- I play a Magic: the Gathering Online Legacy league with Skorpekh Synthesizer, a new deck in the style of 8 Cast that takes advantage of Skorpekh Lord, Simulacrum Synthesizer, and Sicarian Infiltrator from the Warhammer 40K and Outlaws of Thunder Junction sets. This Legacy artifact deck seeks to make lots of Urza's Saga tokens and easily win games with large artifact creatures; this 5-0 / trophy / undefeated run shows off the power of this deck.

Congrats on the creator account. I continue to be impressed with how Daybreak games has handled MTGO. A lot of people called the move a sign that MTGO was in a death spiral, but I really think they've been doing great.
I guess, in hindsight, we shouldn't be surprised that handing off MTGO to any other company resulted in more generosity.
Yeah giving it to a separate company that actually cares about making a good, profitable platform that people will want to use turns out to be much better than wotc who are basically drowning in money and have little incentive to put their attention towards modo
@@servantofcygnus I mean daybreak has kept everquest alive and that was released in 1999 so I'm not surprised they're doing decently well for MTGO.
Please implement stickers. Having Name Sticker Goblin be different online versus in paper is just embarrassing.
I was gonna say with a legacy player if you said wotc creator program I'd be like uhhhh. But DB is cool. They are in a better position to profit off legacy.
Congrats on the creator account! I'm really impressed with daybreak games adding that.
In round 4 game 3, the opponent punted. Their uzra construct has 8 power and Manifold Key can make it unblockable.
This except I think Thraben punted first and was lucky his opponent also did
@markcargill1304 true, but that happens to players more often then they want to think
Round 4 both players forgot about manifold key making creatures unblockable 😂
It was so hard as a Karnforge player haha, they had the W at 45:00
I was screaming at my screen lmao
“I am not stable”.
Same. Same.
Que the day 9 quote.
"IM GONNA SUMMON A LARGER AND LARGER MAN"
Buddy, you were so close to spelling "cue" correctly. Perhaps even "queue". You made a double oopsie, probably unintentionally 😂
@@polyjackets8659i’m pretty sure it’s spelled “kyoo”
@@polyjackets8659 type a commenter spotted.
Thank you so much for not spoiling the result in the title. I get that having "undefeated" and "5-0" drives the algorithm substantially and I wouldn't expect you to waive doing it completely, but simply having singular trophy runs unspoiled (like this one) makes it so that *every* following video has the potential to be 5 - 0.
So this one video has unspoiled all following non-trophy runs you'll upload. Again, thank you!
*looks at trophy in thumbnail with the giant word "undefeated" and sweats*
@@ThrabenUniversity Yeah but it's not in the title, they probably don't pay much attention to the thumbnail and just recognize the style then look at the title to see what the video is about
(source: I do the same thing :D )
I'm glad I'm not alone in spite-attacking into One Ring
It is the way
Fun as old as Fog
Wow, this deck seems loads of fun! Absolutely enamoured with it! It's so elegant and simple but quite effective.
@ 44:30 I'm shocked opponent didn't just make a construct unblockable to put you on a 1 turn clock, then they missed it again next turn when it was actual lethal.
We take those.
A the real best card of OTJ
Edit: I am surprised that you didn't jam Akal Pakal into the deck ( I know it not his brew but it usually don't stop him)
45:10 am I missing something? Didn't they have lethal with manifold key
My thoughts exactly.
yeah make construct unblockable and kill... ???
Definitely dodged a bullet there.
Most people forget it does more than untap a thing.
Also missed the possible pithing needle on it as well (not sure if the mana was available, but the conversation about that wasnt even had).
Ward feels awfully good in a 1 for 1 spot removal meta. I feel like trimming down on infiltrator and swapping the cradle for a city of traitors would do this list wonders.
Round 3 countering the unearth card on 3 life was hilarious 😂 poor opponent
Call an ambulance...BUT NOT FOR ME!
45:11 could opp not have activated manifold key to make the karnstruct unblockable and swing in for lethal?
I thought the same too
Who else can say they have (an account with) a 100% trophy rate? Nice job!
Yo Patchy. I heard you like ward. So I warded your ward so that you can ward when you ward
I'm happy to see Skorpekh do work! I built a Canadian Highlander Mardu artifact deck with it in mind. It is a HOUSE.
Hope everyone is having a great day!
I am going to try this in paper and test some Clown Cars in the flex slots. It's easy to trigger Synthesizer with it and can potentially be multi artifacts to pump up constructs, or go wide with Skorpekh Lord. Maybe 1 or 2 in place of some Infiltrators
The MTG translation of the Skorpekh's reanimation protocols pleased me.
Not sure if you have checked the Modern Horizon 3 leaks. Cannot wait to see your reactions on them when they get officially spoiled!
That deck seems to be so good you don't even need a sideboard :D
What we learned this league is Lavaspur boots are cracked.
super cool deck!
Simulacrum trying its hardest to win over Phil
Squad Goals.
4:46 what were you drinking? It looks good and I'm looking for recipes to try with the blender I just bought
Milk (maybe a cup or so), vanilla yogurt (3 spoons), a banana, a little ice, matcha powder (you don't need much), and then a touch of either honey or sugar to sweeten.
@@ThrabenUniversity Rad, thanks!
To even think Simulacrum Synthesizer is a bad card is crazy, specially in formats you have affinity creatures, can't imagine how you doubted it haha! Nice run anyways, fun deck to watch
I still doubt it.
@@ThrabenUniversity fair enough. But i really hope it keep bringing good results, i love affinity decks
Is palanthir a good fit? High cmc cards in deck, triggers the synthesizer
I think it's reasonable to try, but I bet it's too slow.
In a world with kappa cannoneer and nettlecyst, the frogmite etc is sketch to me. Thr infiltrators are gas tho.
you know a deck is good when it's seriously running frogmite.
I wanna see this deck again without the french vanilla affinity creatures, but with metalworker and foundry inspector
Metalworker is probably not Legacy viable any longer; it's just slow. I like Foundry Inspector much more in Vintage where it is more commonly a turn one play off a single land.
I know in my heart of hearts that replacing [Frogmite] with [Kappa Cannoneer] probably messes with the curve in a way that isn't great, but it just feels so JUICY as an extra force pitch(though I still don't know if 13 is enough for it to be maindeckable 😥)
Casting [Frogmite] also just... doesn't feel legacy power level anymore? It's at BEST a construct token and a bear for 0, but [Kappa Cannoneer] is regularly copies 5-8 of [Patchwork Automaton], even without Construct the Beansta- I mean [Simulacrum Synthesizer].
(To be clear: Rikimaru is OBVIOUSLY a better deck builder and pilot than I, and I'm under no delusions that my choices are "correct". I just wanna see the big turtle)
Frogmite isn't a good card by Legacy standards. Synthesizer *might* push it over the edge of being playable, but even then I'm skeptical.
Looks like it’s time for me to be a mtg streamer now lol.
Izzet a challenger ?
45:15 aren't you just dead to your opponents manifold key giving the construct unblockable? Lucky that neither player saw it i guess xD
No Kappa hurts my heart
Are you a chill believer now?
We got a little lucky drawing it at the perfect time.
never seen you so critical of a trophy deck lol
Part of evaluating a deck based on a limited number of games is trying to extrapolate based on the feel. The deck is powerful, but I don't think everything is figured out about the shell yet.
Ad Mech!
at least my boys are competent somewhere 😢
Shows the power level of cards when this list doesnt want or care about blastoise.
I think the kappa might have been better than some of the affinity creatures, and would increase blue-count for force of will too.
@@Eagle0600 I just wonder if there is enough 0 cost artifacts to be reliable for kappa.
@@MackNJacishopper They don't all need to be zero-cost; a synthesizer, a couple of zero-drops, maybe an urza's saga token, can all help pay for it, and then every artifact drop grows it and makes it unblockable; even the synthesiser tokens will add additional +1/+1 counters.
@@Eagle0600 Correct, but if you are tapping creatures to pay for Kappa, its just such a huge tempo hit.
I have been playing my own affinity skorpekh lord deck in paper for almost a year. It's fun to play. I am playing ornithopters, memnites, and a ginger brute. Master of Etherium is what you play instead of those bad legacy cards. But I have not tested synthesizer. Since my build is aggro, synthesizer is probably not good for me. I have thought about playing 1 copy. I think the deck you tested won the challenge because people left their artifact hate at home. That being said, the deck is still great and is probably as good as traditional 8 cast
I think it's very dismissive to assume that this pilot won their event because people left their artifact hate at home rather than based on their play ability and good deckbuilding. I also imagine that if I did a search on "Master of Etherium" in Legacy tournament results, it would have zero or very close to zero results in the past year.
Dang. Why you gotta roast my boy Master of Ethrium? I know it's not a played legacy card 😭 Knowing your deck and tight play is needed, especially across so many games. I thought that was a given. I wasn't trying to dismiss good playing. Most people in the top 8 of a challenge play great. Master of Etherium is probably better in my aggro version, but I would still try 2 in this deck instead of a couple Frogmites. The new lava boots are also great with Master. Basically a better construct that could have haste. Of course I could be wrong, but this is why we brew
I think you’re right to say this isn’t a great card because the worst it does is 3 mana scry 2 which isn’t great, and what really made it shine was probably a lack of artifact removal that would ensure it only did the worst it could. Obviously if this thing gets destroyed immediately it’ll never create the construct tokens, so it doesn’t matter that you run a bunch of 3 mana artifacts or that it can trigger other copies of itself. But if the decks it matched up against didn’t prepare enough artifact removal to shut it down ASAP then it’s gonna start taking off…
All these decks should be playing halo hopper over frog mite
Absolutely not. Frogmite is frequently free. Halo Hopper is only free if you aren't attacking with your creatures AND you have multiple creatures that can pay for it.
This honestly feels like it's trying to be an aggro deck, but is actually a bad combo deck. Like, Synthesizer + Lord + Sojourner's probably wins next turn, yes. But those are all relatively expensive cards, don't win immediately, and might not actually win when they're supposed to either. That's why you get the wins off aggro hands but don't have time for Synthesizer most of the time. I've brewed similar decks before, where there's a combo *in* the deck but it usually wins before I get that to happen or doesn't win at all, and if I manage to pull off the combo, I was already winning.
It feels to me like the Synthesizer is clearly "plan B" in terms of speed.
@@ThrabenUniversity Huh, weird. That's not a good plan B. If it's a plan at all, it should be plan A, because of how extensive the deckbuilding requirements are.
So 1 thing about the conclusion I think that was missed is this actually attacks on a different axis than 8-cast. 8-cast relies heavily on cheap artifacts it can recur with emry that have activated abilities. This is actually a negative for 8-cast since it gives 2 very powerful hate cards a lot of text vs them that basically are blanks vs this deck. Meltdown & Null Rod. Oh you put null rod into play? Well here is 2 more free constructs that just need to turn sideways to win. Oh you used meltdown? Lol your a tempo deck you only have 3 mana. My affinity creatures stay alive and you are still taking 6+ damage next turn, also it's a sorcery so lol 15 dmg constructs you literally can't meltdown. Blanking 2/3 of the most popular artifact hate cards and forcing people to have to choose artifact hate that doesn't overlap with their combo matchups like null rod can let the deck run over people trying to hedge their artifact hate vs multiple strategies rather than bringing in big haymakers like Kataki, Energy Flux, etc because those do nothing vs combo.
Meltdown does still clear the tokens, but costing 6+ to clear the affinity creatures is notable
@@Paranundrox Not if you EOT the construct into another construct + lavaspur. 8-cast can do that also, but meltdown is a sorcery. They can only do it after you swung for 15+ which likely puts them a tickle from death.
Creator account into trophy equals rigged
this deck is stupid lol
