 to $75. IMO the Larcney B524, is head and shoulders above the A124. Same profile? Yes! But look at the difference. What do you want? Do you want it to tast like Jack Daniel's? Love you Judge. Keep it up.

They all are good and similar then one will grab your tastebuds and you say wow that’s nice. So because of that I’m always a buyer because my store owner friend lets me have the Larceny BP’s for 44.00 and the ECBP’s for 55.00 so buy and try:) Cheers!

I enjoy ECBP and in general I think it is a great value (at MSRP). I do think that the quality has become more ‘spotty’ so I’m grateful for reviewers that I trust to help guide me toward/away from specific batches. I do appreciate craft distilleries, but finding one that aligns with my taste preferences can be a crap shoot as well.

I agree. I don’t need every batch. We get things later in Buffalo, so I watch reviews first. The 2024 batches haven’t had reviews that made me buy them. You would think that having a channel would force me to get them, but no, it doesn’t. Quick question, are you in the Baltimore area?

I've tried EC C923 and it isn't for me. I really enjoyed Larceny BP C922 and B523. Beyond that I just don't care for any. And HH set the bar way too high for themselves with EC C923.
There are many craft distilleries out there that are putting out much better juice. Nashville Barrel and Copper & Cask are just two off the top of my head.

Imo ecbp was an excellent consistent release and it was 12 years, and it was when I first bought $65 and that was b 520 and I was completely blown away. Since 2020 I've paid as much as 100 I think maybe 120. That was still 12 year juice. I never found c 920 and I won't pay premium price for younger whiskey... Than what the juice originally was.
And you're right store picks are just as good.... Mostly and maybe actually retail

I don’t think they are played out for what a person is getting for the price at least where I live. I get that all them will have some similarities but it’s the subtle nuisances that make each one different. I think part of it is people find one batch they love and then it’s like they expect all the others to taste the same and if not then the others are not any good or played out. I’m glad they are all different otherwise ECBP would be boring.
I still think you get a lot of bang for the buck considering there are a lot of other bourbons on the market that have less flavor, less proof and cost the same or more.
One final thought is that I think people overlook the private barrel store picks of EC. I have one that is 10 years old at 137.5 that I opened the same day as my C923 and I thought it was better. I thought it had a better flavor profile and drank less hot than the C923.

You can’t buy them all; for the bourbon enthusiast w/ an average palate, probably can’t tell much of a difference except for the unique releases like c923. At least the larceny is a barrel proof wheated bourbon where there aren’t many options; but still you can’t get them all. Cheers!

There is a lot of good and interesting whiskey out there, specially with clubs and channels doing really good picks. There is no need to buy a release of the same profile every three months to take a sip leave the bottle almost full and never touch it again. A lot of folks getting farm by this companies

Both are great values in the current market…BUT, there competitive options are growing. For me, I like to try new stuff rather than keep buying the same thing. For instance, Green River Full Proof, James E Pepper have been great for less.

ECPB and ECBP will scale back to 1 per year unless there is one like EC923. SB picks and craft are the way to go for me. Judge what glasses are you using there? Not a normal Glen look interesting.

I love these releases, but they should release 2x year to stay intriguing. I haven’t purchased any of the 2024 releases because I still have plenty of the 2022 & 2023 releases.
Now Bookers, that is soooo played out. Those sit on the shelves now because everyone is over them.

Those bourbons are so readily available that no one cares anymore. It probably has more to do with the consumer’s obsession with hard to finds bottles, than the bourbon.
Personally, I enjoy Larceny a little bit more than Elijah Craig, but everyone has different tastes.

For me, Bourbon is so overprice, its ridiculous. Is there a difference between the fermentation process of bourbon and Scotch? When I buy scotch, and I am willing to pay $60-$80 for a 12-15 years old, I think that I am getting something that a team of individuals have to sit and care for over a decade. We see many bourbons that are 5-6 years selling for close to $80. Rum is another spirit that you can get a good aged bottle for a decent price. Like the latest Wild Turkey Master's Keep Release, 10 yr Rye for almost $300? Come 'on man

Picked up a Green River Single Bbl store pick in South Carolina. To be honest, the first pour was just pretty good. Nothing real special. But, after being open a week or two I tried it again and my goodness, this bottle is amazing. As long as this one lasts I am going to continue to reach for that Green River. Better then ECBP and Larceny, although I like them as well.

Normally I agree with you but elijah craig BP 2020 and 2021 were really good but 2022 and 2023 for ECBP were disappointing other then c923 which was so limited it made Stagg easy to get in comparison. Now Larceny hasnt been good until 2022 and 2023. A122, C922, B523, and c923 were bangers and won a number of awards. Not had 24 but I skip A anyway. Normally your on the ball but not sure what your talking about for this one. I wish Elijah Craig BP was consistent it is anything but just read anyones reviews over the last 5 batches amd Larceny has improved their game in the last two years alot....so confused.
