That bound accordion book looks like it would make a really cool CD/record booklet if you glued a sleeve for the disk on the back of the first page. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've bought a few CDs that were packaged like that.
I love all the different suggestions you offer to dress the books up or down! And yes, we need a rubber band bound books tips and tricks tutorial video, too!
Fun fact: Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican Codices were accordion books: The scribes would take either one long sheet of Amate bark paper or deerskin parchment (or several shorter sheets glued together) and fold it accordion style, but they also generally used both sides of the sheet.
My design teacher sent me spiraling into a panic when he told me that he wanted me to make an accordion book. Thanks for convincing me that’s it actually possible!
Great information Karen Kavett ! Thanks for sharing. I'm not a graphic designer or artist but I'm a scrapbooker so I see loads of potential with this type of book! :) Oh, and I would definitely love to see the rubberband binding technique also!
Hi Karen, I loved your tutorial! I was wondering if I could ask why you choose not to use adhesive paper? Is it the price or the quality? And why you choose museum board over illustration board? Thank you!
Hey Karen! Awesome tutorial😃. I love Sea Lemon's bookbinding tutorials. In the "remarkable relationship" infovideo, how did you get the narrator's voice? Was it a program? And I'm also curious about that rubber band bookbinding. Could you do a tutorial on that? Or was it just a normal text block with a rubber band on?
I'm planning to make an accordion book with a cover material similar to the one you used on the Harry Potter book. I'm looking online and don't really see anywhere that I can museum board from within the next few days, do you have any suggestions as to what other kinds of board I can use? Preferably something that I can buy at an art supply store. Thanks!
xnightdreamer I have before bound books. I had usually did it by mixing glue (sometimes school glue but often wood glue) with water, maybe about 50% to 75% water (it is very thin, seeming like water just very slightly greasy/slippery feeling), then brushing it on to the far edge with a small brush (where I want the spine to be) and layering sheets. typically, I could bind each pair of pages, then each pair of pairs, ... and if done well, all the pages would be more-or-less lined up. afterwards, something big/heavy is put on it (like a stack of textbooks) to press it down. when it fully dries, it is is very solid (about like solid wood). another strategy is stacking the pages and trying to paint the glue onto one edge to make a spine, but I have had much less luck with this (the glue-water doesn't penetrate well and the spine is prone to break).
I wish I could have watched this video last year when I had to create a "Accordion Book" all from hand you make it look easy. I still get nightmares about it..
Great video! However, there is a much better and easier way to bind an accordion book. It doesn't require any folding, just tape and paper. I found the folding part to be a bit confusing, honestly.
Thanks for mentioning me Karen Kavett! Great tutorial for an accordion book and you are welcome on the bookbinding turf anytime! ;D
I actually need this for an English project, thank youuuu!
You are the queen of DIY! Love this and appreciate you showing us step-by-step. xo!
For the Love of Organizing Thanks so much for watching!

crop marks do work if you don't slice completely off the paper with an x-acto.
Pretty cool.

How did you make the accordion book with the museum board?
YESSSSSS i needed this rn
Love this video! Please do the rubber bound book :D
What kind of Xacto is that? It looks like a #11 blade but it's at an angle.
Zusie It's just at an angle because sometimes it slips in the handle. It's not any kind of fancy blade.
Book-looking book thing.

this looks so annoying. :/ I can't even print out my lecture slides without getting a headache!
Amanda Brindle A bit annoying, but having a final product to hold and keep forever makes it worth it. (It sounds like I'm talking about a baby, haha)
