Yes, I know it is a clean out and I meant to annotate that it was a clean out and not a vent. I do the same as you and just dump the ash out most times or use a small scoop and shovel if it is inside of a tent, etc. I have seen that video you posted and it is a good video. Thanks for the comments and compliments. :)
My lid was missing on my kettle pot when I opened box, found a lid from an old stainless teapot and it fit perfectly, hence I used your chain idea on that lid... Thanks for that mod..and video.
I just got one myself I took the tubes on the side below the grates cut the brackets off took them to a muffler shop and had them expanded to fit together with the other stove pipes. Changed the hinge and adde the door lock similar to yours. Good vid thanks
Cool stove dude! I’m gonna grab one of these for my ice house! Tap tap, tap tap. Hope your teachers never let you use their pointers when you were school 🤣. Thanks for the review!
Thanks!! IMO I would spend the extra money and get the Camp Chef wood stove. It is a MUCH better stove. I ended up selling this one off and got the Camp Chef and been very happy with it.
Mine did not come with a rear cleanout. I upgraded the chimney to 3". Works beautifully now with excellent draw and barely any smoke when I add wood. I now can also use full dry logs and it does a great job.
TY for the video, I am buying 1 of these soon for my campsite and your review/suggestions helped to convince me it is worth the price. I found 1 on Ebay for $41 it is just the stove no bag or water heater, but $41, no way you could build this for that price with out a decent "metal" shop and lots of good scrap. Cheers, Gorbag
Just got mine today. Used two washers on outer shaft of the door swing-arm and a nut/washer/spring on the inner shaft of the swing-arm to push it out. An EZ fix. This caused a tighter fit on the "L" shaped latch which made the doors' seal better (still a slight paper thin gap). Also i learned from Guns and Gear to add a spring on the swing-arm to keep it extended. I had to open up one end of the spring (sleeve side) to keep it from sliding through the sleeve. Nice vid. Thanks.
Still going good? Hey, you ever think about adding a baffle inside for more efficient burning? I was going to make my own stove, but this is cheap.. But probably baffle, then maybe a side hole for an oil drip system for waste oil. Since I have a waste oil system close for a foundry.
This same stove is currently on sale at WalMart for $69.94, with free shipping. I do like your water jacket, but a big camping "coffee pot" works better and is safer for me.
I really tried to use that hot water heater on the stove, but it is so difficult to attach when the stove is hot that I realized I was better off with just a coffee pot with water in it.
Hi and thanks for the information and just to share with everyone if you decide to strip the paint off to repaint you can use OVEN CLEANER its cheap and you can buy it on sale...
Nice video. I have one and wish somebody would make them in a bigger size. It can't burn all night so you have to get up at least two times to feed it, or it goes out. A stove like this in an 18 inch diameter might be enough, 24 inch would be ideal.
Would this wood stove be any good for a deer blind, mine is 8'×6' and i was thinking about sleeping in it the night before hunts and dont wanna mess with propane tanks and heaters possibly failing in the night. Thanks
Chris Beebe In my opinion you would be better if with one of the Propane Buddy Heaters for deer blinds. I would not want to deal with wood for a deer blind. No matter what you are using make sure you have proper ventilation because of carbonmonoxide.
Guns and Gear Network thanks for the timely response, i have a big buddy heater but want to keep it home for winter emergencies it saved us last winter when it was below zero and the power was out for 2 days. Iv been thinking about making a rocket stove for the blind but this seemed easier, i like heating with free wood and would only be using it nights that i sleep in the blind. Are you happy with the stove still, does it leek much smoke. Again thanks for the reply.
Like I said in the video it has some shortcomings but overall not a bad option. If you have some "know how" you can fix most all the issues. In that small of a space it is going to be brutal hot with this thing. You would not want to put a ton of wood in it. The door can leak some smoke but that can be fixed with fixing the handle like I showed or adding a wood burning door gasket. For the price it would be worth trying.
Guns and Gear Network yeah i think ill give it a try, thanks for your input. Itll be worth having for the price even if i dont use it in the blind. I like guns and gear lol so i subbed. Have a nice day
A nintinol graphite thermal electric generator titanium spark gaped Regenerative heating element to power those stoves would be really nice. No need to burn a lot of biomass just a small amount of biomass to get the nintinol TEG operarting. Straight heat no toxins and it can operate for hours and hours.
I will be honest I sold this one and got the Camp Chef one. The CS one is very nice and much nicer than this one with no real modifications needed. The modification project was fun but their are much better wood stoves out there.
me and my son were the ones that started that stove! it was called the great northern camp stove. we sold them to a lot of surplus stores and we did a lot of mountain man rendezvous.later I fix that door problem by add 1/8'' steel to the door hinge and put a flat gasket around the door and there is a lot simpler way heating the water then what you came up with . they must of not seem that part
+jakepieper1 Good info. I usually heat water a different way but I like the fact that this method is "fixed" on it and can not move. I usually just keep it topped off with water so I have hot water ready at all times when I may need it. Thanks for commenting and let us know.
okay, here's a hint, do not use prestow type log products with a screen, it clogs in 1.5 nights (ask how i know). use the least oily/sappy wood you can.
Iv had this model for a year. Used it a few times. No issues. Im very happy with it.

hey, i just bought a stove and i appreciate your modifications.

For the spark arrestor I use a stainless steel gutter guard that I bought in a six pack off of Amazon.
I just got one myself I took the tubes on the side below the grates cut the brackets off took them to a muffler shop and had them expanded to fit together with the other stove pipes. Changed the hinge and adde the door lock similar to yours. Good vid thanks
I just paid $78.00 CDN on Amazon, can't wait for it to get here... Great vid...
great video, I received one of the for Christmas. I can't wait to put this to use..... good video thanks
BigHickory357 Thanks, enjoy the stove.

where did you find the water heater?
@@JbowlizzleKC I got on Amazon years ago. Saddly it seems to be unavailable at this time.

Thanks!! Glad you liked it and found it helpful.
what is the easiest way to add a damper?
Search my videos and I show how to add one. If you cant find it let me know.

I used charcoal instead of wood and it lasted way longer. I just put a fresh batch of charcoal before I went to bed it was still warm 6 hours later.
I like this stove , want to buy it, but I've seen so many bad reviews on it. Usually about the paint burning off causing fumes,.
I have two of these stoves but haven't used them yet. Paid $99.00 Canadian but with no water kettle can you buy the kettles separately?
dwightp2 yes you can

Great review, I didn’t catch where you got the kettle.. or what to even call it, so I can search it... could you provide a name?thanks for your time
Think I got it off of Ebay but it has been awhile since I bought it. Just fyi I would spend the extra and get the wood stove from Camp Chief.
Could I use this on concrete enclosed porch vented out thru a window and piped out as long as I was careful?
Judy A. Shroads Yes, I would think so.
Guns and Gear Network Thank you

I need to know where to get the piping for the stove elbows Etc
try a muffler shop!
Any ideas for adding a damper to the chimney?
I added a damper to mine. Look in my videos about this stove. Thanks
Where would one find the water pot for this camp stove
Found mine on Ebay.
where is extra stove pie available for it ,and also elbows
Most get a muffler shop to make them.
Dude ..I know it's 5 years later ..but can you tell me where I can get that water kettle?
Check Ebay or Amazon. Think mine came from Ebay.
Don't know if you're still looking, But Major Surplus has them. for the time being anyway.
@@jcb0249 appreciate that thank you:)
For 80€ in France we just get the water boiler.
The stove itself is at 168€ at least........
where can I find a water container like yours?
Ebay, Amazon, online.
Guns and Gear Network gopd
GOT THE NAME OF IT BROTHER
where do u get the water heater thing
brian duchowicz
Ebay
amazon or as G&G said ebay
I think the chimney on that sucks, to small diameter. Im thinking about installing at least a 3" pipe.
I agree the pipe is too small but its functional. I have since upgraded to the Camp Chef stove and it has a bigger pipe.
front door to seal better can you use a viton gasket maker in a tube
how would you make a flu? for this

I wonder if you could you are percussion for the local band. lol
pinkeye00 lol after watching the video I thought the same thing. lol
🤔 I didn’t get a spark arrestor or a bag, off of Amazon
Send it back and go with the Camp Chief one. Much better quality.
There double that now
I ditched it for a Camp Chef one which is MUCH better quality.
You or locking it backwards .
I love the video and information but the constant tapping with the poker 😬
Sorry about that. LOL
Wow one Nice Stove I wish. People would put Phone #s up...
Why , you wanting to call someone? Probably not going to get people posting their phone number on UA-cam. :)
Yukon M1950 is a much better stove, albeit it is also heavy at 35lbs with all accessories
Found the successor to the 1950 Yukon stove without the fuel carbs for $350. Looks like a quality unit.
Space Heater Arctic I believe.
