Thanks for the content. I really appreciate it. Dragonlance is what kicked off my fantasy /gaming obsession . These novels helped me get through my childhood and explore my imagination. Keep doing what you do.
Amazing video again. The only Companion to have a father was Laurana. The rest were orphans (except Tas who might as well be due to the nature of Kender) and so I believe Flint was very much a father figure for them.
When Flint died I was 13 years old. It still hurts. I watched this with tear-filled eyes. Awesome job! I can still here him call Tasselhoff a doorknob. (2022)
I really don’t understand my feeling at his death. I read the book when I was 11 and am now 45 so you would think after rereading these books over 30 times that I would get less sad. However I cry the same everytime I came to that part of the trilogy.
Flint's death was pointlessly tragic. He died from a Heart Attack. I know he was old, but honestly, it was an un heroic death for a beloved character. I'm sure many might argue it's merits, but I fail to see why Weis and Hickman would write out a vital character like him...
Excellent tribute to Flint who was such a wonderful character. My only quibble is with the idea that Flint knew Kitiara's message was a trap, since his own inner monologue shows he thought it was possible Kitiara was telling the truth. "Flint, looking around, could see no sign of anybody or anything. Shivering, he huddled in his cloak, feeling apprehension creeping over him. What if Kitiara was telling the truth? What if Tanis was with her? What if he was dying? Angrily, Flint forced himself to stop thinking about that. He almost hoped it was a trap!" -Dragons of Spring Dawning, Book II, Chapter 3 And that residual doubt helps explain why Flint went along with Laurana's decision as it is impossible to believe he wouldn't have taken action to prevent her from going if he was certain it was a trap.
-SPOILER ALERT, lol- in the chronicles, there are two deaths that pull at me harder than the others; while Strum’s death brings emotions due to stoic duty in the face of impending doom, and faces it like a sodding knight (you know!), Flint’s death hits me hard every damn time i read it! it’s foreshadowed, it’s that creeping pestilence called Time! and the ONLY reason i don’t skip the risk of drenching the pages in tears is because Tas does that for us, with Fizban right there to give us comfort…truly excellent writing! thank you for this…
That was a beautiful tribute to Flint. I was 12 when reading the chronicles for the first time. This was the first time a book had brought tears to my eyes. Sturm felt different. This pulled those strings properly...
Their deaths both hit me in "the feels." Even multiple decades later. And you are correct, they are both different. Sturm felt like I was robbed of something that I didn't realized I lost until after I lost it while Flint was so much more personal. Like I lost a family member. I give huge credit to the authors and the people who brought them to life only for us to witness their passing.
I too have read the original Chronicles at least a dozen times, possibly 3 times that much. Flint's death makes me tear up every single time. In the 1000+ fantasy novels I have read, this is the only moment that makes me cry every time I read it. IMO Chronicles and Legends together are the greatest fantasy tale ever told.
Great job as always. I appreciate your overview and insights on one of the most endearing characters in the DL books. His death was one of the high points of the Chronicles trilogy and his continued development was one of the best parts of the Lost Chronicles.
Man, I remember being in study hall in 7th grade reading the chapter where he passed. It was very hard to hold back those tears. I loved that character.
Great job as always Adam. The production value in your videos is awesome. What a great for DL fans that we have someone with your talents putting out great content like this. I thought I had seen every DL piece of art, but I always find something new watching your videos. Flint's death always hit me harder than any other character because it was so relatable maybe? You don't often have friends die in real life fighting a dragon, but Flint's death was very realistic and it felt like losing a grandfather all over again. I'm re-reading the books now and enjoying Dragons of Dwarven Depth where Flint's character is explored in more detail. Keep up the great work!
5:41 i hate how tas was always drawn i seen him completely differently. He always looks like an old famished skeletol type, not an innocent child like halfling
@@DLSaga true , tho I believe his 2e constitution stat was 17 or 18 , if that was the case it should've been below hp bonus and system shock levels ..but I guess healthy ppl have keeled over before from a random heart attack ..had an argument over this in a gaming session wasaay back
It's actually quite reasonable to "hate" aka be predisposed against the enemies of your parents and your people TBQH, especially for people like dorfs. On the contrary it's relatively naive and dangerous to ignore the past behavior of people.
It’s the idea of lumping an entire group with the actions of specific people that I am speaking to. You are right to always consider the individuals past behavior.
@@DLSaga I'm not saying it's fair, honestly seeing your reply now I think we agree that it's a natural and reasonable self preservation mechanism but it's certainly a flawed one, and a hindrance in dealing with outsiders and former foes in an multicultural and multispecies world. IMO it's a very human failing that makes well written characters like Flint more relatable and interesting. Thanks for making these videos btw, I've been digging them and I hope you keep up the good work.
I think you missed something important about Flint. I think most of what he SAID (regarding bigotry and everything else), was only for reaction. He didn't believe almost anything he said. This is evidenced best by his dealings with the Orc King. He never treated him unfairly. Even conceded a great swath of his own kingdom to keep peace even after being attached in his own home. I think his dark rough talk is his version of a sense of humor, and I can relate.
I remember getting all teary when Flint passed . Great memories with these stories.
Yea, nostalgia can hit hard.

@@DLSaga I have become obsessed with the Dragonlance world, the novels and characters.
Didn’t expect a channel dedicated to the books of a series it seemed like only my dad knew about

It’s crazy… i was feeling it writing this episode.
Me too. I loved Flint and Sturm. And when Tas sees Flint again at the end of Summer Day I totally lost it.
Same. Even though I've read the books many times, his death always came as a shock no matter how many I've read it

0:46 You left out Preludes Volume V: Flint the King
Doh! Yep.
Flint was my favorite. He grew so much through his story while keeping that asshole edge that endeared him to us all.
I loved his curmudgeonly ways.
Flint was the mentor/father figure all the lil wipper-snapper companions always needed!
Hah, definitely.
The first time I EVER cried reading a book....when we lost flint 😔
It’s a deserved cry.
this is cooler than anything. Awesome content

Great video! Thank you!
Please pardon my rattle brained kender mouth about laughing during these videos. You have a nice laugh.
Thank you for watching!
Full pardons are extended.
Do you have a video on the battle of Hill home I want to hear about the creeping wedges and that beautiful axe he found again
I don’t. I will eventually get around to that novel.
Too this day the only character I have mourned the lost of
He was a great dwarf!
We are agreed on the subject of Flint Fireforge.
Nice!
My favorite character in Dragonlance.
Thanks for watching!
Flint was an amazing character and very well written
Thank you for sharing his story once more
Cheers
Glad you enjoyed it

It’s all subjective. Thanks for watching!
I love Flint Forgefire and Tasslehoff, they have a love/ hate relationship.
Flint is constantly annoying by the Kender.
Yea, and I really appreciate how he waits for him at Reorx’s forge.
Was Flint exiled by his clan as mentioned in The Doom Brigade, and for what crime? Or are the hill dwarves remembering the story wrong?
I’m actually not entirely sure. I’m sure Dragonlance.fandom.com would have reference to it if it’s true.
Hey all @6:54 what series is that from? Comic book wise?
I believe that is the Dragonlance Saga graphic novels from TSR Inc.
Still have issues with flint dying at 149 with his constitution he should've easily lived to 450
But it was totally explained away by his grandmother passing on a heart problem... right? lol
