FERRY FIASCO: Anger as Ardrossan harbour work STILL not started meaning new ferries CAN'T use it

- AT Holyrood this week MSPs across all parties voiced anger at the lack of work with Ardrossan harbour redevelopment.
The work is needed so the new ferry MV Glen Sannox can use the port, as at the moment the new boat is unable to dock at the harbour as it is too big.
Locals are worried that the nearby harbour Troon, will be permanently used instead.

One would think that Peel Ports would want the service to remain at Ardrossan ! Are the snp led Scottish gov REALLY trying to get the work started , no doubt they would like to own the ports that CMAL uses ! Are the snp hoping that Peel ports will sell off Ardrossan cheap because the Arran service has been lost,,, and then the snp come riding in on their white horse and buy the harbour and re start the service to Arran ! All hail the snp ! ! We also need to look at Peel Ports, they are being asked to re build their harbour, but possibly no guarantee that CMAL will operate from there....again making Peel Ports to sell the harbour. Meanwhile the people that need the ferries are forgotten about while the snp play games.

Epitomised by utter lack of embarrassment at the continuing delays and just 3 SNP MSPs, including the Minister present. Costs so far suggested around £40m but now the figure of £92m is being touted. That's almost the original contract costs to build these white elephants

The Debate is 8 years too late. Even without LNG bunkering, Ardrossan could never take either new ‘Glen’ Ferry,because Calmac/CMAL idiotically designed supersized ships that couldn’t fit the existing berths. Rather than a feasibility study in 2016, they needed to start building an upgrade immediately (it’s a minimum 21 month build) in order for it to be ready for delivery of the Glenn Sannox in 2018. After years of bickering, especially about who is going to pay, the Minister announced a review last year because it was too expensive at £42m. Meanwhile Peel Ports haven’t Invested, resulting in the Irish berth, which could take MV Alfred being decommissioned permanently. At no stage has any transport minister cracked heads together and made things happen at Ardrossan, after all Transport for Scotland is part of the talking heads. Even if Ardrossan is upgraded, local businesses are going to suffer for years when there is absolutely no ferry traffic.

Scrap Ardrossan harbour and build a new public pier at Horse Island. This will reduce the journey time and be more reliable in poor weather. Avoids the hassle of privatising Ardrossan harbour and gets car directly into the A78 without the need to drive right through the town.
