Sorry this posted a little late, folks. Ashley is on vacation and I (BenB) was in charge of posting and I thought I did everything right, but I guess not. But better late than never! Also, so sorry for not catching a small editing mistake that cut off a bit of the intro. Ashley will be back next week and all shall be right with the world. ~BenB

Hasn't seen or even heard of Dr. Strangelove?! "Gentleman! You can't fight in here. This is the War Room!" Wow. The innocence is strong in these Budget Nerds. 😂😂

Last week, I had to pay $800 to the IRS, $395 to the CPA, and $1180 for a new mattress...and I had it all in hand because I knew the taxes was coming and had set it aside, and I was able to roll with the punches and pull the mattress money from another category. It felt amazing to be able to pay all that money without incurring any debt. Thanks for all you do!!

Hi Guy's! Love the shout-out on gratitude. I have all my monthly expenses titled Blessings!! Mindset is everything.
I have been using Ynab for years, I got 30 days ahead a year ago and was doing well. I then slipped back into spending money I dont have, and I'm now in a horrible place with credit card debt. But I am hopeful, back on track, because of Ynab. I am able to recognize that I am blessed to be able to afford my bills at this point, and I get another chance to look at all my spending behaviors and that I have a second chance to do things different. I couldn't do it without Ynab and your support through your videos.
I am so grateful, and I am emrassing the journey that, although Im broke and have no other categories funded. My bills are paid!!❤

It's funny I have to keep explaining to my dad how I'm "broke". Then I'll get have an expensive car repair or heating oil fill-up and he'll say something like "that's going to be painful to recover from", but it's not painful because I have more than enough sitting in the relevant category.

It's a warm and fuzzy feeling to be able to tell your spouse that we've got this bill. "Remember dear, we have been putting money in that category and we've got it covered. We can relax." Aaaaahh.

I have an "occasional family visit" category and I really love that I am now able to treat my loved ones who come and visit me where I live across the country. they sometimes come for work reasons and stop by to catch up with me... and it brings me so much joy to just pay for meals and enjoy my time with them without worries. #ynabwins

We went to a horror themed escape room last weekend. Something I'd NEVER spend my money on. But it was to celebrate my Brother-in-Law whom I love dearly - so because I value time spent with family, it was a great use of my money! And we escaped!

Hi Ben, when you know you have to wait for something, take something you see as a treat (for me it's usually a book I've been wanting to read). Use it as time to do something you love, even if you would prefer being somewhere else. It's still time you get to have for yourself. No bad conscience. Just a gifted half hour or hour.

Thank you so much for this episode. I had a home repair for $1000ish this past week and I have a car repair for $6500ish coming up that I am still building the funds for. I realized that paying cash for these two things and doing so one month right after the other is a HUGE change for me. And listening to the podcast made me appreciate how far I’ve come and the stability I have. Instead of being depressed that the money is going out. I really believe 90% of budgeting is mindset and 10% is the action of using an app to push buttons and add data. That’s why I really agree with the shift to the 4 habits (vs rules).

We can't say those expenses are unexpected. I have upcoming yearly expenses that are coming up in March, and I've never been this excited and ready to pay them!!! I know I'm going to lose the hard work I've built up for those categories, but that's what makes it exciting and fun (for me at least)!!!! 🤣🤣 I get to do it all over again and set new rates for those targets!!! Fun, fun, FUN!!! I LOVE IT!!! 💕💕💕💕

A furnace filter cleans the air true, but also keeps dust and debris from dirtying your coils. When those coils get clogged it will shorten the life of your furnace and A/C.

I like the concept of "true expenses" within budgeting or financial planning. It emphasizes the importance of acknowledging and planning for expenses beyond immediate needs, such as future bills, savings goals, or irregular expenses, and cultivating gratitude for the ability to address these expenses proactively.

This is a really great episode. I struggle with spending the money that I have in categories. It's a sort of rigidity that I struggle with. I appreciate this conversation!

I was watching a movie the other day and I am pretty sure that I saw Ben in a conference room scene or someone that had a VERY similar profile to him. If it was him, he may have mentioned this on another video, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I was indeed an extra in a movie recently in a conference room scene. So it was probably me! Some friends of mine made it. :) ~BenB

That’s wild! We need the title for this movie pls
You’re also a dead ringer for my brother in law. I sent a screen cap in the family chat and my sister was like, “huh I thought that was my husband for a second”😂

Having a will with a financial plan as a parent is important. Single persons also need a will and planning if they don't want to leave matters to the State.

Ernie, I’m in the same chapter of Atomic Habits. I’ve always thought about word choices and it really does make a difference. I also agree with you that Habit 2 is my favorite. It gives me piece of mind.

My struggle with ‘surprise’ expenses is that it was hard to save up the money for car maintenance and having that cushion gives a lot of peace of mind. When I have to use it, I fear that I’m not going to be able to replenish those funds.
