- In this video I show you how to install casters or wheels to your Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker. For around $20, you can easily add this modification to your WSM and move it with ease around your patio, driveway or garage. Best of all, its easy and will take you less than an hour.
Thanks to your video, installation was a breeze. easiest and essential mod!
Thanks! I bought caster wheels three years back and never got around to it. Seeing you having completed it successfully has motivated me to do the same!
Cool!
Thanks RaleighSmoke. I have been wanting to do wheels for a while and your video shows that its quick and easy! Twenty buck is a great price for wheels. I also like your workbench and your channel.
I appreciate the support! Thanks!
Thanks! We have the same three cookers! 😅😂
Hey Jon! Great Mod for only a few bucks and a little time to do it. It's a wonder why Weber doesn't offer a kit because it is so inconvenient to move.
The best thing I did was put a wheel kit on mine. Now if You could give me a suggestion on a cover that won't let water get into the pit, because mine does
sit out in the weather. :-( Metal On! \m/
I hear ya! I think they’re are some options out there for covers, but nothing I can hang my hat on. Maybe I should inquire.... 🤔
They don't offer it because you could tip a hot grill over on a crack and sue them if you burned yourself. That's why they don't offer the lid hinge, either. You could incorrectly align the lid in between 2 of the legs instead of directly aligned with the one leg and flip the mid section out of the lower bowl when opening it.
Word about the cover... Give it a good dousing with some silicone waterproofing spray that is used on tents. Most big box stores have it in the outdoor dept among the camping gear. Makes a huge difference!
Nice install Jon! Could you have put a bigger caster on the WSM... to help it roll over the cracks better?
I definitely considered 3” casters. You certainly use them and I assume they would fair a bit better over the cracks, but I just felt they looked a bit big. Idk. Plus, the 2” were recommended. 🤷♂️ I appreciate you watching. It’s a good mod either way.
why not use the 3 inch wheels with brakes? I'm thinking of that for easier rolling across decking boards on our back porch. I like he idea of locking it in place while hote.
Yeah, you could definitely do that
Thinking about doing this soon. How well has this modification held up? Any problems with the casters tilting or the legs bending as a result of this mod?
For this 22, no problems at all. However, on one of my 18’s, I had one of the casters mount a bit crooked. It works, but rolls like a drunken sailor. I might fix it w/ a set of 3-wheel casters. I’ve seen that done before and folks have been happy with it. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!!
No problems with the plastic on the wheel melting with the heat ??
Oh, no. Definitely not.
I used a swival caster and the wheels won't turn right...any suggestions?
Is the mounting bolt crooked?
