  • Benin Republic is the birth place of Voodoo in West Africa.
Ouidah is a historical voodoo city in Cotonou, Benin Republic, and it is home to the world's only python temple, which I visit as a tourist. As of the time of recording the above video, we were the only tourists inside the temple, giving us the opportunity to ask a lot of questions about the pythons in OUIDAH, BENIN REPUBLIC
Snakes are feared in most areas of the world, yet they are cherished in Benin. In Benin, especially in Ouidah, royal pythons are revered. The good news is that royal pythons are not poisonous.
I hope you have had a better understanding of our Yoruba tour and the temple itself. If you appreciate watching this and would like to see more of it on our channel, please consider subscribing.

Do you find it difficult to wear the python? I was terrified at first.

Thanks for commenting, Tinny; I appreciate it when you leave a remark on one of my video; visiting there will cost you less than you think, and you will be able to experience the slave trade era, the gate of no return, the python temple, and many other colonial era-related histories.

Its a bit heavy. My mom and elder sis love snake and they both born in the year of snake. Mom would like to go there one day because of she wanted to see if there a sign why does she really like snake especially python. She holds the albino python and that color python, in the temple

You are correct. Do you have any knowledge of the Oyo Empire? The Oyo empire expanded beyond Yoruba territory into Ghana. In my next upload, I'll go through it in greater detail.

A part of it is. That is why the country changed its name from Dahomey to something that could best satisfy all the different ethnic groups in it :)
