Tbh, this is the most honest review about the Caribbean medical school I've heard about. And I'm really happy to hear this and of course, I appreciate your efforts to make out time to give this educating review. Thank you, sir. 👍👍🙏🇳🇬🇳🇬
I must say this is one of the few direct and honest advice on Caribbean medical school vlogs I have seen to date. Too many Caribbean medical school students, want to talk about the ocean and how it is to be on a "vacation" I had seen so many complaints from former Caribbean medical students about how they weed you out. Medical school no matter were you go is not meant to be easy. If you did not take the time to prepare yourself academically before going to medical school mentally, emotionally, intellectually and physically for the intellectual demand of the curriculum. Than failure is your fault not the institution. Just because you go to medical school in the Caribbean does not mean you going to have MD attach to your name that easily. If you are not ready for the intellectual tenacity the medical school curriculum demand, than do not go to medical school be a gym teacher.
Incorrect - I know a friend who got his MD through Caribbean and it was not hard at all. First of all, admission requirements are hardly required, secondly, these types of schools go easy because they don’t want to give you stress while learning. Learning and hands on experience stress free is proven to result in higher success because your relaxed. I know many individuals who got the experience from there and apply it here
@@dilshadrandhawa3921 LOL. I have 5 family members who are carribean MDs. It is not a cake walk. Maybe your friend is a sevant and can easily memorize. But to say they are easy is absolutely absurd. Considering the attrition rates of the schools especially.
Maybe it's because I'm an "older", non-traditional student with a great GPA (but less than stellar MCAT) whose already graduated with a degree in the healthcare field, but this advice was pretty much a no-brainer. Who spends thousands of dollars on an education (to be a doctor, no less) to want to be a less than average student/professional? (That's one very expensive and stressful "vacation" if you put diversions before studies). There are no shortcuts in life, and you only get what what put in. Medicine is a serving profession, give it your all so that you can serve others to the best of your ability. I'm looking forward to learning medicine in an atmosphere that is less "advanced" than the one that I currently live in, and serving communities that live in what may feel like a world away (I hope it feels like I'm on an extended missionary trip!). I'm excited about the opportunity, and the adventure, as I transition both spatially and intellectually. My one take-away from this video, though, was a sense of relief to hear that the stigma isn't as bad as some would have you believe. Thanks for that!
@@lelabb4110 Yes, I did! I started in January 2020. I absolutely loved my time studying on the island. The school evacuated the majority of us in March due to Covid-19, and it's been online med school since then (which has it's share of pros & cons). I'm back in the US for the time being, but I can't wait to go back.
Thank you. Honestly I feel my time and money is better spent pursing a mid level provider program. At least after 2 years I can make some money and not have to be in a high stress environment for 4 years straight. Not saying PA/NP programs aren’t stressful though.
Very true. I don’t want to stressful YEARS of doing MD. And I don’t want it bad enough ..took me time to realize that but I am applying to NP programs.
Medical schools sounds like hell, no matter where you go. Fast pace, major stress, little time for anything else, no social life, long hours without sleep, tons of debt, suicide ... You really have to love it to succeed......Isn't medicine overrated?
Med school no matter where you go is toxic. I was a pre/med major in undergrad and I was pretty much an average student. I realized my academic resume wouldn’t be competitive for many med schools. So after I graduated, I went to a technical school and got my degree in respiratory. Got a job right away and ever since covid, I’ve been doing travel contracts and making more money than PAs and some doctors.
I’m not a medical school student but the weeding out process I typical in all health/science based degree programs. I’m an SLP and they weeded out a lot of students in our 1st year of core studies, especially that first semester. A lot of students switch to Psychology and Teaching. I’m interested in being a Physician, my grad school gpa was a 3.9 but I don’t think I can handle the stress of med school. Maybe I’ll just take the MCAT to see how I do and decide from there. Side note: I’m of Grenadian heritage and would love to go to SGU.
I hate to say this guys but Im speaking on my experience in carrib med school. I didnt go to one of the top 4. tuition at my school is under 10k a semester. Its not always smarts that will get you high scores cause believe me, the schools on my island, someone has a copy of the exams somehow and you have to befriend a friend of a friend of these exam holders. it sucks when grading is based on a curve and some students are scoring 90-100 just by having exams in their possession and your ass worked hard for that 80. The way some of these schools are set up is disappointing. I barely made it out
You were talking about these schools weeding students out... will the school ever sabotage your score to weed you out? Have you ever heard of anything like this?
Your score is your score, no one will ever sabotage it. The level of difficulty of questions would be higher and/or the minimum pass mark may be elevated.
N.R. Lombardi You can't look at tuition alone. That paints a very misleading picture. Cost of living and transportation to/fro those schools is astronomical. Most students have to take out 400k plus in loans to cover their tuition and cost of living and that's before the massive interest rates kick in. To further complicate the situation, most of these students who match are matching into lower paying specialities - FM, IM, peds, - which makes the financial strain of such enormous loans worse.
+Eric Petres. OP stated American medical schools cost so much. You replied with, I quote you "Caribbean schools are the most expensive out there." Which is incorrect. Than you replied back saying you can't look at tuition alone to make yourself feel and look better, lol. Of course you can't look at tuition alone and the're other factors like cost of transportation, miscellaneous fees, etc... However, at the end of the day it doesn't matter how much debt you have because your a practising medical doctor. You have the ultimate privilege like no other and the average primary care physician makes 270k. It will take you 2-4 years if you know how to properly budget your finances and live below your means to pay off your debt. Ever heard of Dave Ramsey? Anyways, you made an initial comment that was uneducated and I just told you the facts.
Don't forget you wont get into: Ortho, Optho, Plastics, Derm, Neurosurg (these top 5 you WILL NOT get into--Maybe plastics you could but.. ) Just b/c you're an IMG Idc If you crush every single thing and are top 2% of all the steps and your class. This is real life. So If this is what you want in life look elsewhere. If you want to do other things, it's totally feasible. No Lie SGU is way harder than US school b/c it's more time consuming. You have less time to study overall. It's really annoying. And they don't care if you fail :) It's just the way it is.
Hey bro, I appreciate you making this video. I want to get into Ross or st George but my GPA is 2.7 . Do I have a chance at those school or can I at least go somewhere?
Instead of wasting $4000000, go to an Indian or Pakistani Medical school and earn your doctor degree in less than $50000. You can go directly from high school to medical school in those countries, save four years of college education and come back and apply for residency in the US. Those Indian and Pakistani schools do not market. That is the reason you do not see them on media. Over 95% of Indian and Pakistani doctors in the US are from those schools and they do not have any four years college degree. BE SMART DO NOT BECOME DUM

Hey I am an Indian medical aspirant and I want to come to carribean medical schools for my Medical studies. There is one particular caribbean medical school, Spartan health & Science university in st. Lucia which is getting crazy promoted in my country by a lot of admission agents. I heard many of their grads are actually doing good and working as a physician in many states of the US. Is this university legitimately good for my prospects of my future as a doctor in US? I am confused and sceptic that I might be fooled by these admission agents, so I might ask it from an actual expert. Will appreciate your help and response 🙂
