Riding Every Single Axis Spitfire Foil

  • I've spent the last few months trying to collate some footage on each size axis spitfire foil
    I pretty much got onto all of them multiple times.
    Most of my good footage is on the 900 and the 1100 because they're the two pre production models I had for months.
    It's hard to discuss foils without videos dragging on a bit so rather than use this edit to do that I'll be discussing the wings in depth on my new Podcast Called "Another Foiling Podcast" with Josh Lean.
    Let other viewers know what wing you've tried or would like to try and get involved - get your hands on a demo.
    I am a huge fan of these foils and wouldn't be riding them so much if I wasn't. One of the downsides of being an Axis team rider is people stop trusting you or they doubt that you're completely honest. I strive to remain in my own lane and remain honest in my feedback.
    Hope you enjoy :)

    Hi Dave. Living in Bali. 2-4ft green water takes offs. Old foils PNG910 and HPS930, black ultrashort fuse 375p stab, 820 HM mast. New (4 months) 900 Spitty same combo. New 840 Spitty for bigger days. Best front foil IMO as I have tried virtually all the other Axis foils. Not so much into pumping and linking yet. Surfed for 40 years, foiling now for 1 years. 55yo, 94kgs. Gonna get the 1030 or 1100 spitty for some pumping practise. Frothing

    Awesome, timely video. Being 95kg and on Axis myself- your reviews are freaking invaluable and hard to come by in a sea of 80kg riders. Really appreciate you putting these out.
    I just got the 900 last week and have had it out w/ the wing and am absolutely loving it. Can't wait to prone it.
    I just began my DW struggle this week on a 8' 21" 111L Barracuda. I flat water paddled it to see if I could stand on it- went fine. Know open ocean will be a challenge. Today I winged on it w/ a 1300 I just picked up to try to figure out the rig. Up in a whisper of wind w/ a 4m wing, flagged out... glide for days on knee high wind swell, but good gawd I freaking haaaated the brutal turning. Like a runaway freight train. I dunno about trying to DW that thing... hoping... what are your thoughts on 1100SF for learning DW?

    If you could only have one HiMod carbon mast, and wanted to do several disiplines, like winging, wave riding, jumping, pumping and downwinding,
    would you choose the 90cm or the 82cm? Btw. isnt the 60 advanced fuse called Crazy short, or have I mixed up something?

    That was a very good job pumping the 780 I am struggling to pump it for any meaningful period of time at 85 kg. The 900 I love because it's easy to pump I don't understand why you also like the 1030 when the 900 is already easy to pump. Is the 1030 for very small days, where the wave isnt strong enough to pop up on the 900?

  • @paulhankinson4672
    @paulhankinson4672 10 місяців тому

    Another great video.. Just have a couple of questions re 1030 vs. 1100. As you went up in sizes the carve and speed scores understandably went down, but between the 1030 and 1100 there was no difference in carve score and the 1100 scored better in speed. What would be the reason for this? Not trying to be nit picky - just trying to understand as I'm very new to all of this. Cheers.

I've got about 120 hours on the water the past half year. You know I don’t ‘have’ to make these videos. Axis doesn’t ask me to nor do they expect me to. I don’t make any money and I give back most of the wings after using them. I make these of my volition to “try” and be helpful especially for heavier riders. This is months of work and filming to try and be helpful. But apparently it’s all useless because it’s the wrong fuse. Can’t win sometimes.

    • @jon_mann
      @jon_mann 11 місяців тому +3

      I'd probably look past the fuse. It's personal preference as to what fuse each rider likes. The primary factor in how a foil performs is the front wing anyways. The rest is tuning on feel. I'm an adv ultrashort guy. The SF goes great with it.
      It's easy to over think, best to try. I think Dave has done a great job at giving an insight into the full range.
