I'm so damn glad a streamer with your humorous and chill vibe is taking an interest in such a great game like BAR. If you want to see a 1v1 go the distance, or even get to t2 reliably, you are going to have to play on bigger maps.

In BAR, getting to T2 in 1v1 is about opponent and the map. Some maps are much safer to go T2 on or have the resources for it. Next is opponent. Both opponents have to be experienced and on a relatively equal skill level. With the way teching works, it's too big an investment to work if you can't keep up with your opponent. So most commonly you see T2 in the top tier 1v1 players who are too good to get a decisive advantage in T1.
A good way to start getting familiar with T2 units is doing larger team games. 8v8 will almost always feature T2, and something like 4v4 and up will also see it quite commonly, but those lobbies/matches are harder to find. While how those matches function is too different to get 1v1 strategies from on the broad points, knowing how units work and where they excel at will help you know what to do in 1v1 much faster.

Ayy thats me in the second match! It's NebuchadnezzarII btw, like the roman numeral for 2 :)
I see a lot of people misunderstanding this game somewhat in the comments, APM is a lot less of a deciding factor like it is in SC2. When we played each other I knew you were going ticks, so I just defended using the defenders advantage and out expanded you. You were microing the ticks so much instead of expanding so it was a lot of wasted APM.
This map is very much an incisor map

Awwww yeh! Keep the BAR coming. I don't like the right click set target option, it can making queueing and clearing your target(s) really annoying. I prefer a dedicated keyboard hotkey for it.
I use Y for set target and Y, Y for clear targets.

Mouseclicks per minute- you: 120, him 39. Your mouse travelled twice as far as his did over the course of the game. You did 11 TIMES as many keyboard commands as he did and overall, told the game to do FOUR TIMES AS MANY THINGS as he did. Youre becoming very scary.
Once you built your con turret you started to stall on energy. You had several constructor bots roaming around throwing up LLTs and mexes, but as far as I could see, none were assigned to erect vast columns of wind turbines. If you'd rather keep your energy compact, advanced solars, built near your con turrets can quickly make you energy positive again. Your aim is to be stalled on metal, with any small excess of energy being converted.
Thanks for reading my TED talk.

BAR emphasizes APM far less than other RTS games. The pros comfortably sit around 60 - 80 APM, and the slow start of the game means shorter matches like this one result in an average APM thats lower than whats youd expect. For the first few mins in 1v1 my APM is like 10 cause there just isnt that much to do.
There isnt really a benefit to spamming commands like in SC2, theres a lot of QoL features to make micro possible with less commands issued

@@Nebuchadwicknezzar I agree, but between two equally knowledgeable players, the one who can handle more things efficiently at once will be the winner much of the time.

5:14 This is the moment when we can see that is the end of his aggression. In this moment You should send one constructor toward bottom, one toward left side, one toward left-bottom corner, all with Area Mex order.
You still have problems with not enough energy production, if one constructor can't build enough Wind Turbines then use 2 constructors to build 2 separate clamps of wind Turbines. If it still not enough energy, 3rd constructor should build 3rd clamp of Wind Turbines.
And don't schedule 4 or 6 Wind Turbines at once, schedule 30 or 50 at once for each constructor.

I personally enjoy using right-click to set target, it works nicely for me. What happens is that you still move with right-click, but if you right-click an enemy, the units set that as priority target and will focus it when it comes in range.

I think the way to extend games to t2 and beyond in BAR is via maps. Changing units will change all team games too so maybe 1v1s just need much more defendable maps

Hey mate, if you want to make it to the macro game consistently. You need to get more construction bots earlier to expand your energy and metal economy. Most top tier players will have 5 constructors out before 5 minutes. Also try to establish a good frontline and utilise reclaimers to get that free metal from yours and enemy wreckages.or revive them for free units.

Oh plz man... I've been following your BAR adventure from the start, and seeying you build so many basic solars every time is making me crazy. From any T1 con you can make the advanced solar which is more efficient (costs less metal per gained energy) not to mention the space you save by building those. Do you even know they exist? I've never seen you build one even once :p

Yuss, more BAR content! I agree BAR's Tier 1 lasts too long in 1v1s. Feels like the game is _designed_ for team games with the way it's currently balanced, since many interesting things emerge in team games that don't get a chance to happen in 1v1s (air first, hard eco, naval, etc). As someone who's balanced RTS games (but who isn't very good at BAR at all, so this may be way off), I almost think they need two different sets of balance numbers for 1v1 vs. team games. 1v1 could easily play out way closer to SC2 (which has _fantastic_ tech tempo, supporting all sorts of build variety) with the right changes.

Your early game macro on the first game was pretty good, keeping your commander at home to build wind seems to be working for you. Now you just need to mix in 2-3 energy converters, maybe 1 energy storage. I do think you should go back to spamming ticks though. I dunno why you were so critical of your macro that game. You did start floating a lot of money later, but early on you were on top of it. Huge improvement.
The 2nd game wasn't as good though. Maybe your multitasking isn't as good as you think it is and your micro is distracting you. Or maybe the first game your opponent's aggression actually worked to your advantage by forcing you to keep your commander at home.
Veterancy doesn't usually matter very much, but there are exceptions. Commanders can get a lot of veterancy very quickly from d-gunning. This can make the difference between a commander living and dying.
Sending rez bots behind your attack isn't cheese, it's what you're supposed to do. Most people just can't pull it off because their APM is too low and they can't keep their rez bots alive.
Yeah the zoom just preference. Do whatever makes you comfortable.

BAR has a really good defenders advantage, he wasnt able to get value with his ticks against me (Im his opp in the second game) so he just wasted a lot of APM on me while I was expanding
Basically I knew uthermal was gonna go ticks against me which slows his macro so I just defended him and out macrod.
His tick abuse might work against more inexperienced or unsuspecting players for now, but with good defense you can just ball up some grunts and he wont have an answer.

Your metal is fine, you need to scale the energy where you are building better and better energy sources and reclaiming the worse ones, build energy to metal converters.

Hey man I am not bar pro or anything but I think you need to make wind all the time. If you start overflowing then you buil converters. Stalling on energy is just a waste of metal sitting on the bank and not in the field

Have you played Zero-K? It uses the same engine as BAR but it's more fluid with a flatter tech tree, so there's more options early game and the units are smarter, meaning you don't have to micro so hard. The eco is also streamlined somewhat with an automated metal->enegry conversion. Best of all it's also free to play and on Steam too

An energy storge and a single energy converter go a long ways in stabilizing your eco. If you're a macro god you can probably skip em, but they sure smooth things out.

Maces are great for pushing, but are terrible in defending. Maces winning vs medium tanks, because they are almost 2 x cheaper, 2 maces vs 1 tank almost always wins. When you push with maces this can be really hard to stop. But their movement speed and accuracy means this unit cant do nothing vs grunt/pawn/tick harass. So for defending build other units and maces when you want to push. Also aggressive bot lab closer to enemy is a good option, you can reclaim old bot lat and make another at middle of the map if you want, it costs only energy.

10:35 You have way too many build turrets for your eco (2 would be fine) and you're spamming the least efficient energy creator in the game (t1 solars).
You should focus on spamming wind (this map has good wind, you can see at the top of the screen the wind speed), a few Advanced Solars for evening out the energy curve during low wind speed, and a energy battery for the same reason. Even 1 energy battery helps so much because it lets you D-GUN a lot in critical situations, as well as cloak your commander for a brief time, alongside its ability to even out low windspeed times.
Your early micro is great (coming from starcraft grandmaster it makes sense) but you need to improve your game knowledge and think a bit more about your build before the game.

  • @yang8244
    @yang8244 12 днів тому +1

You play on big open maps then complain there is too much T1.
The bigger and more open the map the better fast cheap units become and the harder it is to defend with turrets.
The harder it is to defend the harder it is to take the time and resources to go t2 without losing.
Wanna get to higher tiers faster, play on smaller or more defensive maps.
